I cannot jump out of the system, so I finally used the escape pod. The problem of course is now I have a ship floating out there somewhere. Is there anyway to get it back? Re: A Good Zompocalypse Book I'm Reading

2014-11-21 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : Dark via Audiogames-reflector

Re: A Good Zompocalypse Book I'm Reading

Glad it is a good read. I have a copy of the audio but have not read it yet. I confess zombie wise Ive been a little disappointed of late. I read some of Mark Tufos Zombie fallout series, but was not impressed, mostly because the main character was a really unpleasant right wing american nutcase who kept rambling on about A mans duty and everyone female was either pathetic or waspish, there was also far too much toilet humour, ie, descriptions of bad smells for the sake of it (gore is one thing, but intensive descriptions of how zombies smell like public toilets is quite another). Also the books seemed to be build to a climax and go no where, indeed had I not really badly hurt my arm at the time and was quite limited in reading matter I probably wouldnt have bothered finishing the series. I then tried Peter Clines X heroes series, which had the idea of super heroes plus the zombocalypse. It wouldve been okay if hed stuck
to the idea, however each book got a bit random and introduced more and more rubbish, for example one had demons, and because most of his heroes were nearly invincible to zombies the books felt a little unfare on the ordinary humans. They did have some good ideas and action sequences, indeed i actually liked the light he painted the Us military in, and also I have to give some credit for a fellow Whovian (he mentions Classic and modern Who several times and even has a couple of in jokes), however all in all they were rather meh, a bit of fun, but generally forgettable over all. Earlier this year I read world war Z by Max Brooks, which had some lovely pictures of international countries. My only two problems however were that firstly it concentrated waaay too much on America to supposedly be a world war, andsecondly that with showing us a lot of survivers, most of the surviver stories ended in random places and didnt get follow up. Indeed, I was sort of annoyed that
we got three or four segments from the American army captain, but only a couple from much more interesting people, the young girl trapped in the snows in Canida, or the chinese neuclear sub in a community in the south seas, not to mention the Muslim in Israil forced to change his mind about Jews when he found that zombies were worse! Really, compared to all those places and stories, America and the ausomeness of the Us military just didnt do it for me, oh, and it didnt help that his one single and only character representing the Uk was some old lord talking about how Jolly fine castles were and how those bloody nasty zombies were kept out of the twoer of London, where the Jolly old queen was still doing her bit for good old blighty what what old bean! . So, yes, good story, but a little lacking in parts. By far the single best modern Zombie story
Ive read is Justin Cronins passage series, namely the Passage and its sequel, the twelve. The zombies arent exactly zombies, theyre somewhat like vampires and somewhat just plane monstrous, and the society and world are really well put together, indeed one thing I love about the passage books is that they dont concentrate on the time immediately after the zombocalypse but have bits of setup during the zombocalypse itself, then most of the books set 90 years later in a very different world with some quite unique ideas. What particularly makes the passage books awsome though are the characters, just like in Were Alive, including the fact that the books are very unpredictable on who will and will not survive and how. Im hoping the third book, the City of Mirrors will be out soon. In the mean time Id recommend the first two to anyone. The books have been compared rather to The Stand, though for me they have a somewhat di
fferent feel.Apart from Were alive and Justin Cronin, both of which are absolutely awsome, I will confess most modern zombie fiction hasnt done it for me. Ill gladly try some more stuff, including Ethan Read but it does seem the genre is getting to be rather dominated by standard tropes which doesnt make for stories that really keep you on the edge of your seat if you can predict what is happening. This indeed is probably why I will always be a bigger fan of scifi or fantasy, sinse then you have a hole new world to explore with its own rules, customs and characters, not just our own world gone a bit bad. Then again, something like Justin Cronins the passage might come along and make me completely change my mind, and mayby Ethan read will too, I dont know.

Re: a pc problem

Disclaimer!!Some of the advice Im about to give you has the potential to make recovery from computer issues extremely difficult, if not impossible.Further, a couple things will disable features of your computer that you may want to use.I take no responsibility for crashes/problems that occur later; follow at own risk. With that out of the way, heres whats probably hogging your space:Im going to presume youve got a pretty large disk (500gb) and a few gb of ram (4 or ). If any of that infos wrong, let me know.If youre running windows 7, scratch 15gb right now for the os alone.Compressing the windows folder can help with this, but you probably wont get back more than a couple gb.If youre running windows xp, its 2-4 (maybe more, but no more than 10 if you have a whole lot of stuff installed) and again, compression may give you 20-30% back if youre lucky. The items yo
ure not seeing in c: are these:*pagefile*hiberfile (hibernation file)*system restoreFirst, lets work on the pagefile. Before you do anything with this, make sure you have more than enough ram to keep your os happy on memory alone. This means:*windows xp: 1gb or more, 2gb highly recommended*windows7: at least 4gbIf you dont have this much, youre likely to see performance issues and possibly crashes if you disable or shrink the pagefile.Pagefile is equal to your ram (if you have 4gb ram, 4gb disk space is used.)You can change the pagefile size (or disable it entirely) by doing the following:go to control panelsystemin windows 7, go to change settingsgo to the advanced tab, and select the virtual memory button.Youll have a list of all the drives on your computer, and what their pagefile status is.To change this, select c:, tab over and set it to custom size.Warnin
g! if you disable the pagefile on all drives youll get the most space, but you may cause your system to become unstable, and if it crashes, you wont have debugging information. In custom size, set it to something like 32-512 mb (min-max).Thatll give you a sizable chunk of disk space back, but were not done.Next up is system restore. Exit out of the pagefile dialog, choosing ok until youre back at the system properties window. Do not reboot yet.Make your way to the system protection (or system restore) tab.The instructions for configuring system restore varry from os to os, so Ill cover them individually. For xp:If youd prefer to disable system restore completely, simply check the turn off system restore on all drives box. This will however, prevent you from using system restore to recover later, so Id advise against it unless you want to reformat every time theres a problem. To change the amount of space used:Tab over to the list of drives, and select c:press tab, and select settings. Now simply move the slider around to control what percent of your disk can be used by system restore. If you have a large disk, its perfectly fine to set this to 1 or 2%.Press ok, apply and get out of system properties. Do not reboot yet.for windows 7:Again, from the system protection tab, do the following:Tab over to the list of drives, and select c:tab over to configure, and select it.You now have the option to either disable system restore (see above for warnings) or to move the slider to to change the percentage of disk used.Again, if you have a big disk, 1-2% is perfectly fine.Once youre done, exit out of system settings, answering no to reboot prompts. This should give you an extremely large pile of disk space back (up to whatever percentage the slider was at). System restore can hog 5
0gb in very little time at all. Finally, were going to work on the hiberfile.Hiberfile, like pagefile, is as big as your ram is.If you dont use hibernation (or hybrid sleep on windows 7) you can go ahead and disable this, and reclaim some space. To disable hibernation (any os):press windows r to open the run dialog.type cmd and hit enternow type the following:powercfg /hibernate offexitand reclaim another pile of disk space.Youll need to reboot for these to take affect, so go ahead and do that, and enjoy a nice, free drive.

Hello Fluffy Solger.Well I dont think you want an old version of bgt. If your having problems playing games try doing this.Go to blastbay.com and download the new version of bgt which is free. Once its installed then get the bgt games you want to play. Go to the main script if you are playing damage extreme then the main script would be damage extreme.bgt. Now go to the file menu and select compile script this will compile the entire game into an executable and this should take care of your problem.Oh and one other thing make sure you install bgt before you install any bgt games since this causes some kind of weird bug if you install bgt after you install bgt games.Hth.

Re: in search of a new braille display, any advice?

Depends on the definition of a notetaker. If it just reads and writes files with or without translation, and especially if it supports brf and/or plain text, then I personally would consider (and do consider) the notetaker feature valuable. Smartphones/tablets are all very wonderful, but if you cant do a lot of bulk reading and writing on them, that will probably always be true.Having said that, my BrailleNote Apex is no longer fit for purpose as anything more than notetaker, braille terminal and Z-Code game player (caveats apply), as well as clock and dictionary, so if even those functions could be delegated to an external device Id do away with even that and get just the display with input. Its up to the user, of course, I just dont think we should be too quick to banish what works, either.

A reformat should clear out most temporary files so youd only have a relatively small amount left from the windows install, though clearing these out isnt a bad practice. Rather than using the windows tool I prefer CCleaner from piriform.com but make sure you go through the options and turn off anything you want to keep for the web browser you use. Thanks for the tip about hibernate, I didnt know about that one.

For a hint, though, mostly negative, because the game is hard and repetitive. Apparently, Somethin Else arent working hard enough to introduce the newbie player, or else our expectations are too low to know whats good for us because the ambience still isnt enough. I found myself getting rather defensive on that point, but its sobering, all the same. For the record, I think its a fantastic game.

Re: Audio Defence: Zombie Arena -- From the Creators of Papa Sangre 2

Hi.ARG. Reading those reviews made me mad. I actually commented on one. I hate how they think theres only one way to shoot and reload and so on. Oh they were fine with the turning but the shooting and other things? There are four buttons on the screen and thats it. Well okay, in that way of shooting yes there are, but there is one other way of shooting as we know. Over all the reviews are very negative and show that the reviewers didnt put much time into reviewing. Now Im off to shoot some zombies. Oh and for your own sanity dont look up audio defense on youtube... just dont do it... No really dont... Theyre really bad at playing.

Re: Attacked On A TeamTalk Server

Hi, there are people who are going to harrass you no matter where you go. There are also people who are just extremely bored who have nothing better to do than make life miserable for everyone. You just have to sort of live with it. If post 1 is, indeed, true, I dont understand why you would give into what they were telling you to do and say those bad words about yourself. Seriously, if you are saying those kinds of things because people were pressuring you into doing so, that might be a problem that you have. It may have been easier to just walk away. And if you are that desperate to talk to people, then you may be having a bigger problem than online trolls. Also, like what Nerdball said, all five or six of the others on the channel accused you of saying those bad things about other people on the server. I highly doubt that they are all of the same malicious mindset as Devon, who, according to other posters on this topic, is just out to troll people. This seemingly collabor
ative false accusation thing is what really leads me to believe that at least some of the things you wrote are falsified or overexaggerated or something.

Hi Dark.Well your definitly right after were alive and the passage series its really hard to find a story that is just as good. Ethan reid is definitly not in the same league as justin cronin but hes still good all the same. I hope cronin will release city of mirrors pretty soon since he said it was coming this year. One thing I dont understand is that cronin resolved so much in the twelve I wonder how much more story is their? My only disappointment is that the undying is only from the point of view from one person at least so far. I miss having an ensemble cast since thats what I was expecting but his characters are believable anyway. And its not your typical story where zombies just pop up out of nowhere its sort of a combination of things that caused the appocalypse which I like a lot.

Unless you have an important issue which requires a bios update to fix then its probably best not to fix something that isnt broken. If a bios update goes wrong it can brick your motherboard and there is no way to recover from this.

This problem is a problem that Im aware has existed since I was 8 years old and has persisted throughout this time since then, emerging every so often, but slowly more and more integrated into my every day life. When I was that age I had an image of myself that I wanted to achieve self harm to my eyes to eventually become who I wanted to be, so I stared into the sun with my right eye. I didnt do this for exceedingly long, although long enough to temporarily null out my central vision in this eye, and now its more photosensitive than my left but not really depreciated in any way. As I got older these ideas continued to float around my mind but I would attempt to suppress them due to the consequences of such an action. An alluring, forbidden fruit
of an life changing alteration that would constantly knock on my door. A pretty vicious demon, in hiding. They become more and more prevalent and its to the point where the thought easily crosses my mind in all serious consideration once a week now. The ethical implications of what I am suggesting are immense and there is no easy answer - either way I have to deal with some form of stigmatization or internal suffering. The only way to describe it is an intense feeling of a denied existence - an existence that I must sound crazy for feeling that way, but an intense feeling nonetheless.Reading online posts regarding this obsession of self harm of the eyes due to a conflicting self image result in extreme amounts of stigma, resulting in people almost acting as if blindness is death, or if the OP is really crazy or something. What an unfortunate view that sighted people truly have of you if they believe that blinding oneself is akin to suicide and that blindness is viewed
as the end of your life. Ive always viewed it as a different existence, not a lack of one. Perhaps thats why people act the way that they do. I wish I could change this, but I feel powerless. Alas.I cant really defend these feelings at all. If anyone wants to think Im totally insane or selfish, thats their problem, but the fears of others is something that makes me so afraid of myself. Ill be honest - Id rather give what I have to someone who lost it than just take it alone, and this, among fears of stigmatization, is what has prevented me in the past, and will likely cause me to continue. This obsession has made me aware of this honestly illogical way that people perceive blindness, and after meeting Kyle (the original blindie as I call him affectionately) I learned how to channel these frankly completely illogical wishes into a form of interest and understanding. This is why I affiliate myself with the community. But its
not a patch, since the problem simply grows. Im at the point that this patch can no longer hide the issue. I need to let it out.I try to externalize my feelings into a form of protection of the blind community. I cannot and will never be able to touch all bases in the community and I know there are some people who may not even like me, and well, just like anyone else thats honestly really to be expected. But I turn these feelings of incorrectness into a way to teach people and educate them, to absorb as much information as possible about your issues and to help show people of all different kinds on how to improve your lives. I know that Im only one person but if I can have even just one person understand then thats one person who has changed. But the disturbing trend is that I realized that people are not invested in this way of thinking. Im not asking them to take on my burdens, but they seem to play the well thats just sad
ot; treatment and forget about it. Its viewed as a pity and nothing else. Its very disappointing. I return to my blind friends to find solace. You all have been so wonderful to me. Im blessed to have such an

Re: Guess What! - Window-Eyes 9.0 Beta Discussion Thread

Bryant, Windows 10 is available for developers which is how A.I. Squared was able to get a copy. Not to mention prior to A.I. Squared and G.W. Micro merging G.W. Micro entered into a Window-Eyes for Office agreement which gave Window-Eyes some additional backing from Microsoft. So Im sure do to various agreements A.I. Squared was able to obtain a copy of Windows 10 prior to other screen reader developers.

questions on audiogame development

My vacation will be starting soon, and I was seriously considering developing a simple audiogame to put some of the concepts that I learnt in a programming module to practice, and it stops me from getting too rusty over the break. The idea that I had in mind would require full 3d sound though so Ill probably need to use HRTF. Ive been learning C for a few months and have grown pretty comfortable with it. Im trying to decide what language I should use to write the game in. I dont think I want to use BGT, and I see that c++ and c# are both based off C, so I hope that my prior C knowledge would allow me to pick either up. Those are probably the 2 languages that im inclined to try, but Im not sure how to decide between them. From what Ive heard, C++ is faster but more difficult to use than c# though im not sure how much that will matter for an audiogame. I think programmes in C# are also easier to reverse engineer. If
I decide not to use BGT, Ill also have to figure out which libraries to choose. What are the best libraries available for screen reader support and HRTF audio?
