Re: 13 Sentinels guide, feedback and discussion

No. I figured that out on my own, which I'll atmid took extremely long time.I pushed the stick upwards for like 30 seconds to make sure I was at the top, and then I started to count the presses until I heard a target click. Then I did the same with the bottom part of the target screen, and afterwards the left and right sides. The cursor moves slowly which is kind of difficult to describe. But because of the slow movement, you might miss the target.

Re: How do I get started composing music with reaper

I suggested importing a wav file because it seems more reliable to me. I don't know if the new OSARA keymap uses ctrl-m for the metronome, I haven't updated yet, so when I tried it, it didn't work. For me anyway, it's shift-ctrl-m. That having been said, when I used that, I did hear the metronome when I hit space. So I guess if you don't have a wav file laying around or inserting one just takes up too much of your time, yep, the metronome works too.

Also I just thought about this. If you use the technique I do (sleeve your cards, then label your sleeves), you can play paper magic (or pokemon, Etc.) If there are enough people interested, we could start a voice chat group (telegram, discord, Etc.) where we could play TCG's in paper over the internet. A blind commander discord server sounds fun, actually. You can buy Kaldheim commander decks on Card Kingdom right now.

Indeed, in the short run, the impact will be even greater since, thanks to the lockdown, the majority of people are facing much larger income shocks—in many cases, especially in the informal sector, they have lost their jobs. That is the reason why migrant workers thronged the borders in tens of thousands, desperate to go home; with no money coming in, how were they to afford the higher costs of the city? That is why, apart from humanitarian reasons, the home ministry did well to lift the ban on inter-state travel, which will now allow migrant workers to go home. The ban was ill-conceived, but one that several people—including this writer—initially supported due to the fear that migrants going back home in tens of thousands would spread the novel coronavirus in rural areas as well. With more quarantine facilities being built and a ramp-up in testing facilities—it is better than in the past, but still inadequate—allowing them to go back may not be as fraught with danger.Plus, many of the developing countries are struggling with digitization. When it was imposed in March in our country, I used to here, children were not responding to the questions given to them, they used to leave the meetings, they used to give 2 common excuse, network issues, feeling well. I don't know how it happened, but the environment where I study, was really good. Well, games for android or ios I just cannot play right, tried to make them work with more emulators, hell, even my sighted software guru pal of mine tried it, we just never managed to make them normally playable for PC.So since my desktop PC is all what I have for games and internet connection, please suggest me only games made for it.Plus, I must admit I am still not too adept with my NVDA, what means, the more screen reader accessible, the more NVDA-friendly the game is, the better for me.For example, since I like fantasy card-battle type games too, I recently bought Slay The Spyre on Steam, but needed lots of help of one of my blind collegues to adjust its settings, to make it work easily enough for me.Knowing how unaccessible Steam itself is by default, I was always trying to avoid games running on it since my vision loss...this is why I fear a bit to download Sound Strider for example, namely, I noticed its only offered download is on Steam. As for Seedship, I tried it out earlier, it's a too short and simple game for my taste, sorry, featuring no true planet exploration anyway.4x4 Galaxy I will try for sure, with only 16 planets it is probably a not too long game either, and I aim for long ones, hopefully even endless, infinite ones, but it may  still serve well to provide fun to me for some time.Oh btw, Survive The Wild seems to overcome that earlier orientation issueI mentioned here, so now I can play it properly, without issues again, at least until my Avast finds and deletes its .exe file again, pheww.

Re: Help with map creation please?

@11They do use a limited color palette, but seem to make up for it with complex light shaders for a stylistic approach. Its a style that seems similar to games like Witch it!, or Sea of Thieves, but i'm not sure those use voxels. Basically solid colors for parts of characters, with lighting to add different dynamic tones. For the most part though no, you don't usually see voxels used much, or at least you wouldn't think so. Actually, I remember talking to a guy once who mentioned that Command & Conquer: Tiberium Sun actually used voxels for a number of its mechanical units, which was really surprising. I'd figured they were 2D snapshots of 3D models like with Starcraft, but no, full voxels. Its kind of weird the mishmash of different rendering elements people shoehorn together sometimes, but in a lot of ways its more about style and implementation. Games like BaBa Is You, Stardew Valley, Shovel Knight, etc. are pretty popular with their classical looks and gameplay. Anyway, voxels wouldn't really have any differences over other options like polygons in terms of audio, I do know there were minecraft mods though that implemented reverb, occlusion, etc. so it can be done. Again, really depends on what people have in mind, either in term's of structure or style implementation.

I agree with all of these suggestions except floral ray. The exponential increases in flowers would probably mean that it would be too op without being able to be blocked by natural mistrust. All of the other cards on the list scale a lot slower.

Re: People who live in the US, what schools for the blind are the best?

Some of you guys really need to start paying attention to the difference between a classic blind school and a training center which uses the structured discovery method and has blind teachers. The former is common, mostly long term, and usually damaging if not paired with mainstreaming.  The latter is something you do as a teen or adult for around 9 months to a year typically and can be very useful, though of course it isn't going to be perfect either and the intensity isn't for everyone. These skills can be gained on your own but it can take years for most people, so having a head start is really helpful.  And the intensive nature of programs like this (while stressful) is better than getting bits of training at various levels of quality here and there when going to a public school.Sadly though, programs like this are very rare, and most of the world doesn't even know what structured discovery is.  I only know of 5 in the states, and one in Canada which isn't quite as good.  There could be more, but it's extremely hard to find them. This doesn't mean that if a program doesn't use structured discovery or blind teachers it's pointless (there are definitely some high quality traditional classes) but it's really hard to sort the wheat from the chaff if you haven't experienced multiple different types of training before and know what to look for.

dan_c: You can go with the Auto button, that taps mana for you, but when you play with two or more colors it is oftenly useful to tap it yourself to be sure that you'll be using the sources you want to. If you have, for example, Forest, Forest, and Stomping Ground (a green/red land), and you have two cards in hand, one costing {1}{G} and the other costing {R}, you will want to use the Forests for the first, and leave the Stomping Grounds to generate the R. Most times, however, you can just hit Auto and go ahead.zenothrax: Pauper and Commander can be much cheaper, of course, but Arena is one of the most honest free to play games I've ever played. My wife is sighted and she plays there and interacts with the screen for me so I can play too (currently I'm on ranking Platinum 3 this season). To build some competitive decks you will spend some money or a lot of time, sure, but to build your first strong, competitive deck it takes around one month of play and perhaps five dollars to buy the very valuable Welcome Bundle. To dive into competitions you will surely need to spend a lot of cash, but to play and have a lot of fun you just need the time to do it. And accessibility, of course, it would be just amazing to play Arena on my own. Until then, Forge is serving me alright.By the way, you can all go to the Wizards of the Coast's Magic the Gathering website, click on contact and send a request for screen reader accessibility on Arena. It begins with requests.

Re: Help with map creation please?

@10The changelog says Meor is using 6-bit color as of 2 days ago, and was 5 bit color before that.  Unless you have info I don't, that's pretty bad.I really feel like when we discuss this stuff, people just don't understand the difference.  It's so easy to forget what it was like to see, or to have never seen in the first place, and to just go "well there's a little bit left between thing a and the state of the art so thing a must be pretty good".  But in this case it's voxels which are still in their infancy save for some niche applications, or literally drag and drop into Unity and it looks almost as good as real life with 0 lines of code.It really depends what you want to do I guess, but if the goal is to try to be competitive with sighted games, be competitive where you have a chance, and don't try to bite off a technology that doesn't really fully exist yet.  There's tons of room there without having to hobble yourself to look indie forever, or to have to jump on the bandwagon of trying to push forward niche tech without being able to see what you're doing.I'm not surprised there's older games using voxels.  Voxels are easy and back when triangle meshes didn't scale, why not take easy?  But there are a lot of fundamental limitations.  Yes, people are working on it, as I said.  Nvidia puts out a new thing every so often, usually to do with lighting computations.  But it'll be a while yet before they compete with traditional approaches, if they ever do; given that all the toolchains make traditional approaches stupid easy, there's little motivation to push the state of the art.  There are advantages to voxels--I'm aware of that--but "can't easily display a curve" and "order of magnitude more storage requirement" are some really big downsides that, as of the last time I looked into this, no one had really solved yet.

A number of games did, and in some cases do still use tiling in some form, for example Wrath Of Earth released in 1995. Its just they may not necessarily be as renowned or obvious in their architecture, Legend of GrimRock also comes to mind. Voxel technology also goes to a much finer resolution than that of minecraft and has for some time, it just seems to be a bit of a misconception when people seem to hear the word. NovaLogic was known for releasing a number of voxel based games, such as Comanche: Maximum Overkill, or Delta Force 2+. Same with Looking Glass Studios with TerraNova: Strike Force Centauri. Modern voxel engines can give some impressive fidelity, like the recent [Meor] on itch. Of course, getting that level of detail takes some work in itself as one might expect, but it can also depend on stylistic choices. For the most part, if your going for greater fidelity, ignore audiocraft. Most of the voxel stuff people do these days would indeed be with GPU based shaders and renderers. I'm not actually sure it would provide better acoustic support vs regular polygonal meshes though.

Re: Corona Virus: is it the beginning of the end?

But that doesn't change the fact  that a drug/vaccene using this technology was never tested on humans prior to covid. You can sit down and run a bunch of simulations on a program, but until you actually  test something out on people, what it does is hypothetical and speculative. Medical fuckups are plentiful when you look enough. Take fluoroquinolone antibiotics for example. Scientists were overjoyed in the 90s when they  figured out that a cancer chemotherapy drug class could double as an antibiotic. It was all good until major perminent disabling side effects got reported more and more, and more than 20 years later, it became known that the antibiotics actually affected human DNA replication, and made perminent changes to the mitocondria. Oops? So now, you can google ffluoroquinolone associated disability, or toxicicity and you will find dozens and dozens of sources, both news and scientific papers that document all the effects of these drugs. And the result? More and more severe side effects keep being discovered, and all but 2 of the drugs were pulled from the market, and the two that wern't pulled have like 5 black box warnings on them, and multiple warnings that they should only be used when all other options have been exhausted, and still it isn't known how the toxic effects occur. I wouldn't be surprised if those two get pulled too.

Re: Help with map creation please?

@4By the time of Doom, sighted games no longer used tiles, which puts the end of that around 1993.  In Doom's case, there was actual collision accounting for height as I recall, but what they did for the map was a relatively complicated thing with sectors, all of which could have height and things like that assigned. It would actually theoretically be possible to do accessible Doom, and simpler than audioquake, though by 1995 games were pretty much going full speed ahead to full triangle meshes, so the window there wasn't very big.Prior to doom, e.g. Wolfenstein I'm pretty sure, the world was tiles still, but with a first person perspective.  They couldn't fake height much if at all because you can't really do that much with raycasting on a 1980s-era CPU.Audiogames have it easier because there's less to be accurate about--you can fudge the edges of it, kind of.  But in general I have yet to be convinced this is a good idea.  The UX problems with it are enormous and as far as I'm aware no one has really solved them.@7The problem with voxels is that the level of graphics you get is minecraft.  If you want a graphical game that's not just shelling it out to someone else, I'd stick to 2d stuff, and refine that.  The graphics you get out of voxels are worse than the Nintendo 64 by miles, but 2D games are still very popular and even if you're using tiles the limit of the graphical quality you can get with it is the quality of the artist rather than a technical constraint.  "Here is my voxel RPG" will currently alienate way more people than "here is my 2d sidescroller" unless you have some amazing story and gameplay for the ages that goes and wins all the awards.  Practically speaking, it won't help audio engines and the people who are saying otherwise are primarily doing sighted person "we don't use our ears" hype.  At least for now; ask back in 5 years.  I kind of expect that in the next decade we'll just have the physics engines doing audio too, but that's not where we are yet.  I have a whole rant about Resonance--Resonance made me very angry--because all the sighted raycasting/raytracing stuff maps to fewer parameters than even Synthizer has currently and they just throw out all the interesting stuff because a sighted person won't ever hear more than "this is a big room".there's some really new stuff coming out of Nvidia for voxel quality so--again, ask back in 5 years.  But the storage constraints for high-resolution environments are too high to get down to the millimeter resolution, let alone where vision is at, and the fact that most of them are different means you're screwed on compression. In theory you can convert voxels to a triangle mesh with the marching cubes algorithm, but at that point not only do you have all of the UI problems trying to make a full 3d environment accessible somehow, you've got an undebuggable save by the sighted mess.  I think what you want in general is possible, but if it's 3D it's going to be hard to impossible to keep it such that a blind dev can contribute meaningfully while producing an experience a sighted person would want to play.Obviously little to none of this is a problem if you posit that the point would be that a sighted person would be playing to join their blind friend, though. Also, when I rank the graphics of Minecraft: despite having immeasurable vision, and losing that vision over the ten years or so since the N64 and the PS3, even I could tell that the PS3 looked better.  Put them next to each other and the N64 is like a cheese grater to the eyball.  Minecraft runs at a higher resolution than the N64, but when all your mountains look like staircases but every "step" is half the height of your character and you get everywhere by jumping--well, enough said.  But my point is that at least on that point I'm not being hypothetical.

@1089, yes, the vaccine uses MRNA technology, but MRNA itself has been well-studied. We know what it does, and all it does is tell your body how to do something. It can't mutate or alter your DNA in any significant way, if at all. It can make your immune system produce vaccines for COVID but that's all it can do. The side effects are, of course, your body's immune response to a perceived threat, which is good.

Re: Help with map creation please?

Lots of good info in this thread already, but if you still want to do the 3-D block-based approach, the keyword you want is "voxel." A pixel is a dot in 2-D. A voxel is a volumetric pixel, or a 3-D pixel/block.I'm actually interested in this approach myself, as I'd like to create playable graphical games that happen to be accessible. My next title or two will just use tiles, but I'm considering voxels to at least be able to knock together 3-D levels that designers might be able to help improve, assuming I manage to get that far in 2-D. Voxels might also help more advanced audio engines create reverbs, occlusion, etc.I don't know much about them, though. I think each voxel is the same size, say something like 1X1X1 meter, and you build up your environment by activating spaces you want to be filled. You need to be careful about storage, since as you might imagine, large worlds take up lots of space. You probably also want something like an OCTree to perform spatial queries, locating all the blocks in a specific area for instance. There's a lot of complexity here, so if you don't need it, I'd advise faking it as has already been suggested. I'm mainly poking it from an academic perspective, as I'm trying to find ways for my games to not just be audio games, and voxels seem conceptually easier for modeling a space than do a bunch of meshes.

Ok, so the whole scary thing about independant living skills is really overrated. As long as you have money, assist with your household's chores before you move out, and do all of the chores, you have a good understanding of how to  manage a home, and will be ok for the most part. I would highly advise against blindness schools though, very little is actually taught there, and what you gain isn't really worth what you lose. I mean seriously. The school I attended, they'd collect  your cell phones, so you are without a private and direct contact to your family except weekends, not allow you to keep and take your own medications, not allow you to leave school grounds at any time unaccompanied. I actually heard  the principal wanted some students to stay in boarding school, and wouldn't let some blind kids leave with their families for the holidays. How  fucked up is that? And the school I attended actually was a good blind school. compared to others, so I can't imagine what a bad one is like. Even allowing students as young as 5/6 be a boarding school is a majorly fucked up thing. That kid basicly is raised as an orphin, and that probably would be an extremely traumatic experience. Most sighted children live with their families until college. As for imigration, forget it. Immigrants in the States are always used as a scapegoat by republicans when there are any sort of issues in the country, and a significant number of people buy it.

Re: Corona Virus: is it the beginning of the end?

Ok, so you can have your 200+ barbecues, and make your ritualistic human sacrifices to save the economy, except it won't work, and  you will have massive explosions of cases at hospitals, have  doctors quit their jobs, and have everything generally fucked up because people who need to go to the hospital can't,  people  going to work even though they have the virus because employers won't provide sick leave, and frankly don't give a shit about their employees  sometimes. Not to mention the fact that infecting people more means more virus mutations. Maybe the only good thing is the clown is out of the white house, and the US is on the long bumpy road to finally controling this more.As for the vaccenes,  I think people   have very good and valid reasons to mistrust them. No vaccene or probably any medication was ever developed so fast as these coronavirus vaccenes were. Moreover, there was high political pressure on scientists to churn out a vaccene in record time, and these vaccenes used in the EU and most of the developed world use MRNA technology, which also hasn't ever been used before and certainly not on this scale. You can also do a quick search and learn that  white house Chief of staff Mark Meadows threatened to fire the FDA comissioner if the vaccene wasn't approved in a day. This does absolutely nothing to inspire trust. Also, the approval was emergency approval, which states longterm effects of anything under this type of approval aren't known, and that it is only done  because of the pandemic.  Until any of the vaccenes get regular, not emergency, approval, they will be voluntary only. I personally wouldn't take the vaccene iether until it received regular approval, or  until such time I wasn't permited to work remotely anymore, or if I had to travel internationally, though I won't travel until manditory quarantine rules are lifted.  Having said that though, these emergency approved vaccenes are much more trustworthy than say the Chinese vaccenes  that haven't received any approvals from any reputable source, and have questionable effectiveness that Turkey is handing out for free to everyone there.  Also they will have to come up with a vaccene that works always, if they keep coming up with vaccenes every 3-6 months to a year, people will probably have more questions to safety, and refuse it more. I do as well. The  body isn't a piece of software that you keep updating to 6.0, 6.1 6.2 etc. As you keep taking more and more, the possiblity of safety issues and adverse events would go up.

Re: Corona Virus: is it the beginning of the end?

Tricky business, for sure. The good news is that vaccination means much, much higher immunity, or at least resistance, which will lower overall communicability. Numbers are trending down in most places, and stable in others; at present, I don't know of any countries where Covid-19, or any of its variants, is raging unchecked. I'm eager and willing to get a vaccine at the earliest opportunity, but I'm 37 and have no pre-existing conditions, and live in a fairly large city, so I'm pretty low on the list, as I'm not yet employed so I'm not even an essential worker (though I will be if I can get a job). Point is, they rushed this, but it looks quite safe, and there's enough data to suggest that it works way, way more often than it doesn't. Complications appear to be pretty rare, and the most serious of them is something everybody is aware of. I think that at this point, not getting vaccinated when you have the opportunity to do so is foolish and paranoid.

The best school for the blind in the US is that public school (inclusive) which has good support for the blind. Otherwise, it's not worth it going anywhere where it's written special school for the blind.I went through this road mate, and can tell you with unbowed confidence that any inclusive public school will give you more than the best special institution for the blind in the world. Having gone to a special school myself, and counting now the ninth year since I left that place, which is equal to the number of years I spent at that school, I feel the marks it has left in my personality are still not fully undone. In any form and circumstance I fail, I attribute it only to that bloody school which should be pulled down for the sake of the new generation.Make a favour to your community and to the society around you, go to a public school. Not only will you raise the awareness of your classmates about blindness and blind people, but you will also open yourself doors that you thought were impossible. There is 4x4 galaxy, although it is  for a web browser. While there are only 16 planets, they’re all procedurally generated and there are loads of things to see and events to find. You will also have a procedurally generated objective to accomplish.

Re: People who live in the US, what schools for the blind are the best?

@11I dunno what to say really.  Are they abusive?  If they're not abusive then "I will immigrate to get away" is an extreme response.  It's not going to work anyway, but it's very extreme.  Easier to work on your issues with them, or to learn how to come to terms with dealing with what I'm going to assume is a generation gap (seriously: be over about 40 and you might use the internet, but man is your worldview different...).You may eventually not live with your parents, but being able to get along with people you dislike and/or even hate is a valuable life skill which is necessary for lots of things.@13this is actually "I want to get away from my family" more than "I want some skills" which means remote stuff probably won't help. That said I do know people who learned to transcribe braille through them and they're not a bad option because they can supplement whatever else rather than replacing your entire life, social structure, etc etc etc.

Re: Alternative to Forge for Magic: the Gathering

Re: Alternative to Forge for Magic: the Gathering

About good introductory decks, I normally recommend Mono Red aggressive decks, usually named "Red Deck Wins", not because they are the best (in fact, there's no such thing as the best deck of all) but because they are very straightforward, no subtle playing nuances, you drop your lands and throw as much damage as you can each turn. In the preconstructed decks that come with Forge, Lightning Aggro and Cavalcade Charge are two good examples.Another thing that made me angry for a while and rzkline generously explained: If you accidentally hit F11, the game will go to full screen mode, and NVDA's Golden Cursor will not work. Just hit F11 again and things get back to their place.About the card references, it depends. If I just want to read some card's details, I go to scryfall. Just typing the card's name and the word scryfall on google will return it on the first result. Scryfall is great because it presents card details as text and puts the card title and cost in a page header, very easy to navigate to. Now, if I'm researching cards, looking for something that has this effect and that cost and this rarity and that color, then I use Forge's deck editor, for it can filter cards in many, mny ways.Everyone can feel free to ask me questions about how to use Forge. I surely don't know everything, and sometimes I go for one or two days without opening this forum, but I'll be glad to help as I can. Magic is a wonderful game and the more blind people learn to play, the more it gets possible to push Wizards of the Coast to make MtG Arena accessible.

Re: Crazy Party: mini-games and card battle! (beta75)

I suggest removing the "stat", "status", or "manipulation" attributes from the cards listed below and adding the "consumption" attribute instead.free scream, focus punch, focus kick, massive dice, massive wave, eruption, forced beverage ("manipulation" only), forest symphony, floral shield, floral armor, floral vitality, leaf storm, floral ray, bullet Seed, solar beam, sap stream, wicked explosion, converging dice, mirror throwThese cards can be prevented with either "natural mistrust", "mineral insensitivity", or "metallic insensitivity" cards, even though they do not interfere with the target card, stat, etc. This makes it difficult to add to the deck.We also suggest removing the "manipulation" attribute from the cards related to capacitors. These cards should be protected with "capacitor protection".capacitor transfer, capacitor explosion, capacitor disruption, capacitor overload, capacitor overheatFinally, from the following cards, we suggest removing the "manipulation" attribute as a special case. Deck that requires these cards can be neutralized with just one "natural mistrust".elixir delivery, elixir explosion, powder explosion

It is random based game in which you control collony ship and must find a planet to start a settlement for mankind.Olso for android it have star traders, in which you can play as a explorer, and go to differend planets and collect artifacts ect ect...For pc, you have smugglers, in which you can travel in several star systems, and explore planets.
