Our RUNNIX bootloader uses kernel 2.6.26 and AstLinux currently uses kernel
2.6.27.
My guess is that the SD card is not mounting since the IDE subsy
done that.
(a little point - when downloading multiple types (c3, i586 etc) the
filenames are all the same (astlinux-0.7.9-asterisk-1.8.4.4.img) so it
makes it really difficult to know which version you have!)
downloaded i586, imaged, booted, same problem.
/tmp has nothing in it.

I looked at there instructions and it seem that your box is very picky at
which SD card to use and how to prepare it as well how much voltage the box
needs.
Though those instructions are for ubuntu I think
You need to dd the geni586.img on the SD card and then boot from the SD.
You dont need the ISO.

I personnaly used Win32 DiskImager that is a free tool instead of
Physdiskwrite to write to a USB key under Vista. I always had a lot of
problems using Physdiskwrite on Vista to install to CF or USB key. I also
had to add rootdelay=10 in /os/astlinux*.conf at the end of KCMD= line for
booting from

I would try using dd.
I dont want to blame windows but maybe is not doing the copy correctly
specially the boot partition
Also can you use a CF instead of SD cards? I did had issues with older SD
cards when doing the partition in the setup.

I use a simple method to do my installs.
I boot the machine with a USB flash with DSL ( Damn Small Linux ) clear the
partition table on the
1) downloaded the c3 image
2) used Win32DiskImager to image the .img file to the sd card
3) inserted the sd card into the box
4) booted ...
5) it ran runnix. then crashed.

yup - have all those files. Card is formatted as FAT with 37.4MB used
out of 127MB (this is a 2GB card)

For those interested I got nagios working with a plugin called
check_asterisk_ami.
It works very well and it can monitor your peers and channels plus more.

mount it on a desktop PC and see if it is looks something like the following:
