Bow,
I would change out the following capacitors to .1 uF (or .22 if you like;
there won't be much diffeence):
C24, C31 and C35. C24 is key, while C's 31 and 35 will also affect
receive audio (more lows). While your at it, remove resistor R48, or make
it much smaller. It controls power output

The 850A and 852 have the same voltage rating but the plate impedance for
the 850A is 2500 to 5000 ohms, while the 852 is 1500 to 3000 ohms.

Thanks Mike,
So basically, the Mic is a great starting point?
I'm going to fit my favorite 6 pin jack tomorrow, then I will be able to
interchange mics between my mobile rig and the Johnson. While I am not
afraid to modify the radio, I want to keep it looking like it wasn't
installed by a Hack ;)
I remember being amazed as a 10 year-old when a family CB friend changed
from the stock Johnson hand mic to a non-amplified Turner desk mic on his
Messenger 2.
The fidelity improvement was incredible.
So, install your favorite mic connector. Then, follow your ears and your
instincts. If you wa
Hi all,
I am rebuilding a B & W L-1000-A amplifier deck. The Pi-Network assembly
looks like it has been fried all though the rest of the RF deck looks fine.
Does anyone know if the 852 Pi-Network would be a suitable replacement?
Thanks

Hey all,
Has anyone here ever played with a Johnson Messenger (or Messenger Two) CB
on 10 meters? I am looking for suggestions on how to get better sounding
audio out of the one I have. The Hardwired Crystal "Banana" microphone is
coming off ASAP and I plan on inputting audio from my rack gear,
KNIN is the station I could not recall. It was 990 and
there was another station there owned by Raymond Ruff that
was its competitor. I don't remember what the frequency or

Here in Oklahoma I have a choice of music, if you can

There is an old country station down near Dallas, TX that
plays it plus a small town station about 50 miles away. On
top of that a station about 25 miles South has R&R from the
late 60s to the 80s. There is another station ab

Now living in Utah, obviously I can't listen to WLS directly - at least

Beginning just after 11:30 AM central time, I had a 15 minute qso with Bob,

I had to bale out when the phone rang. Haven't heard any other AM on 10, and
none on 15.
He was running a great sounding Ranger, and I was on my usual Kenwood TS570.
