Re: Has anyone used tour?

Actually getting into real illegal stuff is doable on Tor, for sure, but also rather difficult to do, so you are probably safe enough.I don't even mean you need to find it first, I'd say if one really wants to do that they can, but a lot of the onions that present forums, markets, info sources that are darknet-only require some kind of captcha or DDOS protection to circumvent, which as a blind explorer is borderline impossible to do without sighted help. I'm talking clicking the right colored boxes, or other very graphical ways of proving you are human. So yeah ...it is exceedingly difficult to stumble into something you genuinely shouldn't be looking at. It is, however, easy enough to get scammed, so don't go messing around on so-called hidden wikis or anything of  the sort.

I agree, there's nothing wrong with privacy and avoiding censorship. I was thinking about the other nefarious activities such as drug deals, selling financial information, etc. I suppose it depends on the activities you choose to partake in. As with everything else, it's not the technology that's bad, it's the intentions and the people behind it.

Privacy is not sketchy. Censorship circumvention is not sketchy. But you do you, in truth the average privacy unconcerned, uninterested and paranoia-free person has little business here anyway. As I said above it's simply unregulated.Linux can provide enhanced security, but only if you know why and how to make it so (see the tails operating system, their wiki is good too). The tor-project wouldn't build and distribute the Tor Browser for windows if it wasn't secure. The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) wouldn't advocate for it's use if it wasn't secure. Thousands wouldn't call it a literal lifeline, if it wasn't secure. You're fine.

Re: Has anyone used tour?

By itself and in theory, Tor is safe.In practice this isn't always the case. A number of things can leak information without your knowledge.Get the Tor Browser from the official tor-project site, optionally verifying with a public signature. Routing your whole system through the network is brimming with fuckups just waiting to happen.Keep the default settings set the way they are. Not only does changing these present a potential security risk, it gives you a fingerprint that makes your traffic stand out. To get an idea, try the EFFs panopticlick.Tor Browser alone does it's best to ensure a default configuration with your interests at heart, but it won't protect against stupid mistakes and disclosure of personally identifiable information. It won't protect against you logging into a clearnet site that knows your RL email address, name and mom. if you log into anything even remotely linking back to you, best consider that session compromised.Unless you have personally audited the code for and implicitly trust a plugin, don't add it. Even then it's easy to overlook something, so just don't.keep _javascript_ disabled at all times. Remember that it's trivial to set up a traffic-sniffing Tor exit node, so leave no stone unturned in the encryption department.Contrary to misinformation floating around, using a VPN (especially public ones) on top of Tor doesn't necessarily make you safer and can in some instances offer more harm than good.If any of what I'm saying doesn't make sense, especially the part about an exit node, you have research to do. Minimally a rough understanding of how Tor works internally past it keeps me safe which is cool. I can't stress this enough. If any of those creepypasta stories were to come true, it would be the fault of the PEBCAC. That saying about knowledge being power couldn't be more on point here. You have a world's worth of knowledge at your fingertips, a fascinating subject and the resources to explore it. Run away.

I would  Recommend SOme Ordinary Gamers as a YOutube channel for if you want to look at accessing the Deep Web/Darknet. He does explorations of it, and he is quite serious and not clickbate at all when it comes to his videos showcasing the Deep Web. He deals  with computers as his actual job and to me, he is the best source for finding actual good ways of accessing the hiden part  of the Internet in a safe and fun way.

Re: Has anyone used tour?

Hi.Firstly, the thing is called tor, and secondly what you are refering to is the darknet, not the deep web, the deep web is the part of the clear web that crawlers can't access, for example, your personal data when logging into online banking, that stuff is called deep web.tor is basically a modified firefox browser, so access wise there are no problems.Do some research before looking around though, and by research I don't mean clickbate youtube videos or strange storys, there are criminal things going on, but see for your self.Greetings Moritz.

Re: Has anyone used tour?

First, it's Tor, not tour.Second, Tor isn't the gateway to the wild wild west fraught with red rooms and hit sights that youtube and creepypasta claim it is, much to the solace of the uninformed like my 12 year-old self.In fact, the vast majority of the sites you'll come across are activism and security related. A number of clearnet sites actively share their mirrors for those folks or just anyone concerned with protecting their anonymity. That is what holds everyone together, after all.Not to say nothing illegal happens there... It does. And if you're wanting to find it you will, but you're talking about a small subset really. Saying the onion router is filled with creepypasta like situations is kinda saying the internet is a hotbed for sex and pornography. If you want to read content from individuals living under oppressive regimes sharing their stories, have at it. If you want a history lesson, have at it. If you want to be blown away with radical opinions, have at it.If the darknet can be said to have anything in high quantities it's diversity, and for good reason.Which brings me to my next point. The same mentality that says no one knows who you really are presents the classic moral what you do when no one is watching question. Combine with diversity and you get blotches of serious extremism. Take everything you see with a grain of salt. Please do your research beforehand. There is plenty of misinformation to be found about the darknet, mostly because people realized they could get cheap clicks and subscriptions that way.Good luck!

Re: Has anyone used tour?

I don't have any experience with it, but from what I know it isn't really worth it. The idea of the deep web has gained a really strange reputation, and I suppose a lot of creepypastas have something to do with it. The bottom line is that a lot of people try out something like tor only to be disappointed by the lack of interesting things. Anything you'd stumble across would either be a bitcoin related scam or something set up by law enforcement to catch people looking to make shady purchases. The horror stories aren't entirely fiction, but most of them are. Tor is mainly used in all seriousness by those living in countries with intense internet censorship.
