I noticed a few apps use the convention: External Storage Location/Android/data/package name For example, Google Earth places its cache on my Nexus One at /sdcard/ Android/data/com.google.earth Is this is a good standard to follow? It would be really good if there were at least some guidelines

No official conventions exist as far as I know. It would be very anti- social to store your files in the sd card root because of the clutter it would cause (and I'm surprised that there are apps that do it). If you're confident that your application's name will be unique, you could just create
