help. Getting sound to work
I am a 7.3 redcrap with a newly and functional 2-4-19
kernel with sound modules compiled on an IBM stinkpad
600e 2645-4au. IBM docs say I have a Cirrus Logic CS
4239 and that I should use the CS4232 sound drivers
from OSS for sound.

I recently re-installed the ALSA package and can't
seem to get my cdrom to produce audio. Last install
required no additional effort for the cdrom device.
Now, RealPlayer produces audio ok...sort of, but no
CDrom.
Perhaps I need to give some command to kmod before
launching the Gnome cd-player. ?

I am using the cs-4236 sound card and am having issues
getting it to work after recompiling the kernal.
After compiling a new modutils-2.4.24 and checking for
soundcore:

when I want to insert modules should I be inputting
something other modprobe snd-cs4236 (snd-cardname)
since `snd_` has been depredated should I instead
input modprobe cs4236???

I have modules loaded and have cranked up all the
alsamixer settings but dont have sound...maybe because
in the Item: section next to each category is [off]
example Master [off]
master digital [off]
master digital 1 [off]
etc... is there a way to change off to [on],
