I also was thinking a 40 meter version would be really nice. At those
qrp levels and with summer approaching it would be a winner!! Heck why
not a 10 meter version too! Maybe he should offer a deluxe multiband
AM transceiver kit! Chaching!

Hi Brett and the group. You guys are having way too much fun with
these kits!! Just had a QSO with a few people and among them was Jack,
W9GT and although he was very hard to copy here in Louisiana, I was
amazed that I did catch a few words here and there despite an S9 noise
level. Had it
Hello AM enthusiasts. I think there is a fine art to ragchewing.
Because I sometimes struggle with it I wrote up a little article about
it. Hope you all enjoy it and I would be open to anything that might
be useful to add to it.

Hello Steve,
You bring up excellent points concerning the fast break-in mode of AM.
I do give a nod to the fast break in type of operation towards the end
of the article but I will add a bit more to that section. The low
power and limited antenna argument for faster break-in operation is
Well Bob! I've had more than one QSO with AMer's from the Northwest in
recent history! I certainly remember a few nice QSO's with Steve,
KL7OF from TumTum, WA. You gotta call CQ sometimes, you may be
surprised! Steve was engaging and interesting using a homebrew
transmitter and as I
Hey there John! Thanks for the kind words. I always enjoy our QSO's
as well. I have been listening to you and others on 7.160 AM as well
on the weekend afternoons and I will be getting something in the air up
soon to allow me to join you all there on 40 meters AM.

Very true Rob. The band/conditions do have to support the armchair
type copy for a good ragchew. The assumption is that these conditions
are satisfied. I had some great ragchews on all of the HF bands at
some point or another. It's a matter of finding another willing
station. Ragchews do
Rich is a pleasure to do business with. I just got off the phone with
him since my retro75 has appeared in my mailbox today. Whoo hoo! I
ordered a 3.880 and an extra 3.885 (one never knows) xtal. He actually
was on the road dropping orders off at the post office, one was for you

I would like to thank everyone for the quick,
Brian,
What kind of mic are you running? The DX-60 having a tube mic amp
(12ax7) does really well with hi-Z mics like a D-104 crystal mic.
It's a high impedance input and I used mine with a non-amplified D-104.
However when you heard me I was using a studio mic and I used a mic
preamp
Todd, Brian and the others do give some great advice. Replacing the
electrolytic capacitors should be a priority if the DX-60 is stock.
That right there just might solve your issues. Also, if it is an
original stock DX-60, the 2-prong power plug will have fuses. If the
plug seems It would
This is why tuning around the call frequency is important. Call on
50.400 and say listening 10 to 50 up. Or just make a cq up 10.

I have a DX-60 with the W3CK mods. It's AMAZING how many UNSOLICITED
AWESOME AUDIO reports I receive. People simply are sometimes in awe
that I am on a DX-60 (with the help of either an SB-200 or a Henry
2K4). These are usually more seasoned AMers too. These mods are not
difficult and are

Note that the potentiometer in the cathode of the modulator should be
50K ohms not 50 ohms. That's a typo.
