I'm not quite clear what you have in mind, you're presumably not talking about having a cycle of hard drives (are you?) but just keeping a mirror on a different machine.

Amanda's standard way of operating is to spread the full backups of all
your disklist entries

need to start backing up. I have two 15xDLT changers with two
drives in each at my disposal. The file systems contain a lot of
comressed data so I'm not using compression - just ufsdump.

is it possible, like with arkeia, to replace tape devices with a partition/directory
and tapes with files?
this would be particularly usefull, as it would allow me to run differentials all week
to files and then a weekly offsite to tape, and restores would be lightening-fast by
comparison.

We currently use 20 8 gig tapes for our backup in
amanda. We have obtained some 20 gig tapes and we
would like to add these to the backup schedule. Do we
need to replace the 8 gig tapes with the 20's or can
we intermix them?

restores from each config.
