[Zappa-List] Re: 40th anniversary of Zappa's albums
Lumpy Gravy and the Capitol Lumpy Gravy clock in at around 59 minutes, and the 2 mixes of Money at 67 minutes. So why the third CD for Lumpy Money? It would be nice if the third CD contained the 1980s mixes of Lumpy and Money with bass and drum overdubs (so far there is no solid evidence that an entire Lumpy exists with the 1980s overdubs, tho). That would be better than three foreshortened CDs. I don't think you'll need to worry about that. The press release clearly states that The project is devoted to various mixes, outtakes materials dating from the original sessions time period for both recordings. So yes, there will be outtakes and other related stuff recorded around the same time, just like on the MOFO-set. The Lumpy Money package will feature two separate mixes of each album Bri: Lumpy Gravy and the Capitol Lumpy Gravy clock in at around 59 minutes, and the 2 mixes of Money at 67 minutes. That would be better than three foreshortened CDs. So in this particular case we have to be more about the process than the outtakes. You're going to be listening to how Frank worked, all the little developments of these pieces as opposed to just an outtake or another performance of that particular piece. You're going to hear how he got there from here. a sister project will be released shortly after Lumpy Money that will contain more music from those sessions. Bri: I assume the sister project will be outtakes or other performances then, seeing as how there won't be any on Lumpy Money? Perhaps an expanded Mothermania? The Money Demos? The Zappa Family Trust will kick off a comprehensive campaign to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the late Frank Zappa's albums next month. Two words: Wowie Zowie! Re: [Zappa-List] Re: 40th anniversary of Zappa's albums
Yeah, I thought they skipped one, which you'd hardly expect given the ZFT penchant for squeezing every cent out of us by issuing two versions of every release each with exclusive material. Just imagine the marketing potential of two different Lather 40th anniversary boxes! This is great news! But what happened to the 40th anniversary of Absolutely Free? That should come out before these.. Apparently there's no - or not much - extra material left from the Absolutely Free sessions. We should remember that this album was done relatively quick and cheap, after the double album extravaganza of Freak Out. I would still welcome a remastered CD edition with both mono and stereo versions though... best wishes, Marco Kalnenek http://www.weirdomusic.com Weirdomusic.com PO Box 26 6400 AA Heerlen The Netherlands [EMAIL PROTECTED] For further Z-related fun, please visit http://www.thebignote.com or http://www.killuglyradio.com , thank you.Yahoo! I've been reading this comment in the various articles online and find it kind of 'thin' to believe that those 2 were his ultimate masterworks. Knowing the whole Conceptual Continuity theme from FZ's entire body of work, for me it's all one big giant masterwork with some moments being more masterful than others. Lather (Greggary Peccary), Roxy Elsewhere, Absolutely Free belongs in the trilogy of Lumpy Money for my...money. Uncle Meat, Waka Jawaka/Grand Wazoo, Overnite/Apostrophe, One Size, Jazz From Hell, all the 88 stuff (Broadway, Jazz Noise, Best Band), Yellow Shark, etcall masterworks. The modern day version of We're Only In It being Tinseltown/You Are What You Is. Anyway, I'm just blabbin'.
