[AI] A glympse into the working of a Gramophone

2012-10-07 Thread Syed Imran
Hi all

A gramophone is An antique record player; the sound of the vibrating needle
is amplified acoustically. It is the first machine to reproduce a recorded
sound with clarity. Has anyone come across a wind-up gramophone which
required no power? If so, please give its physical description.

This is invented by none other than one of the greatest inventor Thomas Alva
Edison. His other inventions included the incandescent electric light and
the microphone and the Kinetoscope (1847-1931).

In case you are curious to hear a sample sound of how a gramophone worked
those days, here's the link to the Advertising Record of phonographs,
recorded by Len Spencer circa 1906.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/76/Advertising_Record.ogg

The recording begins, I am the Edison phonograph ., and explains the novel
benefits of the phonograph from the first person perspective of the machine.
A very early landmark of advertising in modern media, this was played widely
in shops to entice customers.

It is an Ogg Vorbis sound file, length 2m 23s, whose bit rate is 81kbps.

Thanks

Syed

 Hello all,
Please note that although android provides access to unlimited number of
apps and new features in terms of accessibility there are still several
challenges as compared to Symbian phones with commercial screen readers.
 1. Using the IVR during a call
 2. looking up contacts during a call
 3. distinguishing between outgoing, incoming and missed calls in the log
 is
 not straight forward
 4. looking up contacts with touch screen is time taking although I am
 now
getting good results with voice search
 5. GPS navigation experience is not as smooth as NOKIA although it is
 more
 accurate
 6. most of the times you will need two hands to operate touch screen
 phones
 7. operating the touch screen when the phone is held close to the ear
 may
not be possible, you may feel the need for hands free many times

There may be more items to this list. But the android device feels much
 more
than a phone in the hand. It gives you the feeling as if it is a device
 with
life and immense possibilities. It is definitely much more than a phone
 and
for people who use the phone only for calling the time spent on learning
 it
 is a waste.

And I feel sorry for talks and spiel as they are being compared to a
commercial product like TALKS. Talks should be compared more to mobile
accessibility in the case of android. Mobile accessibility does fill up
 many
 accessibility shortcomings in android.

HI friends,

Just installed Jaws 13.0.1005, and could get rid of this problem.
Since this problem wasn't there in firefox, thought it was browser

I'm using IE 8. Are there any accessibility issues in IE 9?

IE9 has a rare advantage. It allows continuation of download. I recently
downloaded sp1 of windows 7 which is 537 mb in five or six installments
using my c5 handset. When the download option comes up, yu have to go to
 the
 notification bar using alt+n.

I have am using jaws 13 with IE9 and it seems to be working fine so far.
However, I don't have much time for surfing these days.

 Hi,

this seams to me a bug of jaws, and not the browser. Therefore i wouldn't
recommend u to upgrade your browser, because in i e 9 u wil not get good
experience. For instance jaws will not announce progress bar i.e. How
 much
the page is downloaded. In addition, the download process also seams to
 be
 tricky.
However, these r my personal views. This entirely dipents on u whether u
would want to upgrade or not.

 Dear friends,

Is internet explorer 9 fully accessible? I am using IE 8 in which I'm
facing a strange problem. For example, if I write vamshi in a line,
and move to the letter V, Jaws is reading vamshi v instead of the
letter v. And in the message body of an e-mail, Jaws is reading the
words message body before every line. Will this get solved if I
 move to IE 9?

Wow! nice feature of Jaws14, who are not able to try Jaws14, can try

There is a utility called Adfender, which help us to load the webpages
without the annoying adds.
you can grab the same from:

HTH!

On 10/5/12, inamuddin inamuddi...@gmail.com wrote:

Dear friends, as you are well aware that some 24 houres ago, I have posted
some useful information regarding jaws 14 beta 2, In which I said that
freedomscientific is about to release jaws 14 beta 2 with in the metter of
day or two.
Now you can download and enjoy it. Here is some useful information below
Flexible Web
Frequently, you will encounter Web pages that contain a lot of excess
content which can make it difficult to locate the actual content you want,
or interupts the flow when reading. For instance, many sites contain
Google

ad frames. These can be troublesome for JAWS users as they disrupt the
reading order of surrounding content.

Flexible Web enables you to take more control of Web pages by allowing you
to quickly find the content you are looking for, as well as hide content
that interrupts the reading experience. You can hide sections of content,
such as Google ad frames or other types of unnecessary content, for a
smoother reading experience. In addition, you could have JAWS begin
reading

at a level one heading, or ARIA main region, as these may contain the most
interesting content.

To use Flexible Web, open a Web page you want to customize in Internet
Explorer or Firefox. Then, move the Virtual PC Cursor to the page element
you want to hide, or from where you want to start reading when the page
first loads. Activate the Flexible Web wizard by pressing the layered
keystroke INSERT+SPACEBAR, X. Alternatively, press INSERT+F2 to open the
Run

JAWS Manager dialog box, then choose Flexible Web.

Through several easy-to-follow steps, The Flexible Web wizard that opens
provides you with two options: hide or start reading at the selected
element. The wizard then guides you through the process of creating a
temporary customization by giving you various choices about the selected
element and how you want to hide it or from where exactly to start
reading.
Once the customization has been made, it is immediately applied to the
page.

For instance, if you choose to hide all frames containing advertisements,
you will not see any advertisements when navigating the page after making
this temporary customization.

If you are not happy with how a customization is working, you can open the
Flexible Web wizard to undo the last customization you made. When you
return

to the page, you can choose a different element or the same one, then
reactivate the Flexible Web wizard to retry the customization again
perhaps

with different criteria. For example, in the case of hiding those
advertisement frames mentioned earlier, you probably want to hide all of
them, not just the first one on the page. The wizard will provide you with
choices about whether to hide just the first one or all of them.

You can create as many customizations for a page as you want. Once you
have

created one or more customizations, you can save them as a rule, which is
applied every time you load the particular page or site. To indicate that
a

rule has been applied to a page, JAWS plays a sound after the page loads.
Rules can be applied to the current Web page, entire Web site, or globally
for all Web sites. Otherwise, customizations are only temporary and are
lost
as soon as you navigate away from the current Web page or close the
browser.

If you have made temporary customizations and you attempt to navigate to
another page or close the browser, a dialog box opens asking if you want
to

save your customizations as a rule.

To learn more about using Flexible Web, refer to the Flexible Web help
topic

in the JAWS online help (f1). In addition, the Freedom Scientific Training
department will be demonstrating all of the capabilities of this exciting
new feature in a free 1-hour webinar on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at
noon.
To register, go to the Free Webinars from Freedom Scientific page and
choose

the Register for free New in JAWS 14 - Part Two Webinar, October 24, 2012

 Hello all,
Please note that although android provides access to unlimited number
 of
apps and new features in terms of accessibility there are still
 several
challenges as compared to Symbian phones with commercial screen
 readers.
 1. Using the IVR during a call
 2. looking up contacts during a call
 3. distinguishing between outgoing, incoming and missed calls in the
 log
 is
 not straight forward
 4. looking up contacts with touch screen is time taking although I am
 now
getting good results with voice search

But the android device feels
 much
 more
than a phone in the hand. It gives you the feeling as if it is a
 device
 with
life and immense possibilities. It is definitely much more than a
 phone
 and
for people who use the phone only for calling the time spent on
 learning
 it
 is a waste.

And I feel sorry for talks and spiel as they are being compared to a
commercial product like TALKS. Talks should be compared more to mobile
accessibility in the case of android. Mobile accessibility does fill
 up
 many
 accessibility shortcomings in android.

This phone is a delight for a person with low vision. The fantastic big

the screen readable. The digital magnifying apps are also wonderful. They
convert this device into a good reading tool giving serious competition to
the digital magnifiers which alone sell for 20 K and beyond. I won't
recommend this to a totally blind person yet. It will be an unnecessary
extra expenditure on a big screen.

Hi Ashook,

I recently bought Karbonn A18, just the last week.

It has all the nice features that one would like to have in the

Hi Ketan,

It does look like a big task managing without keyboard but you will
get used to it i am sure. Also, one needs to keep himself updated with
the new technology.

Yes, there are phone with touch screen and keyboard. There is one I
know of Micromax A70 I think.

You may check on Flipkart.

Thanks and warm regards,

Dear Ketan,

My phone has Icecreeme Sandwitch, however, I hear, you may upgrade the

All those apps you refered can be used easyly. I also have a Tablet

explore things, as screenreading software is not inbuilt, I need to
download first.

Will let know when I actually use them and problems faced if any.
