Re: RSP 7.X?

2008-11-12 Thread Robert Molenda
Well this is a quite timely post :)

Myself and a group of 10 other fellow Infosys Remedy Team members all were
RSP Certified a few weeks ago.

As Dave had pointed out this is now a open book test - not like the old
day of RAC where you actually had to build an application

The test is administered Online (true false, multiple guess, etc) and covers
everything from the ground to the sky.
ARSystem Concepts
Core Details - like filter phasing, threads, etc
Best Practices
Items from Admin 1 / 2 / 3
RADD topics
Performance Tuning
Debugging - (logging, etc)

For anyone who has taken the classes, and also gotten some hands on -
there should be no worries in passing.

Some of the questions make you seriously think simply because of the
tricky wording - however that was really enjoyable.

The best part?

LENNY WARREN was our instructor!!! - man it was good seeing him again :) of
course he did have to come to Bangalore :( - and well I did as well - but I
had other work to perform there anyway... (in Pune and back to Bangalore
still..)

Additionally - there are now going to be multiple certifications:

RSP - AR System knowledge
ATSC - Application Support knowledge
ITSMx - ITSM Specific knowledge.

As Dave pointed out - check the BMC education site for more details or
contact them directly - sometimes a phone call is better than the web...

In Summary - was it worth it? Yes - a few brain cells that I forgot about
got 'turned back on' again, however it was thrilling to see my team member
become certified - a credit to Infosys Remedy team. Next batch is scheduled
for next quarter- Infosys goal is to have everyone with some certification
either RSP / ATSC / ...

I'm thinking about taking the BMC Remedy AR System 7.x: Application
Requirements Analysis, Design Development class and getting my RSP
certification. If anyone has taken it, what's the level of difficulty in your
opinion?

I was going to take it in March, but at the end of 2008, simply taking the
What's New in 7.x is not going to be good enough anymore.

Here's what I've taken so far:

BMC Remedy AR System 6.x: Administering - Part 1 (WBT)
BMC Remedy AR System 6.x: Administering - Part 2
BMC Remedy AR System 6.x: Administering - Part 3
BMC Remedy AR System 7.x: Performance Tuning and Troubleshooting

If I take Remedy AR System 7.x: Application Requirements Analysis, Design
Development and take the test before 2008, I'll only have to take the What's
New in 7.x WBT (which I think I already took)

After 2008, you have to either take 7.x Part 1, 2, and 3, or take an
equivalency exam for Part 1 and 2 (and still take the class for Part 3) for 7.x.

So now I'm going to have to take this class in December and I was hoping for a
nice holiday with no studying, but I guess that's not going to be.

When studying for this exam, are the books the main resource?

Thanks everyone!

When I took RAD 2 years ago it wasn't too hard, simple things like how to
take a requirements doc and turn it into functional requirements, how to get
information from the customer that they didn't initially provide, that sort
of thing. I was told that the entire process would be changing
significantly and be more ITSM based than generic like I dealt with...

Re: RSP 7.X?

2008-11-04 Thread Opela, Gary L CTR USAF AFMC 72 CS/SCBAH
Lisa, I found all of the classes fairly easy and straightforward. If
you've been developing remedy solutions for awhile, especially if you
have much custom experience, then the classes should be cake for you.

The final class, where you actually earn your RSP, involves spending
around 3 or 4 days creating an application. They will give you a little
to start with, and then you finish the rest. The people in my class
ranged on their abilities. We had two people finish a day or day and a
half early, and then, from what I understand, a few people finished on
the last day.

Mainly go in it with confidence, and don't get freaked out. They are
good classes and the RSP is worth it.

Gary Opela, Jr.
