One of the reasons why I won't upgrade to Windows 10 until forced is because all the new features Microsoft added to it was so they could add more eye candy making it an accessibility nightmare for anybody but their own narrator. Just look at how long it took before Edge or the new modern apps like EMail were marginally accessible. Re: Microsoft outlook is pissing me off! "Orko, that was one of the first things I tried, and a lovely message popped up telling me that I needed to immport the files by running outlook. What has actually happened is we needed to give the computer back to the very nice local firm who did my lady's upgrade in the first place, who have had to basically get into outlook via registry backend restore outlook back to factory settings as outlook didn't know the difference between microsoft mail and google. God it's stupid! this is one of the cases where my lady and I disagree, I've hated outlook for years finding it a bloated, over complex waste of space, but all her contacts, past emails etc are already configured to run with it so she's a little stuck. I've used windows 10 mail for the past year, but this case has actually spurred me to try something else. I'm trying outlook express (and remembering why! I liked the program so much and why I think microsoft are such idiots for abandoning something so simple and effective).Though I'm not against the idea of trying something a little more modern like thunderbird if it has a working address book, but as I've already mentioned this in the outlook express topic I'll not repeat myself here. Luckily for me, I don't save emails as emails and I've still got all my contacts saved as a straight text file so importing them into whatever mail won't be a problem, indeed this is one of my dissatisfactions with windows 10 default mail, trying to manage contacts in the thing, either creating new ones or anything else is a bloody pain in the kneck! What happened after Office 2007 I think, they broke all the menus for the office suite. That reminds me, I'm still using Internet Explorer. Ahem, I should go switch default now. Re: Microsoft outlook is pissing me off! If Office is successfully installed, which is how it sounds, PST files should now show as an Outlook file type. If that's the case, try launching the PST file and see if that invokes Outlooks import function.I used to use Outlook with my GMail account with few problems, but that was more than three years ago and I have forgotten much about it, so that is all I can think of at the moment. It's a bit glitchy, but it at least works. That, or IOS mail. Microsoft outlook is pissing me off!
Microsoft outlook is pissing me off! I'm trying to setup my lady's machine with office and outlook. Despiite a lot of running around and wading through endless promotional crap from microsoft, I have got office itself setup tied to a microsoft account for her registered to her gmail address. For some reason she wants to continue using outlook, and has all the old information from her previous install of outlook stored in a pst file and several others, so I open outlook to find an import option. "welcome to outlook, please setup your account" Okay, so I can't actually access the stupid program until i have an account my lady's gmail account is already setup to run with outlook, so alright lets try. I enter mail name and password (which I've just used to sign in to her Gmail account with in order to activate office). "please enter your microsoft email account" Okay oh look there is a "change account type" button and one of the options is google, however the same server is given as internet.imap.com or something, and adding in the gmail name and password does nothing. Still worse, I can't open the fucking program to import her old settings until I've setup an account, and I can't perusahd the program that google isn't a microsoft account service! God! I hate outlook (I don't know why my lady likes it, but she does).Does anyone know how I can either A, setup the gmail account in outlook or B, import the pst files so that outlook will have the old settings from my lady's previous install of office? Again, if it were me I wouldn't touch outlook, I've always found it a bloated, useless peace of over complex claptrap and think microsoft should never have got rid of outlook express, indeed this makes me want to go and setup thunderbird for myself . But my lady is welcome to her choice, it's just mildly unfortunate that the program she choose to use is such a painus in the anus to setup! Any assistance would be much appreciated.
