Hi,I'm trying to figure out how to do serialization/deserialization in BGT. I've found 2 approaches to doing so: the built-in serialization methods in BGT, and using a user data class that someone on the BGT forum wrote in an attempt to automate the process. The user data class can be found at http://www.blastbay.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1433Which approach would be better? I have numerous classes (over 20 so far), and arrays that agrigate instances of different objects. Each object have primarily primitive types as data members, but some objects have more complex data members (e.g dictionaries).If I understand BGT's serialization functions correctly, I have to implement save and load methods for each class. I'm not too sure about how it'll work though. Would I have to store everything in 1 gigantic dictionary? Or is each object its own dictionary? Yep, it's obviously a time for gamebooks, though this one is available online over at The fighting fantasy project site This one looks particularly good. By a new gamebook author, Cian Gill, it's set in modern day New Orleans (as you might guess from the name), but with lots of voodoo curses, nasty monsters and generally unsettling writing, it even begins with you exploring the classic abandoned cabin in the swamp,  oh, and best of all from what I gather, not one erotic vampire to be seen .Play it here

Hi,The app I'm talking about is called tel manager, and it is designed to make it easier for us answering and ending calls. When you install the app and after that you get a call, the application, (tel manager) creates two buttons, one (the left) for answering and the right one for ending calls. It is a very nice application indeed.

@Mike, while it's true not all the newly released hosted games get reported by e-mail, this one was, sinse there was another announcement about steam at the time which I ignored due to Steam's horrible access, (anyone interested can read it on the cog website under their blog).I actually sometimes miss the new hosted games myself if they don't e-mail about them, I really should check the website more than I do.

Hi.The demo sounds quite exciting.I have a question, or rather a suggestion which a lot of people might not like. Regarding the price: When the online part is going to be payed, I would suggest something like 20 dollars instead. Why? Now, I don't remember the original price, was it 5 dollars or maybe 10 dollars? But, it feels like you are buying close to nothing, like a peace of candy and not a quallity product. It feels like you are buying a cheep product and don't expect much. If the price was 20 dollars, then you would really expect something from the product, you would expect updates in the future and people might be motivated to give a lot of suggestions, because they really wanna get something for their money. You as a team would get a lot more money if 50 gamers buy a licens for 20 dollars than for 5. @Firefly, other than in the Articles room for obvious reasons, topics are not that formal. Feel free to ask your coffee mud question here or in another topic if you wish. As we've manifestly mentioned coffee mud here it wouldn't be ot for this thread, though if you think it's an in depth enough question to require a dedicated topic you could do that too. Remember topics are there to help discussion not be a streight jacket, use or not as you wish, indeed it always amazes me how people don't want to create new topics (it's not as if they're a limited resource). Btw, I always thought coffee mud was a codebase rather than a complete game, sinse I recall lots of topics talking about coffee mud servers etc a while back. One question I do have which is pertinant to this topic, is what exactly counts as crafting? Materiamagica for example uses spell reagents to cast spells, which you often need to go and hunt down or gather, and als
 o has ship building and sailing. I wouldn't go so far as to call this "crafting" in the same way as something like Clok, but certainly it's not just the usual hack and hope, especially because mm has a huge and complex wilderness system meaning you need to go and search for what you need quite extensively.Personally, sinse my thing is exploration rather than crafting specifically, I really enjoy the gathering and hunting and wilderness wandering phases, but while I don't mind crafting something farely quickly as in Clok, I'd not want to stay in one place and craft all the time, especially if it requires huge amounts of resource management. When I was majorly playing core exiles (which has very extensive crafting even though it's a browser game not a mud), I tended to be a resource collection guy (which did include blowing up space pirates for loot as well as mining, refining, ship salvage, planetary and derelict exploring etc),  and get
  other people to do the actual building bit for me sinse I always found putting together all the resources and modules and subcomponents a bit of a chore. Then again that's one nice thing about Ce, lots of friendly players, or indeed players who don't mind doing crafts so long as you provide them the resources, indeed I made lots of in game cash selling the resources I got to crafters.

Yeah Figment, I actually thought the same thing when I bought mine, why ever the hell did I bother with the Iphone for music.The wireless you need to configure to specific networks. I have it setup, and have found classic fm, (my radio station of choice), but as I said generally podcasts are a thing i go and find online and either download or stream rather than something I specifically update to, and of course bookshare and bard don't exist over here (worst luck).

This update has crippled my Wi-fi features. I get service errors when attempting to access Bard. When it does load Bard results, items stay on the download queue for 3 or 4 minutes before partially downloading and failing. This is the same for podcasts. I really am not pleased with this update. I wonder if this is only for those users fortunate enough to have the new streams with the 5.9 GB of internal memory? I have the 2.6 GB internal version. I guess I'll be waiting until they come out with another update. Would someone mind sending a 4.4 UPG my way? I think these issues will go away if I downgrade.Overall, I am really not pleased. I wouldn't expect Humanware to do something like this. Then again, they're Humanware and most of their products are terrible. I thought the Stream was actually pretty good. I don't know now.

I noticed that AI's like to jump again and again on what they just climbed allot instead of moving forwards or backwards once they reach the top.It seems that sometimes items spawn a tile or two under the bridge, either that or they just aren't grabbable for some reason, but it gets fixed when you die...If possible, the information given to you should maybe go in this order when looking:Enemies, hazards such as fire or air, objects, regular tiles.Fire actually isn't currently shown anyway.Is it possible for objects to feel more natural when you move towards them while jumping?  Currently the left/right position and volume only updates when you land.I guess I just like the old camera because it lets you see the tile types ahead of you as fast as you want and changes dynamically, so it's good for jumping gaps quickly.This one is useful too though, it would just be nice to have both as an option.<

I guess you're right, the old camera would be useful. I also thought of another thing. We could pick up shields, armor, or both in order to reduce the damage of attacks. Unlike the defense stat in Ultrapower however, the armor and or shields wouldn't protect you permanently. After they are hit a number of times,, they break and you would have to find new ones to re-enable protection. This would be especially useful against grenades, which take off a huge amount of hp.Also using a keystroke to check stats would be much easier than using the /stats command. Assigning it to the tab key for example would work just fine, as it does in RTR.

Ok, I don't like ever log in and comment, but I think I should state my opinion on some posts  that I have recently come across. As blind people, we expect to be treated as much as possible like our sighted peers. We want to be treated like everyone else. So tell me, why do some feel the need to get mad when we have to pay for a game? Everyone else pays for their games. What makes us so special that some feel like we have the right to free games just because of the whole blind thing? You can't demand to be treated like your sighted peers only when it suits you. The sighted have their free games also and you don't see them pooping on a dev when they have to pay for a game. I've looked at some games, some of them can range around $60. I'm dating a sighted person and for birthdays and Christmases I buy him games witch is how I no for a fact they can cost so much money.The fact that the game is free, their is a free work around for the translation of the 
 game, but he is only asking $5.00 for a copy of the game with translation implemented in to it, well, he is being way more than kind. I have seen these complaints on a number of different games, for example, when it was announced that swamp was going to be payed. I no that that was a long time ago, but that is the only example I can think of off the top of my head. It goes like this, if we pay devs for their hard work, we will have more great games. We are not entitled to get everything free. Not much in this world is free. It is because of the few that arn't willing to pay devs and wine, bitch moan and complain that games arn't free is why we don't have more extensive games for the blind community. The people that make games for us work very hard on both the game, and interacting with us to make sure everything is running smoothly. For that, they deserve some cash in their pocket. So lets stop being winy consumers who feel entitled to free crap just because we are bl
 ind.Most of us are pretty good, we would be glad to pay for awesomeness, this is just for those who think hard work shouldn't be rewarded properly.That is all from me.

Yes, the AI's are a bit buggy when climbing, which I've been looking into but can't quite seem to figure out. Also, am aware of the invisible items bug, though stupidly enough this didn't really show up until release, so it was like well shoot, we got a massive problem.Yeah, I'll readd the camera for the next release then.

you know what, sam? reading maya's post i just thought that we realy need you to remake inventory and add weight to the stuff. that will make people to prepare for killing cause they will get tired fast if they have much stuff in their bags. and they won't be able to drop much on someone's head  besides they won't be killing people for geting things because they were hidden and players actualy don't have much. well, may be on the beginning stage. and i think you will always know if someone kills just for fun. and you will always have a reason to ban them to hell  actualy you know what i think about pk, but if we have that flag, then we have some problems if players finaly found the way to kill.

as long as you have app locale, you don't have to set the locale system to japanese. just add japanese keyboard (and make it U.S. if you don't plan to use the letters), grab nvda and instant translate, install both then set up the hotkey. everything should be working fine

I don't remember if it's 18-2 or 18-3, but in one of them, there are two turbulences with a very narrow space between them. You can't go up until you've passed the first one, but then you need to go up immediately. There isn't much room to back up, either. I can't really say more than that; the trickiest part was just timing it so that I start going up at just the right moment.

Dictionaries don't require the same type; that's arrays.I'm not sure if there's a better way of serializing multiple dictionaries than using multiple files. You could store the data in one file, using a separator string, but that string must not appear in the data at any point. Then you'd read the data and split it into a string array with string_split, then use a for loop to deserialize each dictionary.

All right, I am really irritated now. I downloaded the Heather and Ryan firmware you provided and installed it. I went and did a factory reset. Now, when I go to download podcasts, it says added to queue. When I press and hold pound, it says no downloads. When I go to the podcast and press pound, it says already queued. What the hell is going on here? I did get it to download once, but it got to around 42% and then it says no downloads. I really don't understand what's wrong here. All this crap started when I installed 4.6.4. I think I'm going to call Humanware tomorrow and ask about this. I am feeling really ticked off right now that I spent this much money on a product to only have the main wi-fi feature be crippled like this. Maybe this just goes to show I shouldn't buy anymore AT products, especially ones from Humanware. I also noticed that you gave me 4.4.8. What's new in 4.4.12 that came out in February of this year. I never could find release notes.

So far as I can tell, the serializations work only with primitives, either in dictionaries or with the user_data class. They're pretty useless if you want to save more complex objects, unless you can come up with a way to read and write the properties of those objects to a dictionary, at which point you're probably better off writing your own methods.

So if I wanted to store multiple arrays, each array could contain 0 to any number of objects, and each array has a different type of object, how would I go about doing it?The only thing I can come up with is to do the following:for each array, store its length. For example, a key called xObjects.length. Then for each array's elements, the key in the dictionary would be []. e.g xObjects[0], xObjects[1] ... xObjects[n-1]The only problem is that dictionaries only work if values are of the same type, so I think I'll need more dictionaries. How do I extend this scheme so that BGT can save multiple dictionaries?

Okay, I think this is a bug, but it could just be me.I'm trying to get the jump shoos.I completed 16-4, went to stage 6-3, and went all the way to the end.I got no sceens at all.I did fly all the way back and forth without the landing switch on, then did it with the switch on and nothing.Is there something I'm not doing?Also, I now have something called the super detector, but I have no idea what it does.Later!

IT's actually 2, 6, and 8 to enter diagnostics, not 2, 4, and 6. And yes, we'll send your suggestions to the product management team. Always the generic response. Flac support would be easy, considering flac is royalty-free unlike mp3. I don't like their newer version of acapela, since they now have dashes pronounced, which means my music folder which is categorized as track, a dash, then the song title, will pronounce the dashes, raather than nicely pause in between. And this may be an issue with this version of acapela, but some words, particularly artists names like shinedown, would be pronounced correctly in 4.4, but not anymore in 4.6. Weird. I like that they finally brought radio recording in, though.

Hello folks. Just passing to make a quick update on the game's current state. We didn't give up on the project, instead we're almost rebuilding the game from scratch for we had some cool ideas based on the valuable feedback you gave us. Regarding the next test, I can not tell you for sure when will it happen, but we'll try to make it available during all the day. Thanks, to interact with door I need to press f button.I can not past first hapter, I am at building with some cameras or movies where some guy says somethink as this place is innormous.I can not find the next door, sometimes is hard to know, that I am in front the door or wall, because some doors are opened after tapping action button twice or more, it have to be holded sometimes.Sometimes character is walking in circle when I am using home button, and you can be lost, but it is amazing and playable and I want to beat this game.

What a crappy bug! Do I have to be killed each time I enter the game? That's happening a bit after I started my journey, and an ennemy with a laser appeared and killed me. And now I just die each time I launch single player. Seems like I'll have to continue playing BK3 until this bug got fix,  just joking! Keep it up!

No, I dont need help with this.I think that encountering a bug in 7.1, with misterious abacuses, but really, for the first time.What's happened?Climed with magical hook, entered password, opened the door.Spent a few minutes beating 5 abacuses.They hurts me a lot, but I used some energy drinks to recover my health.After all abacuses destroyed, One left in the room for pick up.I picked it up, and, stage not ended.Walked around, no doors, no any items for pick up.Somewhere about fields between 46 and 49, I could here that something falling from time to time, I centered it wait, but nothing came across, nothing offended or falled near me. I pressed discontinue this level, game saved, without my energy drinks.Game counted that I spent those drinks, but, misterious abacus disapeered from my items.Is this a bug or, I did something wrong?

@Blademan: Debian Sid AMD64 running natively (no virtualisation, no dual-boot). It was quite an involved procedure, actually. What I ended up doing was setting up an environment in BIOS mode on an external USB stick, booting from the stick, and then using it to fetch and install onto the internal SSDs (two of them, in RAID0) with debootstrap in the Mac's native EFI mode. This was necessary because I didn't have a 64-bit Linux image that was accessible handy. If I were doing it now, the first step would be to image my existing Linux VM onto the stick, then use that to install onto the internal drive. Sadly, the current Debian installers still don't know how to install in EFI mode directly onto Macs; Macs have some very strange behaviour. But you can follow some steps to do it by hand. I can assure you this was a multi-day project, and now that said machine is my default gateway, one I'm reluctant to repeat.

Oh i didn't know that bgt dictionaries allowed mapping of string keys to arbitrary values. The string separation approach sounds risky, because if the serialized data has that string at any point, things will go very wrong.I think it allowing different types for values would solve my problem. The key in the dictionary would just be the name of the array, followed by its length and indices. Thanks for the help

However, I can tell you that you will have to manually download the firmware that contains your choice of TTS voice; if you do an update you will probably just get your existing languages (UK English Graham and Rachel).I'm with Figment on Wi-Fi; turn it on and leave it on and you can have notifications whenever updates become available or your favourite podcast updates. There is "Airplane" mode, for when you are actually on one, or want to save the power. It's also possible to just subscribe to Humanware's newsletter, which is how I got wind of this.Dark, I dunno if you've investigated the online features much, but the podcatcher has an integrated ooTunes client, so you could always try searching for your favourite podcast that way. Urban reign is also a kind of a RPG game. You have to level up different parts of the body which can be damaged, and if you can remember the order in the upgrade menu, you have full control over what you upgrade. You can even tell how many points you have left, and you will know when you have something fully upgraded.

@Sebby, the speed thing is still the same, altering speed alters playback and interface voice speed. I've not bothered messing with the language packs as yet, though I suppose installing the Us and Australian voices might be nice sinse Graham and Rachel both sound as though they're stoned,  especially graham methinks, though Rachel I can live with well enough to read file names etc. I tried the youtubes podcatcher thing, but had trouble finding a couple of things I was interested in such as the sf series escape pod and the horror psudopod, I also think I might have made a mistake sinse with escape pod the victor tried to download pretty much the entire thing which is hge!I really should sort the url posting with the companion thing again, I suspect the error was only a temporary problem.

Hi. Something is causing problems with the mushz installer. Specifically. Mushz refuses to start, lagging in the task manager and not even allowing the computer to shut down, because the system can't stop the process of the installer. Looks like neither of the other installers are capable of starting either. Neither the updater, nor the light installer.If there'd be a fix for the problem. I'd be happy.

It takes much of its engine from Sam tupy's STW, which includes the map engine, the game mechanics, and I would even argue the inventory system, which also takes elements from Swamp as well. Many voices also come from Swamp. The most important contribution from Swamp however is the leveling system and the use of safe zones, which can be used to buy weapons and heal characters. Finally, RTR gave the game much of its inspiration, even Mason credited Ghorthalon for giving him the proper name for the genre of the game. So you can see how Ultrapower is really a few games blended into one mishmash.

Hi Mason,Just curious, were you planning to transition from Ultrapower to Scrolling Battles Pro online mode? It's remarkable how fast this seems to have been developed, unless I got the wrong idea. I know the amount of complaints many players had about Ultrapower and the demo of SBP sounds like a major improvement over Ultrapower. IN fact, this is what I would've wanted to happen to Ultrapower in the first place, but you are developing SBP now instead, which doesn't really matter. It's not the title, but the game play that counts, so I almost think of SBP 1.0 as a new version of Ultrapower that has been totally redesigned and given a whole new title.

Hi brad. Curse does definitely do stuff, it causes your enemies to miss more often and reduces their damage.The demo finishes after floor 7, ie, you get a congratulations message and are returned to the main menu with your score. I believe when you get the full version and activate it, so long as you have a save file you can continue from that save point on down from floor 7 down to floor 25, but I'm not certain sinse I haven't played with the demo for a very long while. Either way I shouldn't worry too much about your characters, the art to Entombed, and much of the fun is learning to see what character races and classes you get and using them as best you can, and sinse the full version has more than twice the number of races and classes that means far more combinations and more fun,  and anyway, the demo should only take you a couple of hours to finish, where as the full version is obviously much longer (and far harder).

I'm back.Just gonna say that I'm gonna stop with patches and skip ahead to 1.3 (there are too many updates). I somehow managed to recreate a simplified version of the new sound engine in the old one so clues now aren't beeps, and even better, I got permission from SunSpire (the composer) to edit his sound effects so now there are many new ones for the clues. So far there are 34 new sound effects and I'm still not done. Also finally acquired some headphones.Later I'll post an OGG of how it sounds (I want to add some important clue first). At least now I can recognize each region easily even without stereo. Not sure how accurate it sounds to a blind person (who is more trained to subtle hints) but I hope it'll be playable now.

We sure have instant translate, else we couldn't play BK2 and 3! But I'm understanding Nuno's problem about  the game because I'm having it too. The strange thing is when I add the Japanese keyboard, BK3 stops connecting to the server, and BK1's problem still persists, so I prefer having one trouble instead of two! ! The problem is that I get an error whenever launching BK1. Nothing, even the intro, worked since the game needs a certain component which, just I don't know!The Japanese keyboard will make me have 4 keyboards and will make me lose myself when doing my work as a translator

Ok, after a lot of thinking, I've decided to post a link to my play through recording of The gate. I've recorded the entire gameplay, though keep in mind that I was chatting in my native language (croatian) to describe the game objects and enemies to people living in Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Slovenia. I will hopefully rerecord it in english, but I think this croatian review will be useful at least for those who know how to play and they just need to get tricks on how to beat certain challenges. The Bk1 installer (at least the one I have, 1.12) is missing some files it needs to run.Create a folder in bk1 named data, and copy these files from bk3's data into it:ScreenReaderApi.dll, nvdaControllerClient.dll, dolapi.dll and SAAPI32.dll.If you're using NVDA and get stuck at the player name screen, press NVDA+f2 then enter. I have an add-on to fix this which I wrote for the text games which have the same issue.
