The 8-bit sound, and the blend of 8-bit and guitar in the music is a stylistic choice by the developers, because Scott Pilgrim is originally a comic series that revolves around classic videogame culture. Not suture its still there, but netflix has the movie that came out alongside the game, and its also audio described. There are occasional edges, but you only lose a bit of health for falling off, and the characters will level up permanently over time to give you an edge in combat.
