Re: Onslaught, audio Asteroids, early Linux/Windows beta
Re: Onslaught, audio Asteroids, early Linux/Windows beta Hi,So in Asteroids, you can actually thrust forward through the screen to avoid things. Also though, you need to be careful. Asteroids start out as big, but when you hit them, they split into two medium asteroids, and shooting those splits them into smaller asteroids. There's also sorcers that fly across the screen sometimes fairly fast. There's also a hyperspace button that literally warps you to a random position while making you invincible for a second or so, but the issue is, you could come out of hyperspace right into the path of an asteroid. If you're hit by any asteroid, I think, you end up losing a life. Re: Feedback on making game blind-friendly
Re: Feedback on making game blind-friendly Hi,I'll provide you with a rather cool example. In the Japanese audiogame Dreamy Train, if you press space, you are given distance to station, current speed, and speed limit. When you do this, the game literally pauses it's state, speaks, and then resumes. You can allow this by putting a delay option in your game's settings that the user can configure and test. Then, DreamyTrain takes this one step further. Apart from the delay option, if the user presses a key after hearing the info they want, it immediately resumes. Then, for another option, you can press z for distance, x for speed, and c for speed limit, and each time you do this, it pauses.Another example for more complex stuff:Bokurano Daiboukenn 3 has an object locator, accessed with D. It pauses the game's current state, and lets you move up and down, telling you your position and that of other objects on the field.I'm wondering if some approaches combining some of these systems could be used for units. A menu system where you can move between units and press buttons for different unit status, a button that shows general status of a team, field effects, and such, as a summary, and/or buttons that can make specific information read. Re: Prototyping game for blind players and need feedback
Re: Prototyping game for blind players and need feedback Hi,@Nightblade Speaking just as user rather than admin here, I am wondering if when it was ready for release, the one thing you did not do, which would have made interest much stronger, was come here and announce a direct link. A lot of people on this website like linking to projects directly from the post they are based on, rather than, necessarily, going through YouTube descriptions. There was no indication of a release, and now that you've put the link, I think the interest you are gaining is speaking for itself. Some people don't speak English as their first language and like having both a website to go to, and a direct download link, in a project's post on the forum, or rather, let's say a prototype comes out like you did here, if it's coming and you want to advertise it you can do what you did with the first post, but the one key thing is, once it's ready for release, make a separate post in that same topic, with a direct link in there announcing the release. The Github link, I think, has helped, and I will be checking that out. Re: Namespaces in bgt - A Tutorial / Guide @21 yep, that's exactly what I'm saying. Did it change my thoughts on the game or make me want to do anything? No, I wasn't brave enough to go that far. But it made me think [[wow]], how is something like this even possible? It does not work for many files. I ended up closing it and forgetting about it, to be honest, and I don't even rememebr if it was ammoe or what it was that I even found. I was expecting some jumbled mess but there were some English words in there, and that was enough to surprise me. Re: Namespaces in bgt - A Tutorial / Guide
Re: Namespaces in bgt - A Tutorial / Guide @Ethin I am going to agree with Niclas here, there's a lot you can gain from exe files and then you just experiment, which is something I don't do much, but opening exe files to some programs has made me find hidden info about hidden features and things, although this was a while ago. IT's then up to the more brave to experiment with stuff, and some of those experiments don't need that much technical knowledge such as lexicans. Basically, you are overthinking things. Re: I'm blind and want to develop a very complex game
Re: I'm blind and want to develop a very complex game Hello,If you would like to write a text-based game, I recommend going to the website of a company called Choice of Games. They ahve a free language you can download there called Choice Script. In fact, one of their games, Way Walkers University, was used as a world building starting point for an author, who then went on to develop, and publish, a novel. If youve heard, on iOs or even on the PC, of ames like Choice of The Dragon, choice of Broadsides, Heroes Rise, Zombie Exodus of Fatehaven, then these are all games developed by this same company. What makes it interesting is if you finish a game and you send it to them, they will probably host it. What most people do is sign up to the forums (I dont know what the new interface is like though), and put their game in the work in progress section for people to test script bugs, check for grammatical errors and generally help you out, and unlike most websites, Ive seen no trolling or anything bad go on the re. In fact, the community reminds me of this audiogame community right here, these are people who love writing, who want to develop or who just love to play these text games.
