Do you have java installed on your Debian system? I had a similar problem on Novell SLES10: at one point the installation process tried to run java (without any explicit path), which didn't work until I installed java before installing ISC. Rainer Schöpf

Hi Christian, when I installed ISC I needed to have java in my PATH, possibly also the environment variable JAVA_HOME set properly. I'm not sure whether this is true if you install the JDK, but not the JRE. Assuming that your problem is the same as mine was, of course. The install procedure

I would definitely install the Sun JRE and make sure all the links to /usr/lib/java, etc. point to the right install directory. I remember on previous versions of Debian the JRE would install but every now and then the links wouldn't update. Your chances of success are higher with something
