I can't tell you. I'm on Gnome 3 and each action of zim-clip (clips

Nomnex, do you perhaps run zim with the --standalone option
 enabled ?

If so that will cause each call to start a new process. Otherwise zim
should simply connect to the existing process to execute requests.

no, I don't. I wonder if another XFCE user experienced the same thing?
As long as I start Zim using the zim-clip, all the notebooks I open
use a unique tray icon.

But, if I open a Zim notebook first, and then use the Zim-clip addon; it
creates another instance of the tray icon. I can left click (to see all
the open notebooks)/right click (to open another notebook) on the
zim-clip tray icon (the second one), but I can't left/right click on the
zim tray icon (the first instance) anymore.

What I usually do, is to close the first tray icon.

Rui doesn't see that on Gnome 3. It's a minor annoyance, and I don't
know if it is related to the Xfce panel or a configuration?

[Zim-wiki] automatic styling nightmare

2012-06-18 Thread nomnex
I don't want to be rude, but bullet list and numbered list
auto-formatting in Zim, completely screw my notes for some times. I hate
these kind of automatic kitchen list styling in a word
processor, unless I can disable them, and define my own custom list
styles.

How can I disable both of them? Eventually could these styling be made
optional (e.g. in the preferences).

I need to write procedure notes with number and bullets

1. do this

* include object 1.a
* include object 1.b

* include object 2.a
* include object 2.b

2. then do that

3. if it fail, then to that

There are empty lines between the numbered items there are bullet
items in between. Manual formatting is fine. When I force the bullet
list and number list feature of Zim the page is all mixed up on refresh.

I don't want to use verbatim text.

Thank you,
nomnex

Oh, I got it, I have to remove the formatting of the text first (Ctrl

The new redesigned Zim icon looks already good on the Website
launchpad page. Congratulation!

Keep in mind that you can change the visual style of the verbatim
blocks quite easily. E.g. if you don't like the monospace font you can
set any other font for this style.

And what about a menu Font type and Font size for Verbatim text?
Wouldn't better than toggling on/off the wiki parsing?

If I recall, there is already a bug report about font selection for a
page or a notebook? It could be merged.

I am extrapolating, but if we can determine that most of the Zim users
use Zim to write code snippets, then syntax highlighting (see comment
about cherrytree, in the mailing list archive) would be a nice feature,
if it can be implemented.

I am not sure if some user feedback along the list is of any use to
Jaap? I use Zim mainly for learning HTML/XML/JS and soon PHP (my notes).

I think we need further discussion how and when to allow wiki syntax
and when to assume verbatim text.

I would like to add to the discussion (don't read me in the strict
sense, because my English is somewhat limited).

https://bugs.launchpad.net/zim/+bug/297932
https://bugs.launchpad.net/zim/+bug/586296
https://bugs.launchpad.net/zim/+bug/589525

These bugs report some problems--possibly related--of Zim parsing text
formatting incorrectly. It is my feeling that priority should be given
to achieve the same level of usability provided by any other standard
wiki software, when it comes to text formatting:

- there should not be an empty return line when I tabulate the text
(Normal text)
- there should not be two empty return lines when I tabulate the text
(Verbatim text)
- there should not be difference of tab spacing between verbatim and
Normal text
- Verbatim text should not add an empty extraneous line to block
verbatim text
- All in all, any formatting applied should be consistent.

Zim has already many net features, But my main purpose using a wiki is
taking notes--not kitchen linear notes, then I would use Gnote--using
Tabs and different formatting. Zim has currently some bugs preventing
me to take good looking notes.

There is also the table feature. it should be implemented, in a way or
another, in a future release. I currently need to take a print screen
anytime I come across a table in a document I am summarizing using Zim.

So, yes I like Zim has become my central application linking my notes,
lists, thoughts, correspondance, homeworks, etc. But I'd like Zim to be
as reliable and performant as any other Wiki software in term of text
formatting.

Hi,
The page says it supports simple text tables.
Have you tried it - how does it compare to Zim?
Not sure if I am found of the apples though?
