I've seen a few msgs on the devel list and here that
indicate it should work, but alas, not for me. My alsa version

I can use alsamixergui to unmute Line1, and I hear the

Hello ppl
I've been messing around with my setup, trying to make gdam work - I've
set the ALSA drivers up, but gamix wouldn't recognize the subdevices in
order to let me channel them to front and rear. The subdevices could be
opened by gdam though...
On the other hand, XMMS and MPlayer turned sil

Hi to you all!
I am able to make my onboard ac97 (P4 vt8235 RH7.3 custom2.4-18) work. I can
hear various sound file formats, watch movies with xine, play quakeIII,etc,
rip mp3s and record sounds. BUT I can't hear any sound when I'm trying to
play CDs. I have no problem with CD music when I am i
Hi. Thanks for your info on enabling midi for vt8233. When I copied your
addons in my modules.conf, snd-mpu401 won't load. When I tried 'insmod
snd-mpu401 port=0x0300 irq=7', there's a 'device not found' error. What I
did was I unloaded alsa modules first. I wrote a script (soundon.sh) like

I am looking at setting up a box that can record four video/audio
streams at one time (using mp1e). The recording is low quality, both in
audio and video, so processing and bandwith is not a big deal.
The video doesn't seem to be a problem, I've put a few bttv video

Greetings,
I just upgraded to ALSA 0.9.0rc6 on my system at home with a Turtle
Beach Santa Cruz (Sound Fusion CS46xx, Cirrus Logic CS4297A rev 4,Cirrus

Hi,
I have installed (compiled) alsa 0.9.0rc6 under debian
(I've a SbLive).
Everything works fine but ONLY if I make a
/etc/init.d/alsa restart after booting.
If not, alsamixer, xmms's ALSA output plugin, etc.
don't work.
Note that if I push the reset button of my computer,
everything works.

Thanks a lot for being so helpful Clemens! :)
This has been a problem for many days now,
but after I followed your instructions, now Gnome
starts up fine, and I can play sound.
I rewrote the modules.conf file a bit, mainly to make
it more legible. May I ask you or someone else to
review it and se
Hello,
I have problems to get Alsa working on Mandrake 9 with an intel 810 (AC97) on

Compiling and installing driver, libs, utils and oss produced no errors. But
nevertheless I cannot hear anything.
Here are the results of "lsmod"

Hi!
I've got a fm801 based sound card which locks my computer completely

Hi! I got a little problem with ALSA!:
I can decrease and increase the front and rear speaker sepparately, but not
together. By using Wave (front) and Wave Surround (rear) in alsamixer, I can
therefore adjust the volume, though it´s very impractical that way.
Is there an option to alter the volu
Hello!
I have bought a usb webcam with built-in microphone. After I plug it in, it seems to
take over the status of "system soundcard", so I can't play sounds anymore, and the
mixer app shows only one slide (of course) - the one for the mic.
Or in fact, if i plug the camera in while the computer is

I've played with linux for a long time and I've never got the urge to make
sound work .. but lately the urge has arrived and I've been attempting to
get my Dell Optiplex GX1 (CS4236) running Debian Woody with 2.4.20 kernel
working with alsa (rc5 from unstable distro).
I've got the CD working fine,

leaving the power on, I get a midi device (garbled signals), and audio capture rate
seems to work for arecord, but alsamixer won't start, sayi
