Re: Free dev

well, if you wanna be less limited I guess there's still AI dungeon. They're talking about adding something like an rpg stats system to their world system so you can give chars stats that go up and down and such. Don't know how they'd make it integrate into the AI so it can give you more successful outputs based on your stats though. I guess that's gonna be interesting.

LOL. While I think there will be some unique games as demonstrated by the contest we held recently, as I said elsewhere I'm also in agreement that we'll just see the market over saturrated with a bunch of these types of games. As I said in another topic, I'd rather see sable used in the role of a world builder where you build worlds and so on. It sounds crazy, but I like it for that use as well

Re: Free dev

No I don't think it will create a revolution in audiogames either. It'll be like the good old days in the new releases room again where you couldn't go two minutes without stumbling into another reskinned Zombie Arena or whatever. Except now instead of Zombie Arena it's gonna be "Johnny needs to fight through a maze and kill a dragon to get a bunch of gold and stuff!" over and over again, and the dragon sound effects are all going to be the same. And then there will be a million topics in the developers room like "Hey guys I started developing my game with Sable now I can't add minigames like in Manamon what do I do?" It'll be fun.

Re: Free dev

@Lucas: You couldn't create Manamon, even without the puzzles. That is, unless you were okay with having a static party. From what I gathered from Brandon's live streams, it might be the case that the output would play similarly to A Hero's Call. Every game is going to have basically the exact same gameplay. To avoid that, you need scripting.

Re: Free dev

I want to be optimistic about this, but sadly I just can't.The Sable devs will be able to make games with it to great effect, because they will be able to add features to Sable as they need them. As for the general public, I just don't see much long term interest in a bunch of games from different authors using the exact same battle system among other limitations.I mean, there were RPG makers on consoles which obviously offered no scripting implements, so maybe there's a certain market for that sort of thing, but those expecting this product to trigger a revolution in audio games should prepare to be disappointed.

Re: Free dev

Sable really needs to add scripting support, otherwise it will quickly suffer the fate of Audio Game Maker. Just my humble opinion. Game authoring tool that requires no coding = great. Game authoring tool which allows no coding = cookie cutter. If they added the ability to script new building blocks which the community could share with each other, that would make for an extremely powerful tool that could still be used by someone with no coding experience to great effect. Without it, I don't see how you can create a game that doesn't feel like a copy of the one before it.I really hope they decide to throw in Lua or something.

Re: Free dev

If you're serious about making a game, put that thirty bucks towards someone who might be willing to give you some tutoring in code. I personally wouldn't mind doing this, as long as you're serious about learning it.Unless your game is really small (like an old Dark Destroyer style space invaders clone) you're going to have a hard time finding someone to fulfill this request. COVID-19 increases your odds a little (since a lot of people are stuck at home looking for things to do), but the only way it's going to work out for you under this model is if the person who helps you strongly believes in your idea (and you basically give them the rights to your game after they create it).The other problem you'll have is fixing problems after release, which will inevitably come up. You won't be able to troubleshoot them yourself, and whomever created it for you will have moved on with their life and won't be able to help you anymore. So I'd like to extend to you what will likely be the best offer you will get under these conditions. If you seriously want to do this, which involves learning to code, you may send me an email. I can't teach you everything, but I can get you to the point where the instructional material you read online will make sense. That is if you are willing to make a time commitment to learning and practice on your own.

The kind of people with the talent and work ethic necessary would cost you about $30 per hour, not in total.@16, 17: The reason Sam won't help with this isn't because he does nothing for free, it's because there's no insentive at all. AnyAudio was free. Redspot was free. Survive the Wild is free, but it has a store that people spend money in. Sure, STW might've died a long time ago if it weren't for that, but it's also one of the most expansive and original games we have, and requires lots of work to properly administrate. You're going to be like, yeah but Redspot and Anyaudio went down a long time ago! Yes they did, and here we get to the actual point. Should people not be paid for work like that? Micro transactions are very normalized in mainstream games.

Re: Free dev

Wow, I'd help test but what you need is someone that will have the resources allready or use free stuff.30 bucks, no dev is going to work for just 30 bucks.I had a few testing projects which I have turned down because the entire project was 20 or 30 bucks, the project lasted for several hours and well for 20-30 bucks well. Now if this is 20-30 bucks an hour maybe I could understand it.But you are yung.Based on this, you probably are after a small project. Now I am interested to help if you can wait till may because I will be back from a holiday then. Then I can help you with testing, sounds which I have a lot of, a lot of free and some comercial libraries I have gotten some myself some from others. You will need someone with resources. There is language, bgt, well um maybe not.Python aparently can be done but there is a lot to do with it.Go and lusia are free aparently as well as dev c++ devpascal with freepascal, and the visual studio community and visual studio code.elektron, java, etc. Most of the languages and libraries will be free.Of course you will need a computer with the power to develop something.Visual studio needs a lot of power to do things, so does python, elektron, node and java.Dev c may be ok but the rest I don't know.I don't mean to discourage you or anyone but I have been on projects where the developer went to hard and to fast.It ended up with him burning out and the project never seeing the light of day.I have had developers release or prepair to release something only to find a lot of issues later on.If you are starting out though, I'd probably aim for a single player project. If its online servers and funding and well security will be your biggest issue. While I worked with reality software the main dev spent most of his time securing the software from troublemakers. There were a lot of bugs and such to fix but that never really happened.Eventually he burned out.So it sounds like you are starting out as a baby dev.As a baby you are helpless and can't do much.Thats a real hint.Better yet you are a poor blind and helpless baby that can't do much. That means start small and don't do to much at once.If you do you will either release something that doesn't go so well or well you will run out of steam to quick.I have had developers that have done that.1 in particular I gave some start cash to get various tools, sounds, an ftp client, etc.Something happened either life or a burn out or an early failure.I invested 100 bucks startup into this guy because it looked like he may have an interesting concept. He is no longer active online and I never got my cash back or my money's worth out of it though technically I do still have the licence I got him though I have no issue to use it.This community has seen its majority of quick and dirty devs. Some are ok but most don't make it or release substandard games. Now unless you are japanese and are like 1 certain japanese I am thinking of that can pump out entire comercial games at the age of 12 or something then I wouldn't even try to go massively huge.

Hello,I heard a few teenagers who can help me dvelope a game. I am a teenager myself, so I don't have a lot of money. I can pay you, but, not much. I have a briliant idea that I want to come true, so I am about to create a game. So guys, who can help me for free or for a 20 - 30 dollars, please, reach out to me. Thank you. You can email me at mangirdasklusai...@gmail.com.
