I thought the 844G was the gpon version. So you can’t get the software for
them unless you’re setup to buy them directly from Calix?

Its only feature rich with the software Calix gives you. Just selling
you a router is just sending you a router with a fiber gpon interface.
Doesn't do any good without the horse. If you talk to Calix they'll help
you understand the hardware and let you try stuff out. No reason to even
buy it
