In other cases we have only ever seen this error on the C drive and it
seems to be a corrupt disk entry, but we have not confirmed this theory.

We us an enterprise scheduler to issue a define client action on the TSM server
for each node to backup. We use the scheduler to limit the number of active
jobs to about 80.
The command we use is: define clientaction SERVERNAME action=i wait=yes
Andy Huebner
When ever I see:
Error starting schedule service: CadSchedName registry value is empty
I go the the regestry and verify that the value is correct. The value is under
the key for the CAD and the value may be missing or just blank.

Perfect. I am guessing that volume is an under documented option.

Subject: Re: [ADSM-L] Deleting a tape
We have about 800 volumes that are Remote Type. We only need to delete
the ones with a specific device class. Is there a way to accomplish
this? If we delete all of the remote types from the volhist, will the
in use volumes generate new history if we delete their old history?
Andy Huebner
We have a volume that cannot be deleted, same symptoms you describe.
IBM recommended an audit of part of the DB. We have not done the audit
yet due to time constraints. If all else fails you may have to call
IBM.

You should only have one default gateway. All other routing can be
taken care of with route statements. Having one default gateway will
make the system predictable.

have found out, will not copy an object the has some error, which
means the tape in the copy pool with the copy of the object does not get
expired and returned to scratch.

Any drive taken off-line then brought on-line will have a state of unknown. As
long as the path is on-line TSM will use the drive. As soon as TSM uses the
drive the state will change to something other than unknown.

, if it is not
properly setup it can cost a great deal of time due to tape mount waits.
The downside is we no longer have 9 copies of an object on tape, we only have
two, so in theory the odds of losing an object due to bad tapes is larger, but
it is still a number starting with a dot and some zeros.

problems on the servers knows about the problem and
understands your solution. We had a restore shutdown a department and
the server group took about an hour to find the permission problem.

A starting point for TSM data storage needs when moving from traditional backup
methods can be calculated with these steps:
1. One full copy on tape
2. The amount of data backed up by one incremental backup multiplied by the
greater of versions or the retention period.
3. multiply by 2 if you
1) 60 days
2) Active forever
Inactive, 365 days after the next version was backed up.
3) 60 days after all other inactive copies have expired.
You can test by setting up a MC using 1 day and 2 day periods. I would test to
make sure it behaves as expected.

We have 2 nearly identical AIX TSM servers; the one that is the library
manager has a CuAt.vc file that is 19meg and the server that is not the
library manager is 1 meg. Is this caused by TSM?

. The
source data is about 40TB, of which TSM has 72TB stored. TSM backs up
about 1.2TB per night.
To keep LTO3's fed, be sure you have adequate system busses to handle
the simultaneous reads and writes from disk, tape, network, DB and Logs.

for the
week it will take to move the data.
Are there any other faster ways to move the data?
