John,
Our experience here in Colorado has been that 30 minutes at critical
temperatures begins to damage buds and fruit (fruit are not usually
killed by 30 min exposure because they have a greater mass, but we have
seen damage to tissues that can be expressed as sunken, leathery areas

We got a bit colder at our site 26(bottom of hill) to 32.5(hilltop) and
we're in late bloom. I'm guessing the trees I shouldn't have planted at the
bottom of the hill are likely smoked. Any thinning suggestions for the
middle of the orchard? Or ways to evaluate fruit set with frost?

I don't think your temps were cool enough and especially the duration long
enough to cause damage. 28° is the temp for 10% kill post bloom but the
duration needs to be about three hours.
I wouldn't worry one bit. Growing apples in WA state we considered a frost like
yours to be a free thinning o
Hello
In our conditions such conditions (temps x duration) would only suggest to me
the probability of frost rings (russet rings at the stem surroundings) you
keep the fruit load more or less and you have a big job to do to carefully hand
thin.
We are facing cool temperatures too here, frui
Hi,
Had cold temps ranging from 27.5 to 29 in low spots in our orchard this
morning. We are a week to 10 days past PF, and fruit size is on ave 8-12 mm.
Does anyone have previous experience with cold temps at this stage that they
could share? Thoughts on approach to thinning, what fruit damag
