Suggestions for Wayfar 1444 relaunch welcome

Hi blind friends.I am going to relaunch the original Wayfar 1444 for reference purposes as I refactor it to a more modern codebase.  During this time I will open the original Wayfar server so that you can play on it.  However the purpose here will be to modernize the codes in a new engine.  Since I have made a few friends (and more than a few enemies) in the blind community, I would like to open this topic for discussion on the ways the MUD could be improved for blind players.I am very interested in which aspects of the game you found helpful, for blind players, and anything that was a problem for you.  I'm also interested in any features you found especially helpful.  I will check this thread regularly to see your feedback.Thanks,Hawgpadre

@28 yeah, it might be called that in some places. There was a big problem in my country with this spice stuff, it was completely legal for a few years and stores started to spring up all over the country. In those few years, many people were hospitalized and some even died because of that stuff. It was really cheap and the store owners were selling to kids aswell. Weed is illegal aswell overhere but there is an initiative to make it legal, let's hope it succeeds. Right now, I know kids as young as 12 that smoke spice and it's really bad for them, they are addicted to it and it fucks up their lives. The dealers sell to anyone, they only care about the money. If weed would be legal though, I am sure that shit will slowly disappear because there wont be any need for it. Spice is much more popular than weed because I think it's much easier to smuggle than weed, you only have to buy some substances from china and spray plant material with it, you can even do it online and most of these substances are specifically made to be legal. Weed though, it is smuggled but very rarely because there's a high risc involved and is usually much more expensive. Many people buy spice because it's price is about half or even less than a gram of weed.

I owned a braille Monopoly set as early as 1996.There are online versions of Monopoly to be found in both the RS Games and QuentinC platform. Both work, and appear to be bug-free.

i've got like 54 defense, and the turrets still do like 10 12 dmage, each time they hit me, sure jumping works, but there getting hits. and the droans, take like 1 damage, and that adds up. lol.

No, I have not found a movelist. But if you do, please share... I'd love to look at it!@12, the sound design has definitely improved leaps and bounds. I was super sad when I found out xrd still used the same sounds from older games with only minor updates. But I definitely like the way this one is... but don't think I have the hang of the combo system yet. Things don't seem to chain as easily as they did in older games. And yes, it would be awesome to fight each other.

Hi. So today I found this game on tunmi13.ddns.net and it sounded pretty interesting, also the included tutorial did. But when I run it what ever I do after a few seconds there comes this python error box that always happens when a traceback occurs. I used the 2> command to get some info about the traceback. Here is the trailer. The beta actually has a similar segment in English. Before every match, the announcer's intro shpeel is in English. So there's currently no conirmed dub.. but it definitely wouldn't hurt to have one. I know a lot of people especially here will base their decisions to buy the game on if there is a dub or not. Completely makes sense, seeing as the story is just cutscenes without even any fighting. Important to note though, the last game, XRD Revelator did not have a dub. Here is the trailer. The beta actually has a similar segment in English. Before every match, the announcer's intro shpeel is in English. So there's currently no conirmed dub.. but it definitely wouldn't hurt to have one. I know a lot of people especially here will base their decisions to buy the game on if there is a dub or not. Completely makes sense, seeing as the story is just cutscenes without even any fighting. Important to note though, the last game, XRD Revelator did not have a dub. Microsoft have ramped up aggressive blocking of automated emails in the past year, I've seen messages on forums that say the forum cannot send email to hotmail/outlook addresses anymore, and nothing can be done about it. I'm not sure what's the problem is, but I think these steps may help you, in my opinion at least: First: bring the setup file of NVDA, that the file you downloaded from NVAccess in to a folder or directly to your c or d drive so you can access it without a screen reader.Second, turn your temporary VDA on, and go to control  panel, programs and features and remove NVDA on your computer as normal, and restart your computer. This is where your NVDA in the first step comes in. Go to your drive without a speech, and run the NVDA setup there. Install as normal and see if the problem gone, hope I helped. Sorry for my poor english.

@azureI'm sorry but your opinion just isn't backed up by science.Weed can be a big issue if overused just like eating candy or playing games, because it is mentally addictive if not physically so.  But when the problem is serious, it is usually because the person is abusing it do to underlying problems they have in their life, where as with something chemically addictive, they could be doing just fine mentally and emotionally, but still get powerful cravings which could lead them back down that path.Weed addiction is an effect, not a cause.  And while buying weed can also put you in contact with other, harder drugs, that isn't the fault of the plant, but how it is distributed.It can also be laced with other drugs if the supplier isn't above board (illegalization practically guarantees this) or potentially cause underlying problems like schizophrenia in a small amount of the population; particularly men in their 20s.I won't pretend we understand everything about it, but the fact is that when it's legal and used responsibly, it's almost never a problem.And remember, just because something is illegal, doesn't mean it's actually wrong.  Laws aren't morals and vice versa.  I would encourage you to look into the politics behind demonizing weed in the U.S (allot of official documents have been unsealed since the beginning of the war on drugs) because I would not be surprised if it's for similar reasons as in your country.I had to learn that just because I may not think it's a good idea, doesn't mean that other people can't handle it better.  For instance, I'll probably never take shrooms, because I really don't think I have the right mindset to not have a bad trip.  For those who can however...  I shouldn't judge them based on my limitations.Look at it objectively and you will also find many more harmful things that society doesn't as a whole take as seriously, such as how much sugar we have hidden in our diets these days, how much heavier our cars are getting, even how we treat our beds.  It's really a double standard based on nothing but fear and perception if you think about it...

@mentalhome.euI really enjoyed Feer and so did my friends, but the consensus was that the large majority of the achievements in that game were too easy.So while based on the previous game's quality I'll probably still play this one regardless, I do hope that if you use achievements/unlocks again, they are more challenging and unique this time.

Fellow forumights, this project seems interesting. From what I am reading, here is what I've gathered.This game is sort of a soundscape explorer, but also more than that. The blog mentions challenges, such as in the jungle Island, if you make too much noise you attract a lion. The aim is to go to each island/soundscape, and come back with treasure.It also appears this game has a sort of creation element, as it seems we'll be able to make islands then attack each other, however not directly, it's more a gold fest, not a player killing fest.

The dual currency thing really isn't that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. After all even the Twin Falls city and the few other Idaho cities Luke and company will explore are part of a fictionalized version of Earth where a few people are aware of and practice magic, so it's not entirely out of place that they might use gold as the currency. Heck, even some of the shops will sell medieval style weapons like axes, bows and swords and things.

@17, unfortunately, most people will not list controls for games anymore simply because controls can be changed based on what you like, so they'll just list the attacks each button is supposed to represent. But you might find them somewhere. I also think most people wil assume that anyone who plays fighting games does so using either a fiht stick, or a controller.

A Hero's Call passes text to a speech thread, which in turn calls the SAPI or Tolk APIs so that the main game thread never has to wait.I did that because SAPI was laggy, but if I recall correctly it was in terms of single digit milliseconds, not half a second, so you may want to debug it more to see if there is something else you can fix.You are passing the async flag when speaking text, right?As I look at that code I also see a comment I left myself about passing null instead of an empty string when using the PurgeBeforeSpeak flag to cancel speech without having something new to speak.I was getting big delays when passing that flag and passing an empty string instead of null, though NULL is probably the obvious choice if you are in C/C++.This was all using the SPVoice COM object through C#, and tested on Windows 7, not Windows 10.Hope some of that is helpful to you.

Hi,@Mohamed, yes, as Brian said the current build of Sable is still using BGT. For a slightly more detailed response to this check out my reply to Jayjay below.@threeblacknoises, thanks again for answering so well another one of Brian’s questions. One thing I would follow up on and also agree with what you are saying, is from a coding perspective and how I’ve set up event triggers it would be really simple to add something like this, such a small addition would probably only take about ten or so really basic lines of code to set up. As you mentioned though for the moment my focus is more on Bringing Sable up to as I mentioned previously its gold standard of stability and completeness , getting Crimson Eclipse finished and released. After all of that, hopefully we’ll get a public Sable release and then at that stage I’ll look at what additions still need to go in, or what would be simple to add or what the community most wants to see added.@ Jay jay, sadly one of the restrictions is that the current build of Sable is written in BGT, which prevents coding in something  like what you have suggested. This is one of the reasons I’m trying to ensure that features I add in will benefit the most people possible  or be as flexible as possible to allow them to be used in a variety of different ways. Regarding the BGT thing, the current build of Sable is just really a prototype, the purpose of this was so that we could get a feel for whether a set of tools like Sable was something the audio games community wanted,. If its successful we want to build a second generation of Sable, which will be written in a full programming language, and therefore offer much more flexibility. Another advantage of creating a prototype first was that its given us a great opportunity to gather feedback from the community for what they liked, what they didn’t like and what people want to see done differently. Hi. @Lem, you've probably been bombarded with questions about scripting and so on, but to add to that, I was wondering perhaps, if it would be possible to put out a sort of API, possibly avilable to people who paid for it. with this API, then people would be able to code mods and addons to Sable, so people would be able to fully enjoy the functionality of Sable, and being able to depend on 3rd party addons folks made to help enrich the both the development and ganeplaying experience. Like for example, instead of you having to put aside time to code in some randon thing, developers with time to spare can create their own mods to the engine. NBot sure  how plausable it would be, but would be interesting none the less. 918, I think captures the importance of being able to script

SAPI seems to be laggy

I'm on Windows 10 and any SAPI voices that I use sometimes block the program for maybe half a second before or while they're speaking. The only games where this doesn't seem to be happening are Entombed and A Hero's Call.Is there any way I can stop this happening for my own programs? Maybe there's a flag I can pass to the SPVoice Speak method or something?

I really thought the collision tutorial from a while back proved the point.  Apparently not.  Sigh.Threads are bad because if you use threads and you're even remotely new to programming, you've just taken your one problem, namely it being slow, and added a second one, namely being buggy.  It took me something like 2 or 3 years to be competent at using threads and, at work, we've got a bunch of threading experts and the code reviews for threading stuff are always the most painful regardless of who wrote it. Just don't.  Learn how to not write slow algorithms first.

ok, I got that to work, but I am running into another problem.Either the YouTube interface has changed since the writing of this article, or I am doing something wrong. When I go to my dashboard as the article instructs, I see nothing about a streaming key. I did try to click on the go live button and it says it might take my account 24 hours to get activated for live streaming. Does this apply to OBS?

The golden cursor file is not as necessary as the preferences file, because you can fairly easily re-create it and customize something which will work better anyway.The latest download is found from this link. This is a stable release and has my accessibility work, such as it is. The preferences file is downloadable from here. This should be copied into the Forge folder in the Windows appdata folder, or the mac equivalent.Finally, the Golden Cursor file is here on my Dropbox. I don't promise it will work for people who aren't running 1920x1080 screen resolutions, and I really recommend just creating one which will work for yourself.Hope this helps.

@Meatbag please stop going around telling new programmers that python is slow. python is plenty fast for a project like this. I'm not even a huge fan of python for application development, but I know for a fact that it can handle 90% of audio games out there, including this idea.others have tried to point out to you that python isn't the problem, but rather the algorithms and data structures used. if you don't use them well, then your program will be slow even if you programmed it with raw assembly, let alone C/C++.I don't want this to sound mean. I think you are probably very young, so it isn't your fault you don't know much about reasoning about space and time complexity in programs. however, you don't understand that the language/runtime isn't the problem when developing an audiogame like this, it is that you don't know how to write performant code. going around posting don't use python because it is slow, when others have pointed out to you multiple times that it is not the isssue is really unhelpful to other new programmers
