[Zope-dev] Re: Options replacing DateTime with datetime!?

2007-09-27 Thread Laurence Rowe

Dieter Maurer wrote:

To enable an evolutionary approach DateTime - datetime conversions
must be made round-tripable. This is currently difficult as DateTimes
have a resolution of milliseconds and datetimes a resolution of
microseconds. I propose:

  * Increase the resolution of DateTimes to microseconds

  * Modify the DateTime constructor to handle datetime objects

  * add an asdatetime method which will return a datetime object
(avoiding any issues with floating point conversions).

If there is support for this I will supply a patch.

Sounds as a good first step.

Why do you need a microsecond resolution?

Only because datetime.datetime has a microsecond resolution. Lossless
roundtriping is important so formlib etc can detect changes (DCWorkflow
expects DateTime.DateTime, sqlalchemy / zope.schema uses
datetime.datetime and I want to use both.)

Many thanks to Jim for working on the export on the zope.org side and the

We have lost some history in there, at least for recent updates to the

so. If you have docutils installed, you can render this file yourself
using the rst2html script. It will show warnings and errors during
the rendering. Fix those, and PyPI will happily render your reST as

You can do it like this :

 $ python setup.py --long_description  ld.txt

Now remove first line of ld.txt , it's a junk info, then :

 $ rst2html ld.txt  ld.html

Basically everything is true. The time of www.zope.org as a software
repository has gone. In earlier times zope.org has been the only Zope
related site. Nowadays with the growth and Zope and a lot of new
projects, projects moved out into different sites. zope.org is an
official project of the Zope Foundation and there were some talks on
relaunching zope.org - however I don't know about details and the
current state. The new site is likely to become a small site
representing the Zope platform in the first place.

I used to be pretty active on the original Zope site. Then we got what
we asked for, and it was migrated to Plone.

Then it got too cumbersome to work with, and I put all the new stuff out
on my own site.

These days I use a mix of plone.org and my own site.

zope.org is pretty irrelevant to what I do these days. I believe it is
so for many zope people.

[Zope] Problems with my ZMI

2007-09-27 Thread Ken Winter
A year or so after installing this installation of Zope, I'm suddenly having
trouble opening Python Scripts and Page Templates for editing in my ZMI.
(Zope 2.9.6-final, python 2.4.3, win32.) Specifically:

1. When I click on the name of a script, I get this message:

Site error

This site encountered an error trying to fulfill your request. The errors
were:

Error Type

IndexError

Error Value

string index out of range

Request made at

2007/09/27 17:06:33.640 GMT-4

2. When I click on the name of a Template, the template's Edit tab
opens, but the field containing the template body is shrunk to its minimal
size (3 rows high x a few characters wide). An attempt to fix this by
hitting (for example) the Wider button evokes:

Site error

This site encountered an error trying to fulfill your request. The errors
were:

Error Type

ValueError

Error Value

invalid literal for int():

Request made at

2007/09/27 17:11:33.375 GMT-4

Restarting Zope doesn't help.

Any fix for this? (Preferably a fix that don't involve reinstalling Zope
and everything else built upon it.)

In the meantime, any workarounds that will enable me to edit my objects?

~ TIA
