one of their consultants told me that sample data was included in the early
alpha/beta of 7 but then disabled.
it apparently is still there, but during the install the option to install
the sample data is set to 'No'
this can supposedly be seen in some of the install logs.

At the WWTEF in Houston a few months back, they (BMC) kept referring to
'bronze data'. Which was included in the image that was provided at the
training. I was under the assumption this would be included in the GA bits
as well and was surprised when I didn't see it during our install.

I didn't have any, either, and I did select the DSL.
Going through the process of configuring the data is a good way of learning how
this new application works - the only way at present. So, since Remedy
gave us lemons, I'm making lemonade.
