In a departmental environment, a client wishes to place the 4D v15
standalone executable on a network server and allow users to launch from
there in "Connect to mode" and connect to a 4D Server v15.
Is this advisable? Would there be issues with the client distributed
resources?
Thanks,
Thanks Tim!!! 😊

Hi David,
4D 15.2 was released April 12th 2016
kb4034681 was released August 8th 2017
Maybe you could try a newer build of 4D?
Perhaps the latest nightly build of v15 (August 22nd 2017)
Or at least 15.4HF3 (July 6th 2017)

This update on a SurfacePro running Windows 8.1 stopped 4D v15.2 Remote and 4D
v15.2 Volume desktop from working.
I had to uninstall the update to allow 4D to work again.

I just made a very interesting discovery and thought I'd share it with the
group -- it's timely given the recent blog post by 4D about dashboards.
We're huge fans of dashboards here at Sweetwater, and our dashboard tool of
choice is Prometheus. We use this on all our major servers -- Exchange,

Jeff,
Yes, that is what I was thinking made the most sense based upon your
explanation. It sure seems like the call is blocking, and stopping all other
processing on the Server. At the very least, it is consuming most of the
processing power. Can this be done from a Client instead?

I have noticed similar issues when using 4D fn calls from single user to

synchronous call but under any regular to heavy load, it appears
synchronous. Indeed at 2 or 3 summits again Neil Dennis and I had this

Jeff,
We have experienced a similar type of situation when using 4D SQL (to extract
data from a MS SQL server). As best we can tell, the SQL call is blocking,
locking out all other processing.
Were you running this from the Server, or a Client?
Steve
