Hi Listers,
This is a little off topic, because it has not extactly to do with TSM,
but I'll give it a try:
I've got two Linux boxes (one with RHEL AS 2.1 (kernel 2.4.9-e.27smp) and
one with RHEL ES 3 (kernel 2.4.21-9.0.1.ELsmp)), both have an 3583-L36

though, it's all about onbar. If you're using ontape for your regular
backups you should not be using onbar for the log backups, the two

Hi Jack.
Since you are starting from the beginning, I think a really good source of
doc are the AIX certification self-study guides.
Go to www.redbooks.ibm.com and search on AIX Certification.

We have an IBM 3583 LTO library that has 3 LTO-1 drives, two of them are
SCSI, the another is FC. Once every 2 or 3 three weeks two drives (any two
of the three) would have problem ejecting tapes and go offline. I would have
to recycle the library power to get those drives back. Has anyone seen
firmware on the adaptor? ... had that issue with an emulex sol 7 on a ultra 10.

Hi Jie,
Does your drive also indicate an error code in it's tiny display, error
5 for example?
You can refer to your manual on what to do with the specific drive and
tape error codes.
Also look into the firmware level of your drives, library and rmu. We
had the same problems with our 3583 until
I've done it a couple of ways - 1st way was using oracle export and then
backing up the files using TSM - had problems with the size of the export
file, and backup and recovery were slow and a multi-step process. Required
constant monitoring during the recovery process.

If I remember correctly I uninstalled the TSM 32bit code then installed
the 64bit (same version). The only difference is that I'm running AIX 5.1.

The last time we installed TSM 5.2.2.3 on AIX 5.2 systems, I couldn't get
the 64bit version of TSM to install. No matter how I flagged the packages
in smitty, I wasn't able to satisfy TSM's dependecy checks. It seemed like
the checks wanted a fileset that wasn't names as expected.

Hello everyone!
I am not a Windows guru, so please excuse any mis-stated terms. We were
recently audited and were told to turn file auditing on all of our NT
servers. This has caused a tremendous amount of data to be backed up to
the TSM server. They have set file auditing by a Group Policy on

I am sure if you look in the ADSM-L

It has been discussed numerous times.

1. Turn off clustering support

TSM does not lock the total required space for a backup in a storage
pool before the actual backup starts or while in progress. TSM fills
the defined devices for a management class in order of definition until
the storage pool is full or the backup completes. Fill your disks and
TSM moves on to
