I would think if they sold a ticket for game seven only they would be
pretty cheap now.

Why should the county not choose to build out natural gas to everyone? That
would save them all lots of money, that would be a real benefit. Why fiber
not gas?

Because gas can easily be substituted for an other form of energy, like
electricity? And everybody's already got

You have wireless internet why do you need fiber? Everybody can get
hughesnet.
The county should run water and gas first.

It does not have to be, but if one party offers dark fiber rental and the
other does not, then they are not competing directly on all levels. Open access
also opens up the market to a different level of competition, which may or may
not be a goal.
You need to contact your GFR, Government's Field Representative for your
area.

They can get you started.
They will also pay you about 5% on any money put in a payment escrow account
called "cushion of credit".

Have you actually used satellite internet?
The punishment for advocating that position is to have to use only satellite
internet u tik you cry uncle. :)

Here are the current RUS interest rates:

Looks like a 30 year bond rate is 2.6-4.425%.

Hughesnet... that's a bit ironic bringing that up in a conversation of tax
dollars paying for infrastructure.
Not going to argue semantics, but something to ponder.

Unless you chose the federal cost of money rate, it has been about 1% for 13
years and counting.

My bad. I've never taken RUS money so I wouldn't know.
Can you point me in the right direction?
Jared

Distribution costs money. New infrastructure costs money. The price of
commodities fluctuates.
Is it still four times cheaper when you factor in all that?
Don't ask me, I'm not a gas guy.

Any reason you can't
At the root is that you somehow believe government involvement is always
good. History doesn't back you up, especially where broadband is concerned.
Government, most any government, does a pretty poor job if what it should
be doing much less tasks it has no business doing.
You sound like someone

It is a very political discussion that will likely never result in any form
of consensus, especially among this group because of financial interests
involved, as to whether or not government should be involved in building
fiber networks. However, from my perspective (and UTOPIA Fiber's),

Allot of new subdivisions are getting fiber along with other utilities
around here mostly on east side of town. They use it as sales pitch as
well. I have seen TWC/Spectrum and contractors running new aerial runs
into these areas. Two WISPs are in area serving existing homes. Not

Do not have one. Have used one though.
Bandwidth shaper, QoS, DDoS detection. If I remember right it had some
caching features, but that's largely useless for most modern traffic flows.
P2P blocking, but not sure how effective that part is as it wasn't used at
the time.
Given the choice between
So then don't use a wireless last mile, use the fiber last mile?

We used one quite a long while ago. At the time, we were behind the
curve in terms of $/Mbps, and this allowed us to live with the bandwidth
we had while we worked on a fatter pipe. It worked reasonably well, and
it did reduce complaints. However, our bandwidth requirements grew
faster than it
