Hi everybody
at Swahili Wikipedia we have seen changes to our appearance which were
caused by action of a "Wikimedia Foundation Web team", without our own
consent. We discussed it in the community and by unanominous vote
decided to go back to the previous format. (see
Dear All
who knows the place where to find friendly wikipedians who are
template-wise?
For us at swwiki (and probably other smaller language versions too)
importing templates for infoboxes has become more and more challenging
as these have grown to be more and more complicated.
As we just
NB: looking at it: they might even work manually, not purely by bot?

Hi everybody
I noticed a sudden expansion of arz.wikipedia (Egyptian Arabic dialect
version). Can one of our Arabic speakers help (it would save time for me
as my Arabic is bati' ktir -too slow)?
Arz.wiki used to hover under 20,000 articles for years, was at 24,000
until November 2019 and then
Hi Rudolph, most welcome, karibu sana! What is your wiki - ID? (you
know among us wikipedia people we often like to snoop a bit and see how
the other one has edited, on what topics etc - to which our software
luckily gives us the opportunity to be curious a bit)

Dear Isa, dear Isaac, thanks for taking the trouble to react to my lines.
As for access - this seems to be ok now. It was not a question of which
language. I understand now the tool is not designed for cleaning up. I
think the tool is helpful - well for salvaging some material. It would
be more
Hi, I logged in twice to ISA yesterday and today and tried to change the
language preference. Was told every time "Something Went Wrong! Isa
might be undergoing maintenance".
Is that functional?
Besides: I commend the attempt to clean up but in future we should not
have to clean up. I had
Hi everybody, at Swahili Wikipedia we have an unusual project; the
University of Dar es Salaam asked for a manuscript for a Swahili Lexicon
of Astronomy. This will be the text of all related articles on our
wikipedia. (The proposal gives some background about this request).
In September we
Hi everybody
some of you know that I look from time to time into the statistics for
African language wikipedias. Today I made a comparison which makes me
doubt the usefulness of our beautiful wikimedia statistics, at least for
small wikipedias.
I found large differences for the same months in
Hi everybody
I was asked from the Tanzanian group about upcoming WikiIndaba. When I
open the site
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiIndaba_conference_2018, I find it
still with many empty spaces and some information in between.
Altogether I find the site not easy to navigate. To find the
Hi, idea sounds good but how to measure? We live and work in separate
environments, eg working in English, French, Arabic, Afrikaans or Swahili.
I definitely have candidates from Swahili wp, but nobody outside our
biotope pobably knows them.
On the other hand: if someone uploaded a few hundred
Dear Isaac, forgive me for trying to contribute something sarcastic. I
just wanted to point to the fact, that the nice article from Brazil
about our project carried a pretty stupid prejudice by listing different
"languages", but called the African ones just "dialects" , as if the
sounds coming
NB:
Asha–Rose Migiro would not be bad, either!

Hi, I tried to understand the problem. Not so easy in detail.
I see that they played at international tournaments, there are no
further sources except that they are mentioned in team lists.
That is not much but by my reading fulfills requirement of notability.

Hello everybody
I hope everybody returned home safely and in good spirits! Just wanted
to say I had a good time and enjoyed very much to see you all. The time
spent on crowded aeroplanes and waiting for connections was worth while.
I add that I uploaded a slightly enhanced version of my
Reacting to Massey, why not have all submissions received so far made accessible for all participants? Even if the programme still needs some finetuning, we could already see what is ahead.

Dear Felix, dear organizers
I am happy to hear (as surely all others are) that the preparations have
gone well! I think it will be helpful for all participants to have a

Hi Isaac,
I do not understand any Yoruba but from my point of view I see quality
as probable reason for problems you mention including small readership.
Yoruba Wikipedia has many extremely short articles even on basic
subjects. ( Odò (river), Erékùsù (Island), Omi (water), Òkun Atlántíkì
Hi Isaac,
looking at the report "page views per country" you get numbers which
wikipedia versions were opened per country.

and you can choose "detailed version"

Hi Ian, you did a great overview!
I propose also to look at some quality indicators because just article
numbers cannot say if people will read the contributions. There are
content benchmarks like the "1,000/10,000 topics every wikipedia should
have" lists, and some ideas to look up

I found it interesting to read the discussion linked in Asafs short post. As

met who obviously never or only very rarely had ever done edits
