Ok, so if you missed this, it should be archived for the remainder of this
week at the same site, including a Carl Craig babysitting/DJ set, lots of
music from the Detroit Experiment and lots of talking about Sun Ra. The
album sounds amazing, including a cover of 'Too High' with Amp Fiddler on
In return, I can strongly recommend the Yunx SO*_WHATtype of MUSIC

the style of Carl Craig, Detroit Escalator Co. and Bola. The first
track (from their last EP) has some lush strings on it.

I must 2nd Mr. Middleton's recommendation of the Larry Heard remixes of

That's the best I can do for a nutshell.
I've long lusted over the Amazing record cleaning machine. (See

They have one at smallfish. Saw John Reynolds using it when I came there
during the summer last year.

I heard the tracks about 18 months ago (probably the same versions as you

in places, but were definitely trademark Sub Knight quality...

Pole is definitely worth checking out, though 3 is the only one I have
heard.
An absolute essential (if you don't already have it) is Scion's Arrange and
Process Basic Channel CD on Tresor.
If you like your dubby techno, you should check the MP3 and RealAudion
filers on this website:
Dont have the Pole '3', but do have Pole '2' and can highly recommend it. Check
the www.allmusic.com reviews.
Fluxion - 'Vibrant Forms'
and Monolake - 'Gravity'
are well worth a listen.
Also the Clicks and Cuts V3 is not too bad, probably more in common with Pole
sort of stuff.

The Science of Breath by Polmo Polpo - fantastic CD from the sound to the

nice review of it at Forced Exposure

A bit late this but I have to agree that Osunlade was sweet.

I don't know the trackier stuff well enough (I noticed there's loads of Mills'
own tracks though, which is nice) so my contribution might be some tunes in the
classics section:

I can't say I noticed the bad mixes cos I was too busy getting down and
screamimng Aciiieed!. Mind you, I've never been someone who cares that
much about it or even notices it unless it is spectacularly good or
spectacularly bad - it's the tunes that matter for me - eg Ben Sims is a
great mixer
I know exactly what you mean about Sims. I've heard him twice now (@ both
Retroverts) haven't been overly impressed at all. He seems to have a
'shuffly' sound (i guess that's what you mean by 'bmtisch bmtisch') which
doesn't do it for me. I thought Ruskin played the best records Deetron
was
It depends what you're saying about bad mixing - if you mean trainwrecks
it can be annoying but I can forgive the odd one and I'm not overly bothered
by uninspired mixing as long as the tunes are good. For instance Mills' R1
set the other day seemed fine to me - I can't say I noticed anything too
PS what you say about anyone being able to play good tunes badly - anyone
can play records yes and I think this is a good thing - this is what I like
about the scene- it's like punk - anyone can and does do it - that's why the
scene (in the UK anyhow) is so thriving cos people are just doing it
from what I understand Trax pressings used to recycle all kinds of stupid
stuff to make their vinyl from. My buddy has 4 copies of an Adonis record,
and every single one of em skips in a different part of the track. Which I
guess makes DJing more fun, cuz then you can do some double copy cut ups
As i learned last night by watching pump up the volume, the Larry dude owner
of trax used to buy unsold new vinyl and melt them to press the Trax
releases.
i wonder about the represses...

I doubt the newer represses are made from such impure recycled material as
back in the day, but they are still substandard. Every Trax 12 I've ever
seen has been flimsy as all hell... You'd think they'd put out a special
series of 180g virgin vinyl represses after all these years-- they've only

While on the house recommendation tip, don't sleep on this re-edit. Nicely
dubbed in a few parts, but appears to be reasonably faithful to the original
(having not heard it myself - just guessing). At any rate. I can't stop

Bit of a tech post but figured some folks out there might want to see the
