Re: DeadFright - A Survival Horror Audio Game (DEMO)

The reason would probably be that the dev has all of the paper work with what they need to do and how much it would cost, and so they give us the figures, and obviously if we reach the goal, they can do all the things that they wanted to do, otherwise they won't have enough money and it won't be as good of a game.Considering that he had all the amounts set out and he barely got any money for it, he probably will barely have enough money to get some voice acting and music composed, and maybe pay the taxes, I would ave to look at the kick starter again to be sure, but you can find all the info there about how he planned to set it out and what he will be able to afford with this money that he got now

Here's the thing though. Kickstarter doesn't charge you if the amount doesn't reach the goal. I don't know why people need to worry if "it's not gonna reach anyway" is a reason.

I think what the dev did wrong in the demo is that he released the navigation only, and didn't include any combat or anything that would really get the people hyped for this project, which unfortunately doesn't go well with the goals, I will back it up in less than a week though, that's for sure.

Re: DeadFright - A Survival Horror Audio Game (DEMO)

@Nyanchan, for me the Kickstarter says sixteen thousand one hundred pounds as the standard goal, equivalent to twenty one thousand dollars, since obviously the currency is localised to Britain, and then twenty one thousand pounds as the stretch goal, which would be twenty five thousand dollars. The way Kickstarter usually works, is there is a standard pledge amount which is the goal which needs to be reached to insure that the project happens, , and then an additional stretch goal for  things the project might achieve if there is a larger pledge amount, in this case that would be the tts localisation. At this point I'm more concerned myself that the basic goal will be reached at all, since as I said, Kickstarters don't have a great history at audiogames development, since there just isn't that sort of money within the community, and not generally the required interest outside it, but if this proves a rare exception, that would be awesome. I just hope there are plans for the game to go ahead even if the Kickstarter does not work out, since it would be the shame to see this go the way of three monkeys, the graill to the thief sequels etc.

Oh, I thought the goal was 25000, but is that actually 2500? I assumed he was trying to raise 25000 and do voice-acted multilanguage dialogs. It says 221 something JPY, so the kickstarter setting looks exactly $25000. It should be 250 something JPY, but kickstarter is subtracting what they're going to take I think.

@Oriol, I thought the goal was twenty one thousand dollars, with tts localisation as a stretch goal if the project reaches twenty five thousand dollars. That is why I am a little concerned about raising the money, if the goal was indeed two thousand five hundred dollars, there probably wouldn't be an issue raising it, even from this community, but I don't believe that is the case.Of course, if the money does indeed get raised, that would of course be fantastic.

#74Hi, Thanks for the support!I'm well aware of how though this is for an audiogame! But we need to dream big, and keep trying and keep pushing. The idea behind rich 3D audio and simple gameplay is that more people get interested in audiogames. So let's hope we can make it! And yes if Kickstarter doesn't work we can brainstorm for alternatives if members of the community can help we could get somewhere. And thank you very much for you and your lady's offer.#77The stretch goal is 4000 USD over the original 21000.I calculated the translation of 3380 words with the online calculator for localization in this site https://thewordpoint.com/And it's around $0.10 per word, so it is $338 per language, times 10 languages it's around $3380. And the remaining $620 goes to the work behind implementing the localized texts in the game, there is some code and testing behind all that. But if you got confused or think that stretch goal is not well presented I can edit it maybe with those calculations so it's more clear. What do you guys think?

Re: DeadFright - A Survival Horror Audio Game (DEMO)

I'm afraid my one worry here, is the same with every audiogame kickstarter there's ever been. it doesn't matter how good the project, how well written the page, how well advertised, i've never seen one audiogame kickstarter work out. this is because most sighted gamers are just not interested in audiogames, and the audiogames community is just too small to generate this sort of cash, much less this sort of cash in the time required. Grail to the thief, three monkeys, even star traders 2, they have literally never! worked out at all, not for lack of commitment from the community, or lack of dedication on the part of the developers, just because the economics do not make sense. I will of course do what I can, I'll write up some news for the front of site, and throw in some cash myself, however I very much hope there is an alternative planned if the kickstarter does not succeed. For a start, have you considered utilising members of this community for things like voice acting or even music, the way the developers of audio wizards did? (my lady and I would be glad to contribute to that ourselves).

But it will be very helpful to get you feedback about it, since you guys are the most important community for the game. Also I took the liberty to thank you guys and added some of your most uplifting comments about the demo at the end.I am so thankful to have you guys, please help me spread the word, share it with all your friends and family so together we can make the full version of the game a nightmare come true!Thank you once again and please keep in touch!PS: I’ll be sending a call to action email to those who downloaded the demo, so my apologies for the spammy.

Not sure if this is what you are talking about defender but in the pub with the record player I'd often end up in the bathroom cause it opens automaticly and there's no door sound. The pub it's self also just opens automaticly so it could be that too.

Re: DeadFright - A Survival Horror Audio Game (DEMO)

I finally got around to trying this today and it's really cool!I do wish you could use right shift for running as well though, and that map borders made a wall hit sound of some type.Being able to hear sleep walkers through a wall or door quietly might be nice too.  Two of them were on either side of the church door and I went inside to wait for them to hopefully lose interest, but I had to step out to check.  Not so bad, but I do think that hearing them through the door might have been cool and creepy.I find the clicks a bit annoying to be honest, and sometimes they seem to trigger for far away walls which I don't really want.  Maybe the click speed could be based on distance, and you could toggle the sound with a key?I also got confused by that door to the room with the record player, because it opened automatically instead of working like the other doors did.I love the sound design and the ability to turn during cutscenes by the way!  The number stations were a nice touch, though more creepy if you don't know what they are I'm sure.I personally would have liked to have everything explained in the tutorial rather than via messages in the first chapter, because they kept interrupting my gameplay and it wasn't always obvious what triggered them because unlike a tutorial map where things are presented one at a time, I was distracted by all sorts of other things.I also found it odd that I didn't find any sleep walkers in houses, though maybe that was just luck.  I think it might have been cool if the baby or it's mother attacked me when I got close for instance.Next month I'll definitely be donating to this, and if I can help in any other way, please let me know.

Hi everyone, k0rt4 here. For those asking for the 32bit version, you can now download it at https://korta-interactive.itch.io/deadfrightFor those asking about the story of the demo, well, there is no story on the demo, there are elements that are part of the full story of the first chapter, but this demo was made to show the navigation, the 3d audio environments, the living corpses mechanics, etc. So, I added the hide and seek game to show all that. The easter egg @zargonbr hahaha nice the other station besides the UVB78 is also a famous and with a similar story. Some news moving forward with DeadFright:There is now a discord server where we can chat directly, so I invite you to join if you want to be in close contact with me and the development of the game. You can join with this link: https://discord.gg/fua2DaAnd the demo will be available on steam soon, I will let you guys now so we can bring traffic there, all this is very helpful to make this a real thing.I’m very grateful with your support and comments, I will still keep in touch here, but for those more interested I'll see you guys on Discord!

This is one of the best games that has come out since AHC.  I like the demo, liked what i played.  The 3d audio is the bomb, and its done very very well.  A key mapper sounds good also, And the fact that you can play this with a controler is bad ass.  When we fight the corpses would it be possible to have the ability to avoid their hits?  for longer survival.

And there are 16 characters and in total the word count is 3497. Right now I'm not sure what could be the problem on your mac you are the first reporting this. Ill keep an eye on that. Thanks.

I think the best thing to do when it comes to translation and voice acting is having screenreader and voice acting at the same time, with the posibility of disabling any of these. As someone sayd before, the japanese audiogame shadowline has this option and does so another audiogame called a hero's call.Maybe it is so early for this, but I canofer my help to translate the game into spanish in the future; I'm really excited to see what the future holds for this progect.

So, localization with voice actors costs a lot of money. But adding a screen reader will give you the ability to translate. And here's my question. Does anyone know a good example of how best to add a voice actor translation? I mean, should I disable the voice actor and replace it with a screen reader? O should I add a screen reader on top of the voice actor? I got lost in this and we would really appreciate your understanding!

Re: DeadFright - A Survival Horror Audio Game (DEMO)

# 41 Yes, there are two NVDA addons that can do this. NVDA translate, which is for versions lower than 19.3 and Yandex translate which also works with versions 19.3 and above. However, these are some technical details that do not matter in the programming. It is important to accept NVDA. Then the user will choose what addon use.I think that adding the possibility to translate the game into the desired language would be worth considering. There are many volunteers who translate for free. In addition, I consider it better to introduction a screen reader than to hire voice actors for each language of great circulation. It saves money and allows the game to reach more people, as well as the development of future projects.Personally, I wouldn't mind very much if there were no vocal actors, but I think others would prefer this option. In conclusion, because most audio gamers speak English, that there should still be voice acting in the game, but that it would not be worth the cost for other languages when there is a better option (NVDA).If you have any more questions, I would be more than happy to answer them.

Re: DeadFright - A Survival Horror Audio Game (DEMO)

Hi everyone, your friendly neighborhood k0rt4 here!Again, thanks so much for your comments you give me strength and motivation to keep improving this game!!@Jeffb I’m definitely going to add a Key Mapper, accessibility is my main drive for this project. And skipping dialogues, that is going to the meditation list.@Dark Thank you for the elaborate feedback really appreciate it. A ping to notify an interactable object is something I tested and decided to get rid of it, gets annoying. But maybe I can enlarge the trigger area to interact with the objects. Still, this is going to my meditation list. The thing with the grass is something I have thought, my plan is to add living corpses on the edge area, behind the grass, so you can have an additional audio reference of where not go.And finally, the slowing down mechanic, in this my good sir you are absolutely correct. Being hurt and not being able to fight or run are enough punishment for being caught.  And it makes the player be more cautious or more nervous. But slowing you down is detrimental to the experience. That is something that I’m going to correct.@Deucalion adding NVDA as a screen reader, yes! But I’m very interested to know those reasons. My idea is to replace that Zira recording with a real voice actor. But leaving the option to switch to a screen reader, so you can change the speed, or even the language.@Sean-Terry01: There is not a “key” to know where you are. My objective is to let you know with the environment and in the full game there will be a lot of more people on the town, and it will be easier.@dennybuster: Yeah, I fell you, one thing to keep in mind is that on the full version houses will be occupied by residents, so finding help to get healed will be much easier. Right now, the town is desolated and getting hurt is a pain.@luyi: So, localization with voice actors is something that cost mountains of money. But adding a screen reader would give you the option to translate. And here I have a question. Does anyone know a good example of what is the best approach to adding translation of a voice actor? I mean, should I turn off the voice actor and substitute it with a screen reader? O should I add the screen reader over the voice actor? In this I’m lost and your insight will be very much appreciated!@bhanuponguru: Thanks XD Yes, I’m developing this in unity, I code with C# and I’m using the resonance audio from Google for the binaural and immersive audio.@Alisson: You are correct!

Re: DeadFright - A Survival Horror Audio Game (DEMO)

ok played the game again and i encountered the same death. problem was, that i just entered the building next to where i knocked out the corpse and when i got out after about 20 seconds i stepped on it or something (the sound was like the swamp tile in s b y w) and it made that strange gorry death  sound.although, how am i supposed to find help? that's my main question since when you get in a fight you basically lose all of your abilities, making it sound like (ok if you get cought you basically have to smash the e key and then no matter what you get injoured).i would make that a little different, like if you don't kill / knock out the thing fast enough you get injoured and if you take more time it kills you.with that sayd, this thing is awesome.

Re: DeadFright - A Survival Horror Audio Game (DEMO)

Okay I'm loving the sound in this. I agree on the key mapper since I'd personally prefer to be able to turn with q and r rather than the arrows if I'm walking with a s d w, as well as use space or control as interaction buttons. One thing I'm finding mildly problematic at the moment, is knowing what is an object, what part of the atmosphere, since I didn't realise I could interact with the gramaphone at the pub until I literally walked into it. It might be nice to have a close by object ping, or go the hole hog and have some sort of list of close by objects, since at the second I'm never sure when I can and cannot interact.the hide and seek puzzle is good, though I noticed sometimes I needed to enter and exit buildings to get the girl to notice , also while I've found her at the first three places I don't seem to be able to find the fourth. I'm not sure if you necessarily need to have her say where she's hiding, but it might be helpful to get the audio map of the area again, since I've only heard it once, and I am not sure if I checked all the buildings or not. I am also uncertain about the edge of the area, since the grass swish sound is difficult to track whether I'm moving or not, and whether I came to the edge or not, indeed more definite wall sounds and perhaps more of a presence of walls might make things feel a bit more definite.I'm afraid the one thing that really irritates me is the damage and death in the game. Having the enemies lurk around waiting for you outside buildings is a nice scare, however the amount you slow down once damaged is ridiculous, especially since with the way that there is no combat, just basically button mashing, there is no way to avoid taking damage other than by not getting caught at all. Not only does this mean effectively your character has only two hits before death, since your not able to outrun corpses after getting caught once, but the amount you slow down, and the fact that run is disabled also makes the game just plane annoying to play, indeed in my last game, once I got caught I just sat around and let the zombies munch on me, since replaying from the beginning was actually less irritating than trying to find the child whilst wandering about at the speed of a concussed snail. i like the idea of an original resident evil style system, where even one zombie is scary and damage has consequences, but here I'm afraid those consequences were more annoying than anything else. All that being said, great demo, and signs of an awesome game on the way.

Re: DeadFright - A Survival Horror Audio Game (DEMO)

Hmm. So is finding the child, avoiding or killing monsters the only thing you can do in this version? There are a few objects here and there to interact with, but it doesn't seem like they play a part in the story, that, or I haven't tried messing with them enough to trigger something...I have a question...Spoiler ahead...So in one of the houses, I found a phone, I answered the call, and there was a girl crying. Does that have anything to do with the story? I'm only asking about this one since the radio doesn't seem like it's something important, nor does the cassette player, or whatever it is on the tavern, however this one seems a bit suspicious...End of spoiler...All I have to say next is...Best of luck developing this...Regards.

Hi everyone,First of all I want to thank everyone for your feedback and words of encouragement, it really means a lot to me!!! For real, being a solo developer makes you very uncertain of what you are creating, and your feedback has truly lift up my spirit! Now let’s address some things:Regarding asking your email for the download link @aaron its exactly right, my company is just me and my brother and I won’t be using your email to send you spam or newsletters, nor share it with anyone. But it is very important for me to keep track of the number of downloads of the demo and that is why I ask for the email. And yes, maybe I will send you an email when I take the next big step with this project in the near future, but that’s it! @Jeffb, Instructions are a one-time event only, once you’ve heard it, it won’t play anymore, even if you close an open the game again. Skipping them can be detrimental to the playability. Now, if you go to the pause menu (with the ESC key) and navigate down, there is an option where you can “Erase all saved data” This will restart the game like it is the first time you play and the tutorial and instructions will come back.@rings2006 There is a way to know the direction, it is taught to you at the tutorial. The compass will rotate you while telling the cardinal direction you are facing. If you are playing only with a keyboard hold the UP arrow and use the LEFT and RIGHT arrows to rotate. If you are using a mouse you can rotate with the scroll wheel, and a left click can be used to check de cardinal direction without rotating. If you are using a game controller use your LB and RB buttons.@chrisnorman7 I apologize for that issue, it's been resolved. It won’t ask for a verification number anymore. This happens when you submit your email twice in a row, it a way to avoid spam. (This is my first time creating a web page)@dennybuster Yeah, the corpses will get up back after one minute, cuz…you know, you only knocked him out The thing with the wall detector it’s not a bug, maybe the design can be tweaked, but if you turn, your “shoulder” is not touching the wall anymore and the sound stops. But I get you, I’ll meditate on this one.

tryed it out. the concept of the kid with wich you play hide and seek isn't bad at the beginning.i got killed after a while by a corpse or what looked like it. basically i killed one and then it popped back up for no reason, probably cause i've stepped on it roflflflfl.the sound design isn't bat though.what is cinda buggy is the wall sound that when you turn disappears.hope this game evolves since i didn't see much horror games around here.

I, too, am hesitant to give out an email address just for access to a download link.Any chance you might just distribute on a platform like Itch? That lets you communicate with your community, get product analytics, etc. It also makes updates and patches easy. I'd be more confident downloading and following this project on Itch, than I'd be just handing out my email address. Looked at another way, it also makes less work for you.Either way, the gameplay video sounds great. Looking forward to trying this.
