If you have a machine running 10.11.x, you might get away with starting the new
machine in target disk mode, downloading the 10.11.x installer from Apple
again, and installing it on the target disk. I did this last night on a machine
that had been 10.6.8, and bricked trying to force 10.12. Worke

With some luck, you might be able to downgrade the new iMac or Mac mini to OSX
10.11.6
One of my customers did that successfully on a number of newly bought machines.

The next step will be to move to v14, 15, or 16 of 4D before moving to
10.0(?), .11(?), .12(?).
