[AMaViS-user] Forward mail directly to an MDA

2006-11-14 Thread Jona Joachim
Hi!
I'm new to this list, this is my first post.

I'm planning to set up a personal spam filtering gateway. It should
collect mail from several remote POP servers, scan them through amavis
and make them available through an IMAP server.
I managed to figure out how to configure every piece of software
involved, there is only one step that causes a bit of trouble. In fact
there is no need for any MTA in this setup. Amavis will get the mail
from fetchmail using plain SMTP and should pass it to dovecot.
I planned that Amavis would pass the mail on to procmail which stores it
in the MailDir format for dovecot to read it. The problem is that Amavis
doesn't support to relay directly to procmail or any other MDA. That
would mean that I have to use an MTA for the sole purpose of relaying
mail between Amavis and procmail. That's a bit of overkill IMHO.
I read in the documentation that Amavis can call sendmail via the
command line. Is this interface flexible enough to call procmail
instead? Is anybody aware of a wrapper script?
Perhaps there is also an easy way to configure postfix to act as an MDA.

Did anybody have to deal with this kind of setup in the past?

Best regards,
Jona Joachim

[AMaViS-user] Per-domain *_quarantine_method

2006-11-14 Thread Paolo Cravero
Hi,
I think the following quarantining method is not supported right-away,
but it requires policy banks:

@domain1 = quarantine to SQL DB_ONE
@domain2 = quarantine to SQL DB_TWO
@domain3 = plus-addressing
default  = quarantine to file

@storage_sql_dsn is used, but @lookup_sql_dsn is undefined (using LDAP
instead).

I browsed through the docs and *_quarantine_method are scalar, while
*_quarantine_to_maps do not allow so much flexibility.

So, do I need to dig into policy banks?

TIA,
Paolo

That comes from sa-update updates, I don't think all have reference. Find

Re: [AMaViS-user] amavis ignores spamassassin config file

2006-11-14 Thread Vincent Boucher
Thanks to all for your answers.

Peter:
you will always have to restart amavisd before it reads in any rules.
yes, i do this with the following alias
alias sendmail-start-all=(/usr/sbin/sendmail
-C/etc/mail/sendmail-rx.cf -L sm-mta-rx -bd -qp  /usr/sbin/sendmail
-L sm-mta-tx -bd -q15m  /usr/local/sbin/amavisd start)

I have a very similar setup and it works well for me. However I did not
symlink the files, but copied them to /var/amavis/.spamassassin/user_prefs
Not working too

Daniel:
 SpamAssassin 3.0.6 (2005-12-07)
That's really old... Lots of new features in 3.1.x, not the least is
which is sa-update (new rules provided periodically).
That's the version shipped with RHEL4 :( , I retrieved the last rpm
version from http://dag.wieers.com but cannot install it (conflicts).

Jakob:
You can check what rules spamassassin loads using
spamassassin --debug --lint .
Take care that you run this command as users amavis(or vscan) an nor as
root, i.e. do a
su - amavis

There's a nologin in the /etc/passwd for the amavis' shell
# su - amavis
# id
uid=0(root) gid=0(root)
groups=0(root),1(bin),2(daemon),3(sys),4(adm),5(tty),6(disk),10(wheel),48(apache),1002(yawtb),1502(spamm)
I change it to bash, su - amavis (now it's ok) and there is no errors
reported by spamassassin --lint -D. Rules seem to be loaded, for
example:

debug: config: read file /usr/share/spamassassin/70_sare_stocks.cf
debug: using /etc/mail/spamassassin for site rules dir

Mark:
# amavisd debug-sa
Argument 1,all isn't numeric in numeric gt () at
/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/Mail/SpamAssassin.pm line 245.
debug: SpamAssassin version 3.0.6
...
debug: config: read file /usr/share/spamassassin/70_sare_stocks.cf
...
debug: using /etc/mail/spamassassin for site rules dir
debug: config: read file /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf
debug: using /var/lib/amavis/.spamassassin/user_prefs for user prefs file
debug: config: read file /var/lib/amavis/.spamassassin/user_prefs
...

OK, finally I get it working by changing my alias to
alias sendmail-start-all='(/usr/sbin/sendmail
-C/etc/mail/sendmail-rx.cf -L sm-mta-rx -bd -qp  /usr/sbin/sendmail
-L sm-mta-tx -bd -q15m  (/usr/local/sbin/amavisd start |
/usr/local/sbin/amavisd reload))

that correclty (re)starts amavis

All is fine now; sorry,

Vincent

 Although these rules are used by the spamd daemon launched from
 procmail rules, they are not used by amavis. It causes the following
 problem:

  You can check what rules spamassassin loads using

  spamassassin --debug --lint .

  stuff will be read when amavis uses spamassassin.

  Hope this helps,

 I have seen occasionally where this could give wrong result for
 site rules dir. Stop amavisd and run it in debug-sa mode, look for

 [11992] dbg: config: using /etc/spamassassin for site rules dir
 or
 [11997] dbg: config: read file /etc/spamassassin/local.cf

 This will tell you what amavisd is using.

They are not that complicated though.. If you grep TVD, you can find that

Unfortunately, the file is too large to attach to this email. Therefore, I

BTW, Gary, did your Zimbra installation have the same problem with amavis?
At this point, unless someone sees something in the logs I'm providing that
may give a clue about the problem, I think my options may be to try to
reinstall, rebuild the server with sarge or try a forced upgrade.

Thanks for bearing with me, all...

 thanks to your subsequent email, I did get a lot better data from
 amavisd.
 http://www.tux.org/~storm/files/amavisd.log

Thanks, that is more helpful.

It sounds like a known PerlIO bug:
  http://rt.perl.org/rt3/Ticket/Display.html?id=39060

Could it be that your file(1) utility forgets
to terminate the last line of its output by a newline?

Would you please apply the following change to your 2.4.1,
which will make the debug log to show whether a line read
from file(1) did have a trailing \n or not:

+  chomp($ln);
   if ($index  $#file_list) {
 do_log(-1, NOTICE: Skipping extra output from file(1): %s, $ln);

and repeat your experiment. I'm only interested in (all) debug lines
containing text (without quotes): result line from file(1):

Re: [AMaViS-user] amavis ignores spamassassin config file

2006-11-14 Thread Sven Schuster

Hi Vincent,

On Tue, Nov 14, 2006 at 05:04:27PM +0100, Vincent Boucher told us:

I've recently gone through a mail server installation based on
RHEL4, too, and I actually deleted the original spamassassin rpm
from the system (rpm -ev spamassassin), and then installed the
current spamassassin version from the source (as I did with most
other prerequisites for spamassassin). My position is that when
it comes down to filtering spam, I favor an up to date spam
filter with recent features over base system packages which
just might get automatic security fixes if any...

just my two euro cents :-)

Kind regards,

Sven

Re: [AMaViS-user] Forward mail directly to an MDA

2006-11-14 Thread Gary V
Jona wrote:

I might do it like so, which I think might be a typical suggestion:

 fetchmail- postfix- amavisd-new- postfix- maildir

I would think a very basic postfix setup with something like this
might work (send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED]):

alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases
alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases
home_mailbox = Maildir/
mydestination = host.example.com, localhost
myhostname = host.example.com
mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8 192.168.0.0/16
myorigin = example.com
relayhost = [host.myisp.com]
content_filter = smtp-amavis[127.0.0.1]:10024

http://www.postfix.org/faq.html#maildir
http://www.postfix.org/BASIC_CONFIGURATION_README.html
http://www.postfix.org/STANDARD_CONFIGURATION_README.html#local_network
http://www.ijs.si/software/amavisd/README.postfix.txt

I don't have suggestions on procmail. The configuration above
will require some tweaking.

[AMaViS-user] adding a subscript signature

2006-11-14 Thread Grant Maxwell
Hi

I want to add a postscript signature (something like: This email was
checked by Amavisd-new) to every email we process.

Is there a standard hook/feature for this ?

regards
gmax

Thanks, looks normal, seems like all of these lines have a terminating \n.
Should I assume that all these sequences terminated in a Bad file descriptor
