Re: Audo, endless racing game Thanks @ogomez92 for checking out the source and your kind words!Synthesis is super cool and I love its expressiveness. With it we can build dynamic systems, musical or not, that respond to player input and react to emergent situations. Being able to achieve that with code is more or less surreal.I think part of the future of audio games (and game audio in general) is a return to form. As hardware improves over time, synthesis will approach a simulacra that will eventually surpass recorded sound. This includes speech synthesis. Obviously it won't truly replace voice actors or recording engineers, but it will give devs more options and save us some disk space.Earlier someone mentioned that they don't enjoy the sound design here for its 8-bit simplicity. It's a fair criticism. While I agree that Audo doesn't do much toward realism, the fact that a game like Audo can be built with synthesizers is a good proof of concept for the possibilities to come. I'd love to play more games that do this but better. Eventually its engine will be ready to share and I'll warmly invite you to make your own.That said, something cool about the changes under the hood with this update is that I've upgraded its engine from 2D to 3D. It doesn't change Audo at all, but creating 3D experiences is much easier. For example, with S.E.A. I honestly hacked together its 3D movement on top of the old 2D engine. When I upgrade it, its sound design and movement physics will be a lot closer to reality. However, that will take more time as it's a much larger overhaul than this patch. No using one attack in Manamon 2 and just spamming the enter and arrow keys and just going on and on until you fall asleep. No. In Dissidia, you bring down your opponent's defense, BRV in game, to do much more damage with HP attacks. You bring down defends with BRV attacks, while trying to avoid your defense being brought down to zero. You do this with close, mid, and long range attacks, and you can block and dodge these same three kinds of attacks, all with different effects, like wall rush, basically being slammed against the wall for even *more* damage, or chase, where you enter a mode where you're chasing or being chased through the air, delivering BRV attacks, and dodging your opponents in a boppit style thing with also some guessing involved, and then you're able to also finish the chase with an HP attack! So you can widdle away at your opponent's defense, then deliver a big amount of damage at the end! But the chase doesn't go on forever, the opponent can hit a wall, or hit the ground.You also can get ex-cores, and our opponent can get them too. So when one appears, you have to chase the opponent for them! And this allows you to build up your ex-gauge, and when full, enter ex-mode, where your attacks are more powerful for a time, and you can perform an ex-burst, an ultimate attack that can finish your opponent... or not. Your opponent can block some of it if you have enough ... BRV or ex-gauge, can't remember which, and if you don't have the auto-ex-burst skill, you have to do a quicktime event thing.So yeah, very active, very engaging, and very fun! I mean, in Dissidia, even grinding story mode or quick battle is fun! In Manamon 2, it's just boring to me. I hope it's already fixed though. It's like a visual novel or choose your own adventure sort of thing. PPSSPP games which could be played using OCR are just as playable, pretty much. Use AltStore for installing of course. You can launch games saved on iPhone storage from the files app with latest 1.10.3 PPSSPP version. FFRK is more accessible in some areas. You don't have that much money, so you decide to get an Android phone. So you get a Google Pixel because updates and gotta have labels accessibility API's so your screen reader is worth using. Yes, it doesn't come with TalkBack! For us who are blind but not deaf, that's fine. But for those who are deaf-blind, that means using an assistant that much more. This is a huge slap in the face for people who are deaf-blind, and thera re more that I'll get into. So you have to have TalkBack enabled, and install BrailleBack, set up the display through Bluetooth, and then set it up to be used in Brailleack settings. At least in iOS, there's just one place you go to set up braille, and it just takes that one setup process.next, there's no way of muting just TalkBack speech or sounds. Yes, you can *work around this* by turning down the volume. Sure. But that's a sorry excuse for bad user experience and design. I don't give a freaking crap what anyone else says, what excuses they give to all-mighty Google who can do no wrong, that is very poor and very unprofessional. This means that a deaf-blind user will have to keep their phone muted, or, as told to me by a Google employee, "just plug a pair of headphones in." That's stupid. That's another slap in the face. And that's why i believe that no blind people should use Android because of their mistreatment of braille users.Next, the commands. I'll put forth here that I used BrailleBack with a Vario Ultra 20 braille display. This *is* supported by BrailleBack. The commands are very non-standard. It's like they didn't look at any previous system for braille entry besides BRLTTY, which is just as non-standard. Space with L goes to the top of the screen in just about every other system, even in iOS. What does it do in BrailleBack? It opens Learn Mode. Okay, I could get used to that I suppose. But there are commands like pressing up on the navigation stick and pressing a dot that's rather awkward to press.Next we have the fact that you cannot read Google Books with it. I don't think you can even read Kindle books with it. Even if you can read Kindle books, Google books is the thing you'll look at first probably, as it's the thing installed. All you can do is have Google TTS read the book to you. You can't even read the thing with TalkBack. I may be wrong here, but for Deaf-blind people, who cannot hear, text matters, a lot, and not having access to a built-in service is just another nail in the coffin. Even for me, as a blind person with mild hearing loss only, when I have headaches, I can't stand hearing much of anything, but I can read a bit. So being able to just sit in my rocking chair with a book reading on the braille display, it's very freeing. Also, I can concentrate on materials far better with braille. So if I'm reading a book on programming, I *need* to have the ability to read that in braille. Also again, there's the fact that you can't mute speech. So, if I want to listen to music and read silently, nope. The accessibility volume helps, yes, definitely. But what if I then want to check text messages with speech? i'd have to turn the volume back up again.Now, typing. Reading Braille is wonderful, but typing it is even more freeing when using a touch screen device. You have to set BrailleBack's keyboard as default, as it can't just interact with the text field itself through system methods or anything, it needs its own keyboard. That's just one more step you have to go through to set it up. Compare that to iOS, where it acts just like any other modern screen reader. Just pair and go!Now, listen. A couple more BK3 questions. Hi all. So I'm stuck, again. I've gotten to 24:3. In the BK3 guide I read: "Each box once destroyed leaves behind a dial that can be set from 0 to 9. The number on the paper is from top to bottom. So drop down the gap, if you jump and keep moving you'll explode, so don't try that."I assume this is the gap at 2 right where you show up, because if I jump it and keep going, eventually I do explode. But if I step off and just drop down, I die every time I hit the ground. What am I missing?Also, how do you get to the bonus shops, do I have to finish the game first, or do they show up when you beat 24:3? I see from the guide, and Liam mentions it in his playthroughs, that the spirit sword is really good if you crank its level up. But it's only available in one of the bonus shops. It happened far more several years ago, but then for lack of better terminology I grew out of them. For the most part I stopped getting as wrapped up in individual HP fics and replaced them with books. So when I recommend HP fics these days, I either haven't read them or I have fond memories of them that I fear might not hold up if I reread them.As I said in my post, I hadn't read Learning to Breathe, and I figured I wouldn't read it. I have other books i'm meaning to read, and I hadn't thought about Learning to Breathe at all since I'd recommended it; it was just something I had remembered from other recommendation threads that would probably fulfill a request someone else had. But then I saw Jimmy's recommendation and I figured why not? It's only 150k, worst case scenario I just stop reading a few chapters in or I waste 3 hours reading to an unsatisfactory conclusion considering that the story isn't complete. It turned out to be the first HP fic that I can really remember pulling me in and not letting me go in at least 7 months if not much longer.Usually when I read a fanfic, I have to make at least one concession. That's primarily why I stopped reading them. Does the fic have good writing? Well then it probably has shit character development or it's really cliched. Does the fic have good character development? Maybe it sacrifices some of the development time they should've spent on the minimal worldbuilding required for fanfiction, and the setting really sucks for one reason or another. This fic picks a few things to do, and it does them well. It has a reasonably tight plot, avoids using most really dumb cliches that I can think of (I can only read so much fucking evil Dumbledore OMG), and very nice character development and motivations. And YMMV I suppose, but I thought the writing flowed very naturally when it needed to. I usually like to read longer stuff, but this fic is great even though it's shorter (ish) because the author didn't try to drag it out. I can think of many ways the fic could've been made terrible if it was extended to 300 or 400k. So I'll rate it a 9/10 personally. It is very clear that you actually know something, which is really nice to see. It seems to be becoming a lost art these days. One thing I will tell you, and this isn't to side with the crazies before now, but it is just a little correction, along with a little defense on one of the things you said. So, it pretty much has been confirmed that Chinese apps are known for sending data back to their parent companies, which can very well get distributed. This is one of the main reasons for the TikTok shut down. Although that also has to do with the fact that the U.S. and China are in a pissing match and need to look like they have big balls by doing shit to hurt the other. But that is a whole other story that should be saved for another time. TikTok has been called out by numerous sources, including those at the government level as being guilty of data stealing. And it is even true when you look at their privacy and terms of use policies. And truth is, we don't know what other Chinese-made apps are doing the same thing. However, this is where I defend you. Truth is, U.S. based companies also take a shit load of data when you sign up. Think about it. Amazon, facebook, snapchat, and on and on and on. When you sign up for apps like that, you are running the risk of giving your information to somebody and you don't know what they are going to do with it, whether they are from the U.S., China, or god damn Germany. You get what I am saying though. Data collection happens everywhere. So yeah, why make a big deal out of these things when we have no idea what in the world is going on. Just to be clear, I was not just speaking to the writer of post 77, but to everyone that decides to read this in the future. I don't know what you want to take out of this, but I hope you find this a little informative. What I will say to close out is that, it is your decision on whether you decide to trust these companies with your information. So whether you decide to trust it, or decide to say screw you and spit in the companies' faces, can we just not have pointless arguments over the whole thing. Btw, nice to know there are buffalo in Africa.I've now started peace talks by Jim Butcher, and actually I'm enjoying it, albeit it's still got the annoying problems that the series has, Dresden's constant complaining, and soap opera confrontations, also now Dresden looking like now getting yet another! destined power, just so he can kick the rear of yet another evil faction. I'm actually a wee bit disappointed, the amount of build up the outsiders have had in the series, and now it turns out Dresden has some anti outsider magic and can just take on thirteen of them in a fight and win? Then again I'm only part way through at the moment (just finished chapter twelve), so maybe things get worse later, we're already getting problems upon problems piled on Dresden's head. I will say as a plus though, it's finally nice to see Dresden's daughter actually behaving like a child with a personality not just something Dresden has to randomlly save, as well as the thing with Murphy actually looking like it's going somewhere, though of course all of that will depend upon how the rest of the book goes. In other news, I've had a slightly bad week, and just to magnify things it looks like corona virus is coming back, or rather that the numbers are rising again, which of course has nothing to do with the government's hole push to get people to eat out and go and buy cars and go to pubs and what not, honest! Bloody morons! Still more lovely lockdown time for Mrs. Dark and I, especially since we have an increase in local cases as well as nationally, then again, at least nothing changes and I still have the zombies to keep me fit .I've been playing incremental adventures and a couple of other games, but I have to say I'm a little disappointed, not much in terms of story or interest other than numbers getting bigger, and not that many new unlocks or mechanics that don't feel like old ones, as compared to say hells night which was bloody awesome and I'd recommend, though on the plus side dead fright looks like it will be fun. My thinking is, a person who can code together a screen reader is probably clever enough to figure out all the points that were made here. So one wonders why he doesn't make good on those points. Perhaps he can't. Perhaps he doesn't want to. Only he can answer that, and mindlessly squabbling about it here is not going to get anyone anywhere. Just like Nuno I'd invite anyone to just ...go to the dev and ask. He is in the Telegram group, which you can join in the time it takes for someone to type up a post in this thread, so I fail to see where the issue lies there. The language barrier is a thing but then, so's Google Translate.- Speaking of Google, I thought this was common knowledge but evidently it is not. Google and China aren't exactly the best of friends in a lot of ways. Censure is a serious problem, and a lot of services we take for granted here have Chinese counterparts that dominate the market, probably by design. That includes Google Search, Facebook, PayPal, the works. So it really isn't much of a stretch for me to understand that getting a Chinese app that needs a bunch of permissions to do it's thing onto the Play Store might not be as simple as all that, especially if your English is poor.- I love how people rant and rave about the so-called 10MB that gets sent to China. I do know that often, chinese audiogames that have been advertised here are distributed through filesharing websites, rather than the dev's own website. One has to wonder why that is.I also know that one party is offering that CSR is not safe, and another party is offering that it is. Truth is that we don't know either way as end users,but then the same is true for a lot of apps we use everyday. Aira says they don't record us, but do we trust Aira? Yes. Why, because they are a US-based company? That sounds almost racist.And then I know there may, or may not, be a large upload of data when you activate your license. What I know about Jieshuo license activation is that you give your user ID in the form to pay for the license, which is about 15 bucks for a year by the way, which you can do from another device, and that some time within 24 hours your license gets activated. One has to wonder when this big block of data is sent, how it was captured if the timing isn't previously known, and what was in it. Hardware components need less and less energie to function, and the SE is a low budget phone, so you can't expect it to have a freaking 3000 MA batterie inside.Greetings Moritz.
