Yeah, I admit this is a bit counter intuative and the only place your told it in the game is when select an item to buy at the smith and are told to hit alt if you want to decline the price, but it also serves as a back space in most menus too, including if you pause the game with enter and want to return to the game rather than go to the main menu. They are played by the same person, and that one honestly threw me. Alexia and Shepherd are far more similar than Kelly and Shauna. So yes, it may be a different person, but I think there's enough similarity there for a comparison. If it is the same person, as I suspect, she's making her voice a bit lower and rougher for Shepherd, or she made her voice slightly higher and more naïve-sounding for Alexia. It is a medieal setting, so a blind person, noble or not doesn't represent much of a threat back in the time. I'm not sure if they don't have previous experiences regarding audiogames and accessibility in general, but they did an excelent work representing the relations between the characters abd tge setting as a whole.Best regards, Haramir. I don't bother with caring about worldbuilding and character if I don't like the world and characters, so I honestly love having a game that even brings up these thoughts at all. The only one for pc that ever made me consider it as much was Ahc, and since your pc isn't voiced, it was a little bit harder to fall into it like that. Though I did love the dialogue choices in that one. YES combat could be a little more engaging, though I still enjoyed it. But I genuinely love this game so far. It felt lovingly nestalgic to old rpg's some of which you don't get to customise your main character. See some of the final fantasy games, for example. I will go out to bat for this game. Maybe its just because all the other blind protagonists of similar games have been male. Most notibly the get your pretty hands dirty reads as particularly emasculating if you're pc is male, and shiny prize on the road most definitely has implications if you're a female pc. Play the demo over and pretend you're reading a book. See how the pc's inner monologue changes if you're pc is m/f, what would the other player character comments make you think/feel? What other aspects of that character's life might you consider as the dialogue happens? Even having her think about doing so but not actually having her verbally say something so as to not alienate her ally would be a cool way to do it and present that she recognizes she does still need some help but that Shepherd might be thinking about it a bit wrong. It would also illustrate the trade offs of taking a chance to try to educate/advocate even when it might mean being stranded alone in the middle of nowhere with enemy combatants nearby. I was able to recreate some large shielf impact by mixing a metal thud with a lighter clang impact, but it all depends on what sound libraries they had. A lot of audio is being created in the moment, judging by the audio placeholders, so I'm sure that will be taken into account. I'm simply starting to grow weary of the amont of games with this kind of combat we've seen when Shadow Line, Swamp, and a few others show that more complex combat is indeed possible. This is like the next generation of repetetive combat gameplay... similar to how back about 10 years ago everyone who created action games was making space invader type games. Now the trend seems to be moving towards stationary combat in story driven games. I'm also not a fan of the current way quests are done, as others have said. So this is consulting as it were. As for me, I heard Liam play the game as was very impressed. Sadly, I can't get it to run under Wine 3.0rc1 on Mac, and it crashed my windows 10 virtual machine, or the vm crashed before it could run. Now I could easily be missing a system requirement or two, I have directx11 modified runtime for windows xp and up for Wine's sake, but dotnet framework is having problems installing if that's even a system requirement in the first place. I'm using a Toshiba Satellite L855D running Windows 10. I checked this against other games to see if the problem was computer-based. Nope, it was the game. I also tried turning down the graphics setting. Still no luck. Aside from the stuttering, the sound design is pretty good. One issue I had with the game was the gameplay itself, specifically the combat. The combat is much tooo .. slow. For the practice sessions with unclle (sorry, spoiler) I could understand this, it was training after all. But on the road> No one who has ever been in a fight would call that fighting. It felt much too staged. So speed up the combat a bit, enough to give a sense of realism and immediacy to the actual combat. THe flashbacks can stay as is, since they're training exercises both for the character and the player. Re: The Vale (Adventure Game) Beta Test Discussion i have just completed the demo.whilst like others i like the concept it is far too simplistic, and i just cannot at present see how it will appeal to sighted gamers. you do not walk around, only to sound beacons for locations, and you are literally guided to where you need to go, to do quests, so it is almost like the game can play itself, because i am blind. i do believe it is a very linear story-driven game, with at present not much explorer, and discovering situations for myself. the audio though, is really immersive, but if the game remains this simple, i feel it can be completed in 2 hours or less by a skilled blind gamer, who are you target market, i completed this demo in 30 minutes. Re: The Vale (Adventure Game) Beta Test Discussion like everyone said here, I encountered the same bugs.first off, when in the shops menu when I talk to the blacksmith to buy weapons and armor, I can't leave the menu. also, when I was told to press the M key to open the travel map, it doesn't work, however if I press the escape key it opens up the map screen.some other bugs that I have is in some parts of the game, the audio lags a bit, especially if you're surrounded by multiple enemies. and some suggestions, in the final release, could you make the combat a bit more realistic? I mean you can move around, dodge incoming attacks, a combo system, and many more? it would be cool if those will be added. I'm not complaining about what I've played so far though, it is really well put together. I just get the feeling it's yet of the same we've had a few times.will I buy it when it's released? I'm not sure yet. i'll see what I think when I complete the beta but so far I have to say it isn't really enspiring me. just feels like an audio drama that you get to make the odd choice in and have to do battles to progress. Re: The Vale (Adventure Game) Beta Test Discussion Well guys I have tested the game to the end.As well as the errors I found I had issues with backing out of menus.I was able to buy most things though while there were quests that were simple in themselves I was able to buy my sword, a bow and a shield not the armour sadly but oh well.The combat may be simple but it can be a challenge in its own way.Its certainly got potential to be a good game. Maybe upping the speed and mobility of foes is in the works for later areas and parts of the game. Though, I'm curious what a better shield exactly does for people? Oak shield sort of feels as if it blocks at the same speed as the pot lid, and uh, takes as much of a beating? I"m not sure what shield's limitations exactly are. Re: The Vale (Adventure Game) Beta Test Discussion hi was the Shepard voice acted by the same person who played allexia in a hero's call?I really injoy the audio quality of the game as well as the story line also guys remember that the game is set in what sounds like quite a few centuries back and in those days it was quite normal fore people with blindness to be handled in the way in witch the main character was handled and should be taken with a pinch of salt i think, the combat is easy at the moment but i be leave it will get more challenging as you progress in the game and i can not wait to see what the full game will hold, keep up the good work. I could buy it but I don'T feel like it, I haven't found any game that would convince me that I absolutely need it, and that it would be better to use than a keyboard. :-) This game's combat, at least as far as I've seen for now, is so slow and simple that there really is no real advantage or edge for players with a controller as opposed to those with a keyboard. Too bad some spoken prompts, like in the pause menu, only refer to controller button assignments and not to actual key bindings. :-) That's not that much of an issue though, especially for a first public beta.For now, I have to agree with those who said that the game is pretty much like A Blind Legend 2.0. Nothing ground breaking there in terms of how combat and exploration is handled, but at least it's executed well. I do like the decent, certainly not disappointing sound design and acting. I think the acting is definitely better than that in ABL. :-) Yeah, I also agree, no way that lady is a random shepherd. It's kind of stereotypical in how a seemingly powerless main character, or one that everyone else in the world except for one person seems to consider powerless, gets this always present companion out of nowhere, since a blind person apparently needs a companion, guide or caretaker, to get around even in unfamiliar areas. Of course, given the circumstances, being chased by some wild roaming hoard 500 miles away from home, having probably lost his escort and kin, it's always better to travel around with at least some company, I'll give you that. :-)That reminds me, I do like the story so far. It's nothing surprising, seems to have jumped up on the blindness cliché games bandwagon, but at least, as I said above, this game executes it better than most others of a similar kind I've seen so far (ABL or Echoes from Levia). Even Three Monkeys, from what little we've seen of the trailers and the hiped up promo, seemed to look the same. I wish someone with this concept in mind actually researched what other games of a similar genre possibly already existed before starting to work on their own implementation.What I really like about the game so far, however, are the little retrospective flashbacks with your uncle that you get in between story progressions that serve as tutorials. That's a really good way to keep the player engaged and attentive. Also, I appreciate that you have more freedom than in ABL or Echoes from Levia in that you can at least do some exploration and take quests, all-be-it pretty simplistic for now. Who knows, maybe they'll get more interesting and challenging later on. The blacksmith is also kind of nice. All of this coupled together helps this game better approach the claim of being "RPG" than Echoes from Levia ever did.Of course, I'm not comparing the game to A Hero's Call which is a completely different league in all aspects. That would be an unfair comparison, and not just because the combat in AHC is turn-based. :-)I would really like it if I didn't have to listen to the sometimes lengthy menu items all over again when, say, revisiting the available quests or the blacksmith, or even in the main menu. There is no good reason to force the player to wait until the given item finishes speaking and until the UI voice tells you to press space bar before you can actually do it. On the same note, the blacksmith should probably include the prices when repeating the abbreviated inventory, i.e. you've already bought something from him on this visit and now you are just cycling through his inventory another time (the blade, the bow, the shield, the leather armor).The tutorials in the main menu seem to be broken, or rather not implemented, for now. They don't do anything at all yet. Just making sure I'm not missing something. Also, there seems to be a silent menu item one option before the sword tutorial.I'm glad to have found out the game autosaves. Although I expected that behavior, it's not explicitly said anywhere, so I was quite relieved to find that out when I returned to the main menu because I really had to stop playing for the time being. :-)Yeah, I'm still curious and definitely eager to finish this. I feel this game has more to it than what I've seen so far, and more than its relevant competitors. What I've seen so far was done well, made sense within the given circumstances and scope, and was not disappointing at all. To be honest, I was probably even more pleased than I expected I would be.One last observation for now before I go to play some more, I really appreciate how when there is missing dialogue, you at least get told about what's supposed to happen.
