** Rod,
I like that idea. I guess if needed, I can then use the VM Workstation
to run Analytics or another instance of mid-tier which is less resource
intensive than AR.

Hi Tauf,
There have already been a lot of good advice on this thread. I'll just add my 2
cents' worth
After having lots of issues with previous laptops underperforming badly, I'm

Hi Tauf!
I'm running the virtualized ITSM on my laptop for more than a year now, and
I found that the bottleneck is the disk drive. So, using SSD would be the
best choice to get the maximum performance. Also, to run one instance with
full ITSM Suite, KM, SRM (mid-tier/application/database on one
Hi Tauf,
I have found that running Remedy without a virtual machine is actually a
lot lighter resource wise and more flexible. You don't need the overhead of
running 2 operating systems at once. I use the free SQL Server 2008
personal edition. On top of that I install the 7.6.4 Suite stack
on your machine remains untouched.

Looking for some opinions, suggestions, gotchas, all of the above.
I want to buy a laptop and also use it to host an ITSM platform for
sandbox or testing or demos. Here are some questions:
1. Mac or PC?
2. Solid state hd or standard?
3. If Mac, how good is parallels to host the environment?
Laptop.
Lots of ram 12 gig if possible
i5 quad core would be nice
SQL server we found we can run with 6 gig ram barely!
VMware player is the way to go
Recommend fast hdd or sdd
Get a USB 3 and esata plug. For external vmplayer modules.

The best virtualization platform to use is Oracle's Virtual Box. You can
change the mac address on Virtual Box which means you can use any of your
existing licenses for the virtual as long as you are not trying to use it
on the same lan as a machine with that license key.
