Either Brother Jon is trying to make me paranoid, or there are a LOT of Zion posts
that haven't made their way to my laptop. WHAT discussion about chocolate???

That IS a nice thought (even for a diabetic). And, nope, I didn't get that post. And
it is strange how far off-topic we got. Who knows where it will lead this time?

(Does anyone else have this problem -- beginning sentences with conjunctions? I never
had this habit until after studying the Book of Mormon.)

This new baby is my first grandchild. She is the firstborn of my second
daughter, Rebekah. And her name is Julia Charlotte Haskell. She was born
September 5th at 1:09 AM at the weight of 7 lbs. 3 ounces. And she was 21
inches long. Both she and her mother are doing well after a rough start
when she seemed to have trouble learning how to nurse. Her weight is back
up to almost where it is supposed to be for a baby 22 days old. Sorry I
didn't include more details, but the truth is, I have a hard time
remembering that sort of thing. Esperanza gets after me all the time for
not giving the details. Thank you for your congratulations.

I do not have the patience of Job - I don't even have an M.D.! (referencing
a minor typo below).

But, no, we here in the Piedmont (central NC) only got about 50 mph winds -
a few trees down and power out for less than an hour at most. And besides,
I was in Colorado for the week, so my wife and family had to deal with it
without me. Luckily, no problems, and my flight came in the next day with
no problems (in fact, we were even a bit early).

Thanks for asking.

 No, what is it? (sucralose)

Sucralose is the trade name for the stereoisomer of normal sucrose (table
sugar). It tastes the same as regular sugar, but is not processed by the
body. Your taste buds can't tell the difference (but perhaps your
pocketbook can!).

If I remember my organic chemistry correctly, table sugar is R-sucrose and
Sucralose is L-sucrose.

So, you see, diabetics can partake of the handy one-box-holds-all chocolate
diet!

Re: [ZION] Thought for the day

2003-09-22 Thread hkpage
Stacy,

My husband is diabetic also, and he buys the candies with sucralose all the
time. There are some made by Russell Stover, Cadbury's Turtles, and now
I'm seeing some done by Reese's (is that Hershey's?). I've seen them at
Walmart, Target Kroger, and I'm sure they are carried at other stores, as
well. My husband does say that they aren't the best for diabetics, but if
you're really craving the taste of chocolate, they are good to have on
hand. Also, the box does warn against eating too many at a time. Because
the body doesn't process the sucralose, I imagine it causes plumbing
problems. My husband might eat one every couple of days. I've tried them
and they aren't bad at all. My favorites are the coconut chocolate
concoctions by Russell Stover's.

Re: [ZION] Thought for the day

2003-09-22 Thread Jon Spencer
Sucralose is sold under the brand name Splenda and is available next to
Equal in grocery stores. It is a one teaspoon for one teaspoon substitute
for table sugar. Note, however, that it is somewhat pricey. Some companies
have started to use it in products. For example, Diet Rite drinks are now
made with sucralose. More companies will gradually start to use this
product as more people complain of the side effects of NutraSweet.
