“Discover how to dance. Discover how to move. Explore yourself. Move 
yourself. Use all of your skills. Use all of your energy. Move yourself 
in the music.”


The message couldn’t have been clearer to anyone dropping the needle on 
the very first transmission from Eevo Lute Muzique. In 1991, it was a 
useful guide to have (from an Atari ST speech synthesizer, no less). 
From the Detroit flash point to the early European adopters, techno was 
changing month on month, and reaching uninitiated ears with every new 
outpost and iteration. A little advice from our electric friends made 
clear this was experimental music that required a little cognitive 
interaction.


Of course all those tentative steps towards a European take on Detroit 
techno manifested in the shadows of the pioneers, so it was significant 
that both EEVO001 (aptly named U.S. Heritage) and EEVO002 received 
explicit approval from the source via a licensed US release on Planet E. 
Carl Craig’s label had only put out one single prior – his own seminal 4 
Jazz Funk Classics 12”, before opting to showcase this emergent sound 
from Europe.


That sound was the work of Stefan Robbers and Wladimir Manshanden, who 
were embarking on a new adventure into electronics with Eevo Lute 
Muzique. Florence was a new alias for Robbers, who was already one of 
the undisputed pioneers of Dutch techno. His releases as Terrace 
inaugurated Eindhoven institution Djax-Up-Beats, Saskia Slegers (Miss 
Djax)’s seminal troublemaker of a label. The feeling from Eevo Lute was 
different though, less indebted to gnarly Midwestern jack and more in 
thrall to Detroit’s loftiest dreamscapes.


Much like the Detroit pioneers though, the inspiration behind Eevo Lute 
went back further than the late ‘80s. Robbers and Manshanden were 
drawing on the synth-fuelled, lyrically-charged soothsaying of Anne 
Clarke, Trisomie 21 and Pet Shop Boys as much as the pure machine 
messages of the Belleville Three et al. It’s a quality that became one 
of the defining factors of Eevo Lute’s early run, and in particular 
Manshanden’s techno poems. This embrace of verbal expression lent a very 
human heart to the music, and afforded them the chance to carry more 
overt political messages in the music too. It’s a quality that carried 
through to the records themselves – hand-drawn illustrations and 
graphics channeling the counter-culture street energy of graffiti rather 
than the often-faceless mystique of conventional techno aesthetics.


Eevo Lute provided early support for many of the artists who would go on 
to define Dutch techno in the ‘90s – Jochem Peteri (as Ross 154), Dylan 
Hermelijn (as 2000 and One), Erwin van Moll (as max 404), David Caron 
and more besides. There were others lighting the way too – it would be 
remiss to ignore Jochem Paap releasing on Plus 8 Records as Speedy J as 
early as 1991, or some of the other Djax-Up alumnus such as Random XS 
and Like A Tim. But just as important was the growing international 
techno scene, which Eevo Lute was naturally patched into. Beyond the 
aforementioned early link with Planet E, Robbers and Manshanden were 
also exchanging ideas, remixes and releases with the likes of Baby Ford, 
Kirk Degiorgio, Underground Resistance, New Electronica and General 
Production Recordings.


There were plenty of other styles that took shape as techno culture 
spread throughout the world – some harder, some softer, some dafter, 
some sterner – but this particular interconnected swirl of artists and 
labels holds true to the original vision the Detroit pioneers had for 
the music they were making.  It wasn’t just music as function, but a 
vessel for expression. Listen to any one of the tracks gathered here 
from the early run of Eevo Lute’s archives and you’ll hear the synths 
speak as lyrically as Manshanden’s vocals. The beats often skitter 
around the 4/4 meter, but rarely feel beholden to the rigidity that 
could be found in other iterations of techno. It’s also worth stressing 
this music had its own particular slant. It would be hard to name a 
particular precedent (or indeed descendent) of a track like “Robotica”, 
a veritable mess of crunchy drum break samples and erratic monophonic 
blips that wrestled its own groove out of the grid.


Having these works gathered in one consolidated release across 10 sides 
of vinyl, it’s easier to marvel at the coherence of what Robbers and 
Manshanden were pursuing. The sound is joyous at times, moody at others, 
but always rooted in the human experience. It’s a well-worn trope that 
the best science-fiction is about people more than technology, and so it 
goes here. Even at its most intricate, the emphasis is on composition 
and narrative rather than sound design and studio trickery. That’s 
precisely why the message reaches across the decades and

collection - although since I yet didn't manage to 100% complete it, I

with complete orchestras,
same as Derrick shouldn't have been in the studio with Dj Marcello and 
maybe also not with Steve Hillage,

like Ashley Beedle shouldn't have remixed String Of Life,
maybe remixes should be forbidden anyways (i.e. Luciano remixing Model 
500's No UFO's)

Mutek performance is Sunday June 2nd -

Borderland will be released on Tresor Records on 10th June 2013. Techno 
pioneers Juan Atkins  Moritz Von Oswald will debut their collaborative 
project Borderland at this year's MUTEK festival in Montreal. Having 
worked together behind the scenes for more than two decades, the pair's 
debut collaborative album, also titled Borderland, will be released on 
Berlin's Tresor Records in June. Recorded in early 2013 over various 
studio sessions in Berlin, the record comprises 8 sequences, seamlessly 
blending the styles of both techno masters, and will be released as a 
series of 12s and a CD album.

On this end of the Surrey Techno Dads posse, my older boy is making a

Since I can't crate dig in Detroit very often, I'm looking for
those sorts of things, after which i can engage in Internet
searchage.

them in the mail. And I must add that this was my first bit of 
experience with labels and royalties and stuff, and so far so good.

Juan Atkins returns to RS on a Model 500 solo mission. The last Model 
500 single enlisted the help of the live line up that includes Detroit 
techno royalty Mike Banks and UR alumni Mark Taylor, but this latest 
release is just Juan in the studio and back at his best.

but it's always personal judgement if it does of course
and can depend on which system the music is played after (home

The A side has a long and dubby (no suprise there!) mix by Johannes
Volk - it's a bit Dubby Techno by numbers but it grows on repeated
listening.

Much more interesting is the XDB mix on the other side - kind of
reminds me of Iz and Diz at their best or a spacey Prescription
Underground sort of thing.

Best mix for me is actually the Patrice Scott Beatless Dub - lots of
building atmospherics and pulsing bass lines with no regular kick drum
- really well done (only a few mins long though)

including bookings agencies.


i think you only need a booking agency, if already have several lot of 
gigs  requests

and need someone to arrange all booking requests for you.
not to other way around - they won't give you a lot of more gigs or some

regarding finance
normally a booking agency charges 15% of your fee on top to the 
promotor/club who books you.

so 500 fee for you, means booking agency charges 75 for himself.
so a club pays 575 in total

whether the agent does all your gigs exclusive is up to you
you can do worldwide exclusive
sometimes they do by continent or country (like booker A is UK, booker B 
rest of Europe)
but other deejays have two agencies, both working non-exclusive for 
whole Europe


but as said before, don't expect (too much) an agency to generate more 
gigs for you

Delsin Records (Amsterdam) presenting their latest, and upcoming bits.
I started the mix with the soulful jam by Yotoko (aka Domu  Shifty) of
their album 'Wet Ink'. Next up is the debut by Dj Yoav B from Isreal, until
now only known for a remix he did for Aaron Carl. For me, this track really
ends up somewhere between the Moodymann, Paperclip People and
Newworldaquarium, with it's freestyle hiphop approach to house. Next up is
Yotoko again, with the most housiest track of the album, somewhat reminding
to Pepe Braddock's output. Fourth track is another by Dj Yoav B. This track
comes more with a 80ties / Disco Not Disco vibe to it, very funky. Then it's
twice Dynarec time, who will release his debut album in March. First is a
more electronica/chill track, which to me very brought back shivers,
reminding to the first Aphex Twin ambient album. His second track gives raw,
funky electro, as only the masters Drexiya / Krwaftwerk can do. The man
$tinkworx is up next, with twice pretty dirty disco styled house tracks, in
style of Metro Area and others, an own track and the rollerskaterdisco remix
by Putsch '79. The mix ends with two straight up techno things. First up,
some advanced Sci-Fi techno, in good old Dan Curtin style, by Starfighterz.
The last track, by Dynarec again, is charted no 1 by Dave Clarke in his
latest techno chart, so you know what to expect!! Delsin / Peel Seamus say
'bis spater'.

D5 - Formation One (Digital Soul Records)
D5 stands for Dimension 5, at least in the past, and he already released
on Delsin, now he's coming with up with a new ep for this english label
and he's starting controlled force with a deep grooving track (deep
groovenden track, we ain't got own words for that...:), a track that
lives from the tension between the harmonic(harmonious), warm pads on a
simple groove and the jerking/tugging-freestyling sounds, which sound
like the striking of a side on metal. Alas, a synthesizersolo that
really lives. Oscillator leads us back to those times, when a
solitary/single sound was so perfect, that you didn't need much more,
because the sound was so fascinating for itself, that even the most
beautiful strings would only decorate/ornament it.(?) an extremly deep
bit/piece/hunk of detroit. the title track slams a bit straigher with a
dry beat, but stays as well in this wonderful world of unity between
synthie-sounds and beats, which get a oldschool-touch through the
harmony changes and the lashing/flogging 808 snare. Brilliant record.

as to the shops, they are offered pretty expensive by the several
distributors
and they offer it more expensive, as they but it in more expensive
and of course shops take their own margin.

  its funny that anyone would complain about the prices of
  mahogani especially considering the general price increase in
  trying to find a mahogani or kdj record later on down the line.

 I'm sceptical as to how much the prices really will increase for the
latest
 batch of Mahogani stuff. Even stuff like the ultra-limited Private
Pressing
 isn't going for very high amounts on eBay yet. I think most of the
hardcore
 collectors are buying the new stuff as soon as it comes out, whereas a lot
 of them would have missed the early KDJ releases first time round, hence
the
 high second-hand prices for those...

 But while we're on the subject I think the last couple of Mahogani
releases
 have been pretty weak - I wouldn't mind paying full price for a one-sided
 12 if the track was amazing, but the AM and Kai Alce things are pretty
 underwhelming IMHO...
