Hi.This is sad news indeed, but I'm glad you will work on the other games. I'm also glad that you don't take all the critics extremely offensive, because that's not really what people mean to do. I mean, people won't offend you personally, which is a very important thing to remember.You can be proud of having made your first release. What is the reason for taking it off the stores when it's free and you will continue the development of other games in the future? Does it cost you extra to have Goldgun in the app store?Keep up the awesome job guys.

Re: Updated includes for BGT (includes bgt2py and 1st person sound pool)

Yeah, everything in math would be global. In that case, you'd either need a function for each vector, or to use some data structure to store multiples, like a dictionary or an array. Multiple functions would probably be easier, since BGT's dictionaries are kinda awful.I have stored vectors in dictionaries before, using functions to get and set so I don't have to deal with all of that mess. This also made it possible to serialize / deserialize the data for saving / loading. I still wouldn't recommend it in general.

Re: why bgt dont continus

Hmm, the only thing that makes a text editor in BGT ambitious is that it doesn't come with a GUI library, so you have to write one yourself. Which, as it turns out, is the work of a weekend. Friday afternoon to get it working, Saturday to fix the bugs and features you missed, Sunday to do the same for whoever you corner on Skype/Teamtalk.I find it interesting that people insist that sound is easy with these other libraries. It's so easy, in fact, that I still haven't gotten any of them to work.Someone did write BGT wrappers for Bass and Fmodex, so I suppose just doing that with ctypes should work. Judging by the mile-long tracebacks pyfmodex generates, it's bound to be easier that way.Looking at examples, Visual / VPython is astoundingly simple, as 3d graphics go. So, naturally, I can't get it to work, either. Probably something to do with screwing up the camra? It's not made for hyper realistic graphics, though. But no one codes that from scratch, since they can see to use Unity / Unreal / various other programs that turn it into a drag-and-drop affair, enabling colleges to offer game design courses that do not require any programming. ... I'ma headbutt the floor until the world starts making sense.

Re: Future of GoldGun: Production discontinued

This is a dark moment for this community. One of the worst things we could have done. We go after each other all the time but when you look at things in the grand space of time, it really doesn't matter. What we did this time was probably the worst persecution I can remember. Did these guys make a mistake, yes. Did they need to become aware of it, yes. Did they deserve what we did to them, an emphatic no.I think there are lessons to go around. On our end though, imagine if all the energy that was built by frustration was put into education and awareness, maybe this stereotype wouldn't exist anymore. Maybe the tired old narrative and cliches we have pushed upon us wouldn't exist.I'll never be someone to sugar coat things. I'll never be someone to cover up the truth or tell white little lies to spare feelings, but this went beyond all that. I'm not proud of my part in this to say the least, even though it definitely wasn't my intention to cause this, or even be party to the cause of this. I simply posted without reading the rest of the topic, a mistake on my part. I think everyone who had harsh words for this game should think on how they could have dealt with the situation a bit better. Again, I do not dispute that the developers should be aware that they're perpetuating stereotypes against us, but more important is how we say something, than what we say.I don't think the criticisms were the entire reason the project has been suspended, but they could play a fairly substantial role. It is highly discouraging to read so much negativity on something you've spent a lot of time working on. That should be another take away from all this, for every project, there are people who work to bring it forth. So while constructive criticism is fine, blatant overbearing destructive criticism is not. There were points raised that were constructive, I'm not trying to undermine that fact, but I urge everyone who responded in not such a courteous way to think about the impact their choices will have, and I will do the same.

Re: Future of GoldGun: Production discontinued

I'm genuinely sorry to hear this. I'd really love for you to succeed. Please learn from what happened here so that your other games can succeed. That doesn't just mean reviewing the coding and development process, but I'm sure you have learned plenty from a financial point of view, a marketing point of view and many others.In defence of this forum, criticism of any kind can feel harsh. But a lot of what was said was fair, even if the way it was said wasn't perfect at times. If you step into a space - any space you aren't familiar with - and want to represent that culture, you have to be sensitive to it; you have to spend as much time trying to understand it as you do developing your game. Either that or you ensure that the people who are from that culture are as much a part of the development process as you are. Preferably both.I say all of this at the risk of our own first project nearing completion. And I would hope that I can hold any of Blind Sparrow's projects up to the same scrutiny.You clearly have the passion. You have potential. Your world may feel like it took a massive blow, but I'd say everyone here is still wanting you to succeed. Don't give up; be imbued with the wisdom of what happened and renewed hope.And, please, feel free to DM me via Twitter for that Skype call we never had.

Re: Absolute truth, the testament of truth.

See, that's the thing about me. I can still appreciate J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis even though they're right-ish. I don't feel the need to persecute someone for their affiliations in that regard. King is a liberal (not a socialist, a democrat) but he's a good horror writer, some would say a great horror writer. Why not let that stand on its own? He supports people being taught to read and being educated. He supports taxing the rich more because they frankly have more to give. He supports better control of guns because of America's ridiculous gun-violence numbers (sorry, folks, stats don't lie). And he puts his money where his mouth is and will back himself up. I dunno. I guess I don't see enough reason to dislike him over that. The same way I can say that Lewis or Tolkien were good writers (Tolkien especially) even if I dislike the heavy-handedness of Christian symbology in the Narnia septet.

I only used the one I had through my high school for KNFB reader, and I now have that on my phone, but this version of android, at least on Samsung devices, isn't as bad as others I've tried. I just wish, since it does use a mainstream operating system as its base, we should be allowed to use a regular onscreen keyboard, not just braille. That makes about as much sense as selling a laptop with no bottom half.

So, this is caused when braces do not match, or braces are not where they should be.  Keep in mind that BGT needs no brace if there is only one action to be performed based on a condition check.  Like so:if(A > 0)A *= B;However, braces are needed if there is more than one action to be performed after a given check, like so:if(A > 0){A *= B;B += C;A = C;}In this case, you had braces in places you didn't need them, and so the compiler wasn't pleased.  I removed the unnecessary braces.  I also corrected another error that I saw.  Keep in mind that the alert function takes two parameters, so if you want to just give a message without a dialog name, use quotes with a comma, then the string of test you want to actually say, like so:alert("", "This is a test.");However, the compiler is not pleased with your line where you declare menu items in the string array.  It wants an identifier there instead of the string constant it sees.  I prefer to use the dynamic menu, and that is done differently.  The code with the braces and alert calls fixed is as follows:void main(){show_game_window("Game_alpha");speak("Hello");string text="Welcome To this game. Please choose an option from the below menu";string[] items="Play game","Explore the grid","exit";r=new_menu(text, items, 0);if(r==0)play_game();else if(r==1)explore_grid();else if(r==2)exit();}void play_game(){int answer = question("Question", "would you like to read the game  info and rules??");if(answer==0)alert("Let's try that again.");if(answer==1)alert("", "Loading...");if(answer==2)alert("", "All right then. Continuing to game...");}void explore_grid(){//Code for this function goes here.}

Re: The Wonders of Netflix

@flackersI agree. I don't think it matters that much what sighted people think about audio description of any kind. (recorded or synthetic) Not that they don't have a right to use it, but it's not really a service that was designed with them in mind. most experiences you would probably find with the sighted and audio description would be how to turn it off if they activate it by accident somehow. (which is an impressive thing to do) That's mostly what I find when I look up information about accessibility in mainstream products. When my sister turns it on by accident, it's fascinating for a moment, but she thinks it's kind of creepy. (her words, not mine) As far as the scene in Halloween goes, with scenes like that, it would be great to know about all of the details that make it so incredible, but I guess I can handle a music score with no dialog and general descriptions of what's happening. (until someone comes up with a way to portray that in a short amount of time) I wasn't really thinking of it as a replacement either. Just an alternative that would be easier to create. Thanks for the tip about YouDescribe. It sounds familiar, but I'll check it out again.

Re: The Wonders of Netflix

I can't see computer-generated audio description happening any time soon. There are just too many things in a film, and audio describers have to skilfully choose what to describe. Many programs have to be fact-checked ("Who is this character?", "What is this object called?", "Where is this scene taking place?"). Movie scripts are generally written in very vague language with the director and actors deciding exactly how actors will perform the scene.Most new content is described either immediately after the footage has been edited or just before it is released to movie cinemas or broadcast on TV, so there shouldn't be a very long wait to get the audio description.

Re: why bgt dont continus

Ride is a great concept, but the execution leaves a bit to be desired. It's a talking text editor that lets you navigate indent code accessibly by expanding and colapsoing indents (ctrl+alt+right to expand, left to collapse.) Problem is I think it was made in BGT, and while for fun games with it aren't much of a problem, trying to make a text editor in it is, well, a bit too ambitious for the engine to handle. Notpad Plus Plus is open source so someone could easily put indent nav in there too. Even with NVDA indent navigation beeps, part of the point of indents is to make the code easier to navigate because sighted people can zero in on a particular section, or scroll the major sections of code without looking at each line. Having expand/collapse for indents gives a blind person that same advantage, I just think the actual text editor would have more potential if it were either written in another language, or if it were a Notepad Plus Plus respin.

I think it's fair to ask you this though. AS long as it holds no extra financial burden to do so, can you at least keep the original on the app stores so people can play for as long as the thing is still supported on their hardware? Some, like me, actually enjoyed the game and would hate to lose it. With Android, you can backup apps (even unrooted if you are willing to read a cataloged directory listing.) On IOS, that process is very difficult and often impossible.

You'd get far, far better hardware specs and probably better performance, and if something fucked up, you'd have to fix only the component part rather than being in a truly cornered market.I feel like there's something stupidly obvious that I'm missing, so I'd appreciate it if someone could enlighten me here.Unless braille displays usually cost over four grand, that is?

Re: Absolute truth, the testament of truth.

Yup, exactly, and I'm with you there. Maybe god can't stop murder, rape, arson and all the other wonderful things human beings visit upon one another, but it could sure as hell stop random disease. Or, y'know, the way sometimes whole communities starve because they can't find food, or suffer chronic dehydration because they have no water? That's not an issue of choice, either.I had a friend of mine once say that if we should view any sort of god as an all-knowing, all-knowing creator, it's a lot like ascribing to god the qualities of a good parent. So let's run down a really brief checklist of things that parents do, and see where he falls:Provides for the needs of his children: noShelters his children from things which would hurt them: noAbuses his children with things they can't fight back against: yesPasses the buck and all responsibility when bad things happen to his children: yesSets up scapegoats to dodge culpability: yesSeeks constant validation from his children about how wonderful and supportive he is: yesProvides an emotionally fulfilling environment for his children: sometimesGives reasons for the things that happen in life, as teachable moments: noThreatens his children (in some versions of the paradigm) with dire repercussions if they fail to follow his edicts: yesGives arbitrary judgments which hurt his children: yesThat...isn't exhaustive, but surely it paints a picture. This guy is not the sort of fellow I want to entrust my mental health to, much less my daily happiness. No thank you.All that having been said, everyone's picture of the divine is different, and there are people out there who believe that god sort of set the universe going and then decided to sit back and watch...that if he exists, he's relatively impersonal, akin to a sociologist observing an experiment impassively. I can't argue with that theory half as much, because it presupposes that he's keeping his hands off very deliberately in order to see how things go. It's where people start characterizing their god figure as all-loving that I really run into issues. It's a charming, palatable fiction meant to stop you from thinking, is all.

A general transcription? There are close to 500 pages, including the tables and character sheets, is there any formatting preference? A single document per page or all of them in a single document? Any preference for graphical elements like pictures? They could be translated into something more readable with Brushtone for example, or maybe an ascii representation? It would be a bit more straight forward with a single document per page for indexing, though some pages cut sentences between them.

Re: The Wonders of Netflix

I've been asking this question since voiceover started reading subtitles.When I brought this up on applevis in the many subtitle threads people weren't too keen with the idea.Most blind people don't like text to speech description.I really couldn't care less, as long as we can get content described in a timely manner.I brought up the whole subtitle description to netflix once, but I swear that chat felt like I was talking to a robot.All they said was they will pass on my request.There is a website, opensubtitles.org, where they have subtitles for stuff up within hours, but I guess it is a lot easier to transcribe spoken dialog.Take a look at a service called you describe, they describe youtube videos, they even have an app.I really don't know why something like this hasn't taken off. I mean, some of the described content have horrible mixing, with the volume turned down quite a lot just to describe something.What we need is something like opensubtitles.org, but for description content.I don't see this as a replacement, much like audiobooks verses ebooks, it'll just be an alternative option.This would be very handy when watching something with family or friends because you can read from a braille desplay, assuming you can read fast enough, not to mention the deaf/blind would benefit from it as well.I just had a listen to a bit of fastest car, it's actually not that bad, I mean, you have to put up with the TTS voice they use, which sounds like the tutorial voice they use in feer.For me, it's tolerable.

Re: New Text-based Roguelike For IOS and Android: Path Of Adventure

OK, I hope I posted it properly. This should be the link https://forum.audiogames.net/post/410967/#p410967I titled it Unofficial Rogues Adventuring Guide to the Path of Adventure. I hope you can find it. I also had just a couple of ideas for game improvements. What does everyone think about a heading for artifacts, and a landmark heading at the very bottom of the screen. I've also been playing around with the different characters, and I find the exp loss for warriors to be annoying, and somewhat against the mentality of the warrior class. As well, I think it actually makes warrior more difficult than Assassin. I was thinking to balance it out the Warrior and rogue classes should get exp for 1 hit kills, but the Assassin would not get the exp for a one hit kill. To give a better difficulty progression to the game.I was also thinking that maybe the  Assassin should get the sword of flame, so all three artifact weapons would be associated with one of the higher classes. Assassin would make sense as master of shadows playing with flame. Also, it would really be something to have the powerful weapon early, but know that using it will likely cost you exp.These are just some ideas, the game is really great already. I hope people like the guide.

If the majority of visually impaired people hate the idea of TTS description, fair enough,but we don't need to worry about what the sighted think of it. They may show a bit of curiosity, but movies contain so much beauty and other types of visual information that they're never going to wave that in favour of a few seconds of audio description. They want to look at the beautiful people and the spectacular cinematography. Even a scene like in Halloween for instance, where the psycho is purposefully walking knife in hand across the street towards the babysitter while she struggles to find her house keys. The blankness of his creepy mask, and how close he gets before she finally gets indoors and slams the door is so menacing, and is most effective visually. Sighted people just aren't going to willingly deprive themselves of that kind of stimulation.

Long pressing on a letter, or rather keeping a finger on it for a longer period allows you to type special characters. I am not sure what it does in English, but for example in other languages long pressing a could give you a with accent and so on. In settings you can adjust the delay, basically how much you hold your finger on a key before it recognises it as a long press.

The Unofficial Rogues Adventuring Guide to the Path of Adventure

2019-02-10 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Articles Room : Benf via Audiogames-reflector

The Unofficial Rogues Adventuring Guide to the Path of Adventure

After finding yourself on another strange path you wander through the wilderness and discover:The unofficial Rogues guide to adventuring, The Path of AdventureRogue: starting HP: 15 Defense: 1 Attack: 1 Speed: 1Experience: you will gain 2 exp for killing a monster, but you get no exp if you kill them in one hit. If the monster runs away you will get 1 exp but no treasure, and running away grants you nothing but your life.  Elixirs of Growth:You will get the first elixir at 5 exp, the next elixir at 10 exp, the third elixir at 14 exp, the fourth elixir at 17 exp, the fifth elixir at 19 exp, and after that each new elixir will cost an additional 1 exp, so elixir 6 costs 20 and elixir 7 costs 21.   Use the first elixir to increase your health. With a health of 20 you will heal 2 points a day, and this adds up very quickly.The second elixir is usually best spent on speed. It helps to hit fast enemies, and will give you a dodge chance, especially in the beginning of the game. It’s better to take a hit with a 25% dodge than to block with a rusty dagger, or even a sword. This will save damage on your weapon.After that focus on Attack, defense, or speed depending on whether you are going up against the Giant, Dragon, or Hydra Respectively, and depending on what artifacts you have by that point in the game. Getting speed over 3 on elixirs alone is near impossible. Unless you neglect attack and defense.Somewhere along the way you may also want to increase your life total to 25. It wont aid the healing on the path, but it will make the healing potions more effective, and you will gain more life when using elixirs to improve other stats, for this reason I’d say this could be elixir 3 or 4. Expect to get about 5-6 elixirs throughout the entire game. Putting 2 into your health leaves you with 3-4 for other stats.  At least one of those should go to speed, and if you’re lucky you might have 3 left for more speed, attack or defence depending on your artifacts.Increasing life to 30 may even be a better idea than increasing defense. You will heal 3 points a day, and take more damage in more situations, but this really depends on what you have going on by that point in the game. Durability:This is one of the most important aspects of the game. You can only carry 4 weapons, and they wear out.There are basically 2 points in each category, so a brand new weapon has a total of 10 points of durability. Hitting an enemy lowers the durability by one. Misses don’t lower the durability, and a sharpening stone restores three points of damage.If you have two of the same weapon beat on one till it is breaking and then start in on the other one. Save the breaking weapon for a wraith, or when you need to use it. Although you may want to spread the damage around a bit, reduce one of the weapons to scratched, then start in on the other one. If you have to use a sharpening stone you will get all three durability points. If you have a weapon at the higher end of good shape it will only increase by 2 points because Brand New 2 is the highest durability rating.When to use elixirs, and other itemsSave your items until you absolutely need them. Although it is tempting to drink that heal potion as soon as your life hits 2, but you really should wait. You may get enough experience for an elixir in the meantime. Then when you need to heal you will get the stat boost, and have your healing potion for later in the game. If you are poisoned but have an elixir in your possession, wait until your life is at 1 or you encounter an enemy before drinking the elixir. If you encounter another snake tunnel you will get through and still have the elixir. If you drink the elixir when you are poisoned but still have 5 life and then encounter a snake tunnel, or poisin trap in the next room, you’d better hope you have an antidote. Even so, if you had saved your elixir, you would have the antidote for later.I only use elixirs when I absolutely have to, like if my life is low and I’m about to go into a fight. I have had two in my inventory, but never three, although it is now a personal goal, and always use elixirs before healing potions. The reason for this is, not only do you heal fully, but the stat boost will mean that in one way or another you will be needing to heal less.  You can access the inventory any time you are not engaged in battle. For instance, when you first notice a kobold on the path, but before you hit the fight button. In this way you can never be fully surprised.Use this to full advantage. If you have 6 life left and a monster part in your inventory you can eat it before hitting the fight button, and encounter the kobold with 11 life instead. Use monster parts out of battle and save potions for in battle where possible. Use a heal potion if it is the only thing you have and could save your life, but use up monster parts first. For instance, if you are about to go into a

@pitermachBraille support wasn't something that I considered, but your right. On top of that, being able to customize the voice used would be a nice addition as well. Add in not having to mess around with rights/contracts and it seems like a nice concept to consider at least. Descriptions for new films could be made available a lot sooner and without so much hassle. As far as the amount of emotion goes, that's never really where my attention is. I just want to know what’s going on that isn’t portrayed through dialog. Of course, it comes down to personal preference, but I’ll take synthetic speech for a wider variety of films over more natural speech for a limited selection. I wonder how insane it would be to compile several texts of a film's plot from different sources and use natural language processing to develop an audio description script? That wouldn't cover the timing though, plus the plot summaries would have to be very detailed and accurate. Speech recognition to detect specific lines for timing? Might be more trouble than it's worth. You can find movie scripts online at least, but it might be easier to just have someone do it themselves. Combine the two ideas somehow?

@15, post contributions you've made? OK... let's assume for a moment that post count and user karma count for something. (I don't believe they actually do mean anything these days.) If that were the case, I would have made far, far more contributions than you have. Ironcross has, by that metric. Defender has, again, by that metric. It just seems like your posting in a topic just to metaphorically here yourself. A flake is a crazy or eccentric person. (That's literally the exact text from the dictionary, too.) I haven't spoken to Mason in a few years but I've seen his games. I was very, very disappointed with tomb hunter and the actions that I considered disgraceful to the original developer that were committed upon it. I was never really impressed with scrolling battles, 2D platformer and so on. I haven't played most of his "latest" games but judging by the evidence given by others (other than you) I'd classify that most definitely as flakey. Even I'm not that shakey with projects.

You can find virtual machines in various places. One is www.grossgang.comBut it depends on what operating system you want to virtualize. You can actually just load an ISO of something into the player, but some of the files that you can download from the above website are preconfigured with a screenreader so you may want to go that route. Unless you want to make a virtual machine of an OS that has a built-in screenreader that can be activated during setup, such as windows 10. Let me know if that helped.

Re: Absolute truth, the testament of truth.

Sadly, Ethin, I have an answer for that one. And that's why I kept away from it. Most religious people will tell you that wars and subjugation are the result of people giving in to sin, or listening to the devil, or whatever else. God, or whatever deity you subscribe to, gives you free will so that you can do good or harm as you see fit. Without that free will, your good deeds wouldn't matter as such, because you wouldn't have the freedom to do harm. so that part is going to explode in your face if you go toe to toe with a religious person.No. The reason I used the cancer thing in particular is because it's just a disease. It's a weird random thing that strikes down the innocent and the guilty, the young and the old, the high and the low alike, without prejudice or consideration. My example of a trans woman was actually not a great one in this regard, since whoever beat and killed her were, according to religious philosophy, simply giving in to their inner darkness, or to the malign influence of an outside source that is not godly. But the point is, bad things happen to innocent people all the time. You'd sort of think that if some sort of deity figure really did love every one of us, he'd get rid of things like cancer and other disease, since they serve absolutely no benefit whatsoever. And don't anyone give me any bullshit about population control, either, since that's a whole other kettle of fish.There's actually a really lovely and poignant quote from Stephen King on the subject. We say "I don't understand" and God replies, "I don't care". It's from the Green Mile, and I am probably partially misquoting it, but I've got the thrust of it, anyway. God, or those who believe in a god, want us to believe that he/she/it does things for a reason, but provides no proof. They want us to believe that their creator is benevolent and has our best interests in mind, so the creator deserves credit for all the good things and a hand-wave and a rueful shrug when things don't go so well through no fault of the victim or victims. I'm sorry, but I'm not buying what you're selling there.And I'm really, really not buying it where it comes to mental health.

He just goes back and forth from one thing to another, and then it took him two years to make Tomb Hunter, which I was all in favor of until I realized it just wasn't that good. Call things what they are, don't sugar coat them, the guy is a flake, and not to be trusted. Oh, that's not to say I think he'll intentionally rip you off, though I did buy a $5 access to SBP online and it got taken down a week later, which I was extremely annoyed about.I don't want to kick a man when he's down, and don't appreciate those motives being ascribed to my actions. There's just so much you can do for someone who refuses to help themselves.

@9, good questions. What about the wars countries fight every day. What about the countless lives being lost because of countries going to war with each other, or leaderships (i.e. North Korea) punishing people with death, shaming of peoples generations, and so on. If a creator loves us so much, why would he allow such things? And don't give me "its for free will" either -- that completely eradicates the illusion that he does actually love us at all. I'd think that if a god loves those who they create, they'd do their best to prevent the people they create from completely destroying themselves.

Re: Future of GoldGun: Production discontinued

As for the game, I know this is probably not the primary reason for tabling the project, but you folks who got offended need to realize how much an effect your words have on a developer, whether they have a thick skin or not. If they get negative press, that's demotivational. The degree of demotivation is determined by how much they can take, but 1 they shouldn't have to take destructive criticism, and 2 it doesn't matter when you're not just the talk of the town, rather the talk of the internet. Let that sink in.

Are people really complaining about posting in old topics still? Just let it go and let people post where they want. I don't want 100 topics about the same thing that would suck! People were complaining about bringing back the Perilous Hearts topic and instead of having a nice conversation about it there were lots of people wining about the topic being brought back. Re: Future of GoldGun: Production discontinued

Yeah, I would say it's quite unfortunate it had to go on hiatus for now. And I'm not going to suggest a free/no-cost solution someone suggested the r/record this for freesubreddit, and a lot of folks use fiver as it is, admittedly, a budget-friendly solution, but it's a forced budget-friendly solution. I feel, if used right, it can actually yield some pretty good results (the new Brutus actor who also voiced the credits role came from Fiver, and that guy being from the US, he played the part very well (often more sarcastic than manically insane, but still a good result.) Those are the kind of people who will hopefully move on to bigger and better lines of work, as Fiver is generally an insult to the true creators. It's a good starting point, but the fact that you are practically forced to charge $5 and don't even get $5 for your troubles since Fiver takes a cut, leaves a lot to be desired. What I'd like to see is this kind of thing just embedding itself into something like voices.com, where the signup to that site isn't as intimidating as it's made out to be, and there's a low-cost starting point that hobbiests can hop onto. Then, once they've gotten more wide recognition, they don't have to switch platforms and aren't limited to the creator-unfriendly nature of Fiver. On the other end of the spectrum, I've seen Fiver abused before; someone released a station playlist controller/automation machine program that they used on their radio station, and charge a little under 200bucks for it. But it was programmed by, get ready, a person on a freelance community called Fiver, and they only get a one-time payment of 4 bucks from that customer who is now probably happily making off with his own brand new software selling multiple copies for $200 a piece, or something. Is it legal? Yes, but not ethical in the least.I'll get back on topic in the next post, but my point really is it's hard to find budget-friendly voice acting, but it also can be said that a lot more work could be done to bridge the gap between the budget-friendly community and the pros.

Re: I need help, again!

2019-02-10 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : magurp244 via Audiogames-reflector

Re: I need help, again!

This has to deal with name spacing, variables made in a function live and die in that function unless passed to an outside source, so global or return functions are usually required. With return functions its more about deciding under what conditions you want to return and to perform the operations you want before hand, it might be a bit tricky in some cases, but you can always get results. There is another way to go about this though, and thats with classes. In a class, a variable can be treated as a global internally to that class, and it can have its own internal functions for manipulating that data, which can make them very useful. For example:class example(object):
 def __init__(self):
  self.index = 0
 def addtoindex(self):
  self.index += 1
 def addto(self,data):
  data += 1

box = example()
box.addtoindex()
box.addto(box.index)This class treats index as a global within itself and has two functions, addtoindex() and addto(). Addtoindex() does a simple operation on self.index and those changes are retained because self.index exists outside that function, but with addto() you'll notice we don't use the "self" prefix anywhere, so the variable data is created and dies within that function since its not being returned anywhere. You can also access the index variable externally with the name of the class and the name of the variable, like the variable we pass to addto() on the last line of the example. So, going with your resource list idea, here's an example of what that might look like:class example(object):
 def __init__(self):
  self.index = 0
  self.resource = ['wood','rock','iron','grain']
 def addtoindex(self):
  self.index += 1
 def inventory(self):
  print(self.resource[self.index])

box = example()
box.addtoindex()
box.inventory()

Re: why bgt dont continus

Which is my exact point.  Let's say someone has the desire to make a game as a hobby, just because.  Sure, they've got the intellectual ability to learn a programming language.  But for a game that's not complex, one that's not going to involve complex maps with all sorts of layered things, hundreds of items, enemies, and other stuff, I can see the appeal of using BGT for no other reason than not having to deal with all the fucking ridiculous bullshit just to play sound, let alone getting it to move and the like.  The person wants to make a game as a hobby, they aren't doing it for profit.  So rather than stressing themselves out banging their head against the wall while trying to get a few sounds to play correctly to the point that they lose the enjoyment of the project, they choose to use BGT, since the game isn't a complex one.  I'm currently developing a game, and am doing so in BGT, and yes, I've considered porting the code to a different language, but for the amount of complexity involved, it's not worth the headache of sound management to me.  I know of several solid games that were created with BGT, so this theory that absolutely nothing worth anything can be developed with it is false.  Games with ultra complex sound schemes, world maps, enemy and item behaviors, etc., should be done in another language, I agree.  But for a game that doesn't require that, I see no problem with someone creating it in BGT, and I won't assume that just because a game was made with BGT, it will be nothing more than a total failure or a piece of detritus.
