[android-developers] Forbidding touch event for underneath View inside FrameLayout

2012-02-03 Thread cindy
n my activity I use FrameLayout as a root container. Inside I've
placed SlidingDrawer and osmdroid MapView. When my SlidingDrawer is
opened and I touch it, MapView also receives touch event and tiles are
moved. How do I fix this? Here's my layout file:

FrameLayout xmlns:android=http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/
android
android:layout_width=fill_parent
android:layout_height=fill_parent

org.osmdroid.views.MapView
android:id=@+id/mapView
android:layout_width=fill_parent
android:layout_height=fill_parent
tilesource=MapquestOSM /

SlidingDrawer
android:id=@+id/SlidingDrawer
android:layout_width=fill_parent
android:layout_height=250dip
android:layout_alignParentBottom=true
android:layout_gravity=bottom

TextViev /
RelativeLayout
Button/
/RelativeLayout
/SlidingDrawer

/FrameLayout

I use the FrameLayout because it enables desired layout positioning.
Maybe there is another way to do what I want?

[android-developers] how to remote invoke an application on the phone

Hi All,

Angel.com has developed a very interesting application (http://

In this application, the user calls the IVR by dialing a phone number.
The IVR will then send a Push Notification to the phone, asking
forpermission to engage the user multimodally.

How do we do push notification on android phone?

[android-developers] How to make such a customized component

2010-11-26 Thread cindy
I need to build a customized component has following functionality:
1 it has 2 component, a special text input box, and a image button
2 The text input box has up/down arrow at the right end. When there

It is very similar to Google voice search. It has a input text box
and a search image button together.

Can someone give me suggestion on how to do that? any sample code for
that?

Horizontal LinearLayout with your special text input box and an

So define a layout with an EditText and two buttons.

When there is a list of result back, the text box will show the result
  list.

I don't know what that means.

   any sample code for that?

There is plenty of sample code for simple layouts as you've described.
However, the likelihood of there being sample code for your specific issue
 is rather small.

[android-developers] How to use NDK on Windows

2010-11-02 Thread cindy
Hi All,

I have installed Cygwin 1.7.7 for Windows.During the installation, i
selected to install GNUMake 3.8.1. All those went through smoothly.

After installation, I check the version of make using following
command:

/bin/make

The version is GNU make 3.81.

So I export the path using:
export GNUMAKE=/bin/make

However when I tried to run ndk-build, I still get following error:
You are using a non-Cygwin compatible Make program.

What am I wrong?

Thanks!

If all you need to do is send the file, Google android ftp to find
an ftp client you can run on your Android phone. Or you could write
your own code to open a socket and send the stream, but then you have
to worry about all the corner cases the ftp client has already solved

FilenameFilter has a single method accept(File dir, String filename) which
returns true if the given parameters are what you're looking for.

So you implement a class that extends FilenameFilter and override the accept
method to return true if the given parameters are what you're looking for.
So in your case you could check filename for starting with voice and
 ending in .amr.

Then you use the File.list() method with an instance of your newly defined
class to get all the files that match your criteria. Then it's a simple
matter of iterating the list and calling File.delete().

 Hope that helps.

And do test thoroughly so you don't end up deleting all of the user's SD
 card contents =P

[android-developers] Re: HttpURLConnection or HttpClient

2010-09-15 Thread cindy
How about speed? which one is fast?

On Sep 15, 5:59 pm, Indicator Veritatis mej1...@yahoo.com wrote:
Yes, we know why. Because Apache's HttpClient (and other closely
assoc. classes in the org.apache.http package) is a much better API
than Sun's own HttpUrlConnection (and the rest of java.net's Http
support). You can do far more work with less code, and it reads much
 better too.

So, for example, HttpClient has helper classes that help you deal with
 spinning off a worker thread and doing all the waiting on HTTP there;
it is designed to work well asynchronously. Sun's HttpUrlConnection
 has nothing of the sort.

That said, you don't get to depart from using java.net entirely. You
should still use it for dealing with URIs and URLs. But not for much
 more.

Because if you try to modify UI components from any non-UI threads, bad

Use adb logcat, DDMS, or the DDMS perspective in Eclipse to examine
the Java stack trace associated with your exception.

[android-developers] what is context?

2010-07-09 Thread cindy
A very silly question, What is Context? How to get it?

Context.getSystemService(TELEPHONY_SERVICE) to get access to the
TelephonyManager.

Thanks!

 It is a class.

  How to get it?

Activity is a subclass of Context. Service is a subclass of Context.
BroadcastReceiver gets a Context object in its onReceive() method.
Pretty much everything else gets it from one of those three sources,
passed along as a method parameter.

[android-developers] Re: how to start animation automatically

any sample code?

I have read some information online. It suggests to use window focus
event. Does any one has experience before?

Aside from that, I've encountered some buggy behaviour regarding the

try using a Handler to start the animation after a little delay.
