[AI] Difference between I7 processor and I5 processor for a VI user?

2016-10-11 Thread Mohib Anwar Rafay
Hi members, I have decided to purchase one Lenovo Thinkpad X260. But
it is available in two versions, first is coming with Intel Core i5
6200U processor and 4gb Ram, while second is with 6th Generation Intel
Core i7 6500U processor and 8gb Ram.
But the price difference between first and second model is of 22,000 rupees.
So can anyone tell me what difference will it make in terms of speed
and usability for a visually impaired user? As I have to use jaws,
kurzweil, ABBYY fine reader and other necessary softwares.
Please guide me whether should I go for I5 model or I7 model. Mohib from Delhi.

Re: [AI] Operating in a Culture of Mediocrity

2016-10-11 Thread turab chimthanawala
Hi Rahul
My learnings from past experiences also fall in line with your post.
Well in most cases people generalise persons with visual disability to
be incompetent in other spheres as well. Thus unless we convince them
of our abilities through concrete proof such as doing well in
academics or receiving some acalades in other activities, they assume
that we are mediocre. This is the reason
that disabled people are seldom offered top posts in private
organizations or in the government. This perception is slightly
changing in metros like Delhi and Mumbai, but finds great prominence
in small towns like Nagpur.

Re: [AI] how to use function keys in Lenovo G50 laptop

Thank you Sir,

sure hot key method i'll try to apply.

On 10/11/2016 8:21 AM, Bikram wrote:

Hi,

Did you fail to disable it with the Fn+Escape keystroke?
If yes, then you have to achieve this through BIOS settings: Note that you
may need the support from a sighted person to interact with the BIOS
interface as the assistive technology applications cannot be lunched within
the BIOS environment as the initialization of hardware components and
configuration options on your computer is independent of any operating
system.
1. In order to enter into the BIOS setup utility, press the FN+f2 key
sequence as soon as the system starts booting, i.e. when you press the
power button.
2. Select 'configuration' menu and press enter.
3. Choose disable hot key mode and press enter.
4. Press f10 to save and exit bios setup.

Then try FN + Escape to see if it works. If that doesn't help either, you

Please revert if the above step doesn't work, and I will guide you through
the process of applying necessary modification in the BIOS settings to
achieve the same.

In the start search box, perform a search with "windows mobility center"

the keyword. Scroll down through the search results, and locate windows
mobility center option. If you find the option, press enter on it. Then
tab

Then click OK to save your changes.
Hope that helps.

There should be an option in the bios setting for disabling hot keys.

[AI] Operating in a Culture of Mediocrity

2016-10-11 Thread Rahul Bajaj
Hi Everyone,

I hope this message finds you well.
I am wondering what others think about a phenomenon that I have observed quite
frequently amongst disabled persons in India and have myself been a
participant in.
Because one's disability permeates every facet of one's life and constrains
many of the choices that one makes, I often find that disabled persons are
compelled to be in the company of those who are not as smart or bright as they
are. More specifically, since persons with disabilities typically are hesitant
to take the risks that are critical for stepping out of one's comfort zone and
meeting people who are as intellectually curious and professionally competent
as they are, they end up working/studying in a culture of mediocrity.

This not only applies in an educational and professional context, but also in
the context of one's spouse/dating partner. The idea that, in a country of
blind people, a one-eyed woman is the queen, therefore, means that the disabled
person is typically the outlier in terms of performance and ability. My
assertions are largely based on anecdotal evidence and my own firsthand
experiences, so I may be unfairly generalizing.
I would be curious to know what others think about these observations.

Best,
Rahul

Re: [AI] how to use function keys in Lenovo G50 laptop

2016-10-11 Thread Bikram

In the start search box, perform a search with "windows mobility center"
 as
the keyword. Scroll down through the search results, and locate windows
mobility center option. If you find the option, press enter on it. Then
 tab
to find and uncheck the "use functions keys as multimedia keys"
 checkbox.
Then click OK to save your changes.
 Hope that helps.

[AI] Planet Abled Greet Meet - An inclusive meetup to catch up with friends

2016-10-11 Thread Planet Abled
Hello Friends,

Hope you all are coping well shuttling between your study/work and the
festive season.

To break the predictable stuff we bring Planet Abled Greet Meet to you.

Planet Abled Greet Meet is a one of its kind platform to hang out & chill
once in a while with your friends or make new friends over a cuppa coffee
or pint of drinks or whatever your interest might be.

It’s an inclusive jaunt for people with different disabilities and without
disabilities to come together, share their stories and have fun and relax
from their daily routine.

So for a first, how about about taking a small coffee break this
weekend with the fresh aroma of some coffee, chat, laughter and lots of fun?

Come with your friends or alone and make new friends. Gain new perspectives
from new people you meet with lots of interesting talks and interactions
this Sunday at Starbucks.

Yeah we know you needed a break too from your hectic schedule, so we came
up with this. You can thank us later :)

P.S. – there is no charge to this Greet Meet, we just split the bill
amongst us like good friends always do.

Would really appreciate if you drop us a confirmation mail at
tra...@planetabled.com that you are coming so that we can make required
seating arrangements.

Starbucks is accessible via wheelchair but unfortunately there is no
accessible washroom.

There would be a sign language interpreter as well for the deaf so that
there is free flow of communication between people.

When : Sunday, 16th October, 4 pm.

Where : Starbucks Coffee, A Block, Hamilton House, Rajeev Chowk, New Delhi.

Near Rajeev Chowk Metro Station Gate Number 7.

Look forward to catch up with you.

Thanks & Regards,

Re: [AI] Read on: "BLIND PERSON CAN'T RAPE WHILE GIVING A BATH", COURT

2016-10-11 Thread pankaj Singh kushwaha
really, the term Divyang insults persons with disabilities on
following grounds, I. it denys the individuality of disabled person,
II. it does not recognise the personal capability, III. it takes
disabled people more than human, IV: the term Divyang, refers godly
capability rather than human capability, V. it gives religious
interpretation of disabled people, VI. it establishes direct contact
with god, VII. It withdraws the societal responsibility to adopt
inclusive social environment, VIII. it proves that the divyang is
acquired by that person only while the disability studies and
scholars associated with understand that disability is created by the
society. On 10/11/16, sadaf khan wrote:
