Re: What is the worst computer you've ever had

I actually hope that I can still remodel that lenovo computer I was talking about earlier, this thing isn't that old after all.But before I give that thing a major technical overhall, this thing needs to be repaired. The hardware doesnt look ver'y good anymore, if you pull at one corner of the keyboard, you could pull the whole thing out of the ccase, not that good. Also, something is clearly wrong with the cooler or the air intake, but honestly I don't know what's the problem down there. In adition, the hinges of the moniter also look like they need to be refidded.Wehn all of this is complete, I thought of putting in new ram chips, and possibly a new 250 GB SSD as a main drive and use the current 1tb harddrive as thondary drive, as some laptops have it.But well, I will see if this is actually not to pricy, because if so, maybe a new laptop or convertible is an option, I thought of the Microsoft surface 4 or the new Asus Zenbook
s, they are quite good and look stylish.Greetings Moritz.

I guess I can also mention, while we are at it, another computer, a desktop which was fortunately not mine. I only got to use it once, but I will probably never forget it. It was also at school and I don't remember for which reason I had to use it. Can't remember the specs, but it was very old (it had no Windows key), very loud, and it had a Jaws demo that would only work for six minutes, not even 40. After that you'd have to restart it, except the thing was so slow that it took a complete 5 minutes to start if not more. It was on Windows 98 and, well, that was already to much for it.

Re: What is the worst computer you've ever had

hi.my worst computer was a 512 ram 1.5 single core processor running windows 95, the computer was so loud, you could hear every small crackle when it was working. it was around 2002 2003, back then I didn't know about screen readers so the only thing that I was able to do was play a game called tarzan. My brother got that game from somewhere and when I tried I found out by my surprise that I could play it. it was some kind of sidescroller but without stereo. I played that game so much that I learned the layout of almost each level, unfortunately there were 2 or 3 levels that were inaccessible. it had 9 or 10 stages and I would just go into stage selection menu and play each stage individually, I still remember the feeling that I had when I beat the last stage for the first time, it was awesome. It was the hardest boss that I've had to fight it literally took me like one year to beat it. I don't know if that game is still around but I would really like to try i
t again just for the sake of the old times.

@6 School policies can be annoyingly restrictive. When I was at a school last year, they had, for some ridiculous reason, set a group policy setting to disable access to all Windows key shortcuts. Fortunately I'm not in that school anymore, however, when I was, I couldn't even access email, and the IT department was trying to fight to get the POP and SMTP ports for email unblocked. Apparently, they only managed network configuration on their network, and certain firewall settings could only be controled by the county.

Re: What is the worst computer you've ever had

The worst computer I ever had was a Dell desktop running Windows XP, 74 GB of storage and 1 GB RAM. It all started back in 6th grade. The computer was the best one I had back then, and did everything I wanted to do like a charm, and I had many good times with it. It wasn't until the day Windows XP was discontinued that I realized that I needed a new one, but that wasn't the day that things started to get worse. In the middle of May or June of 2015 when I was in 11th grade that the power went out at home, and when it came back on a few hours later, my computer didn't have Wi-Fi at all, where as my other devices did. I had to put up with this all through the rest of 2015, in addition to constant slowdowns and blue screens until Christmas day when I got a new HP computer with 4 GB Ram and 500 GB of storage, of which I still use. As for that other computer, well we sold it somewheres, can't remember where.

Re: What is the worst computer you've ever had

The worst computer I've ever had was an HP 655 notebook which I bought in 2012 when I started high school. It had 2 GB of RAM, 1.4 AMD duel core processor, and 320 GB hard drive. I bought it mostly as an emergency rather than a preference. The design was nearly perfect, with a very pleasant keyboard to which I felt very accustomed and comfortable. The microphone was really nice, aside that it was not stereo, but it did fairly well in recording lectures or anything I needed. The plastic material was and is still strong and I doubt it has any scratches on it. Also, in these four years I've had it, it has had absolutely no technical issues, however, when I started university, I began to have to do with large books which exceeded 500 pages, though most of them would be 170 to 250 pages, anyway the computer would freeze or would be slow in many occasions, especially when I would need to work with tables. And so, one day, when I had a minitest in English morphology, the disast
er would reach its culmination, because the minitest was filled with 25 tables pertaining to 25 questions respectively, and JAWS would take 3 to 5 seconds to read a column. That day I felt very exhausted and disgusted because I was unable to finish the test due to my computer's slowness and freezes. That test resulted in me taking a lower grade then I would merit and that really got on my nerves so badly. On another test, JAWS would stop reading in a certain line of document, and the only way to restore it to normal was to close the document and reopen it again. Finally, the holidays came, and I began to think about another Laptop. On the end of June, I bought an HP notebook 15 with 8 GB of RAM, 2.2 to 2.7 GHZ intel core I5 fifth generation, and 1 TB hard drive. This computer is solid, steady, and I can finally read pleasurely word documents which exceed 500 pages. Even NVDA now performs really well in Microsoft word and general use. The CPU stays at 3% most of the time, and wi
th some efforts I could manage to increase it to 61% by converting a book to microsoft word using ABBYY fine reader, Kurzweil 1000, and open book simultaneously. Still the computer would run smoothly.

The worst computer I had to use was also from DELL, my school gave me this laptop back in 2005 or 2006, I don't exactly remember. Well, it wasn't even that bad except for the battery instantly dying less then 2 years after I got it, and the plastic not being very solid.Actually, the absolute worst I came to use is a Sony netbook I got in 2010, I got it so I didn't have to transport my heavy Toshiba Satellite P300 at school. But, well, it was a netbook anyway, and I think it wasn't that bad, even though the plastic felt really, really cheep. But I wasn't accomodated to such slow computers, and a bit more then a year after, I began to use my P300 at school no matter what. A bit after, I gave my netbook to my brother but the screen detached itself at some point, I don't know if it was because of bad material or my brother being a bit to brutal lol.My Toshiba Satellite P300 still works 8 years after I got it, and is probably the coolest laptop
I had, quite big and heavy but with cool design and very good speakers, especially by laptop standards. I got a more recent one a bit less then a year ago, but I still use it from time to time.

The worst computer I had to use was also from DELL, my school gave me this one back in 2005 or 2006, I don't exactly remember. A bit after, I gave my netbook to my brother but the screen detached itself at some point, I don't know if it was because of bad material or my brother being a bit to brutal lol.My Toshiba Satellite P300 stil works 8 years after I got it, and is probably the coolest laptop I h
ad, quite big and heavy but with cool design and very good speakers, especially by labtop standards. I got a more recent one a bit less then a year ago, but I still use it from time to time.

Re: What is the worst computer you've ever had

Ah yes, my very first computer...The school district purchased an HP Netbook, one of those little dinky 11-inch (if that) machines that rivaled maybe a tablet in terms of processing power.  It was loaded with JAWS 12 at the time (2009-2010) and Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.  What a hunk of junk!  Had I been aware of how crappy that was going to be, I would've saved up money and bought something worth while on my own.Eventually, I wrecked that computer so bad the IT department had to replace the OS on it multiple times.  Of course, it was from me screwing around with things I shouldn't have, but the point is that the machine itself was a disgusting disgrace outside of my tampering with it.I think it had maybe 2GB of RAM and was most certainly no more than a 1.6GHZ dual core processor, probably an I3.  THe hinges on the display broke and eventually I gave it back to the school because it was just God-awful.Best,L

Re: What is the worst computer you've ever had

That is horrible! I went through that kind of situation with a crappy school computer. They gave me an Hp Elite Book running Windows XP and Jaws 11. The machine itself was kind of cool, but it had this annoying touch bar on the top of the keyboard above the function keys that I would bump. I found out about 2 years later that the issues with wireless and seemingly random volume changes and muting were caused by my wrists and fingers accidentally touching the touch thing. I guess it's some kind of touch strip that changes things like wireless and volume. FOrtunately, I ditched that computer in favor of my current MacBook Air. Of course, the school wouldn't buy me a Mac, so my parents got me one for CHristmas in late 2013. I've been using the Mac since that point. I've had no issues using it for school related tasks. FOrtunately, I am now done with school and have no plans of undertaking any ridiculous academic task like writing pointless essays again unless I ha
ve a very good reason to do so.I also used this old piece of garbage Dell computer running WIndows XP. The computer was heavy and the battery stopped working after about 1 month. The thing would also get extremely hot and lock up. I'm guessing that was a safety feature to prevent the components from getting damaged. Maybe Windows laptops have changed, but I'd rather not buy another machine from HP or Dell again. Then again, these were probably made in 2007 or so.

Re: What is the worst computer you've ever had

The computer in my elementary school was a middle-tower desktop with Windows me installed. It was very noisy while running, and freezed whenever I tried to press ctrl+s to save what I wrote. Not only that, it had bugged IE and an unreadable background application which popped up annoying windows periodicly.

Re: What is the worst computer you've ever had

While it's not technically a computer I've owned, the worst computer I had the displeasure of using was an old XP laptop I used in high school. I had better computers at home, but while I was at school I had to use their stuff. For various reasons, the computer was just awful. Firstly, installed on it was whatever security/account management facility the school was depending on, I think it was something by Novell but I can't recall anything too specific. That in it of itself wasn't a huge problem, but one year they upgraded everything and made policies more strict. I could not open word documents or executable programs. Although, I could launch Word, go to the open dialog, select all files from the file type list, right click a file and press the open option to run it. Don't ask me why but it's how I launched half of the installers for stuff I needed, like book readers and other such things for school. Even that wasn't a huge issue because the co
mputer was still working fine, but then it began blue screening constantly. If I was unlucky, it'd blue screen right in the middle of a tech lesson, and the teacher would get pissed at it. One morning it acted up several times, and on the fourth time, he almost cursed at it and instead thumped his hand on the table. He's a bigger guy too so the noise was somewhat loud. If it hadn't been frustrating, it would've been very amusing.  If I was even more unlucky, it would blue screen in the middle of a study hall and I would lose my work, which only happened once before I wised up and learned how little I could depend on it. As time passed, it blue screened more and more. By the time I officially stopped using it, it would do it every 10 or 15 minutes. It especially didn't like being suddenly moved or tilted, but it would also do it, it seemed, all by itself. Even when plugged into the wall. And of course when it blue screened it would just shut down s
uddenly so I'd have to wait and hope the system would boot so we could read the event viewer and see what was up. It was always some physical dump error. If memory serves, we sent it back for repairs several months before I graduated, and when it came back, I no longer had a need for it as I had gone on well without it. The plan was for me to leave it behind so that hopefully someone else could use it, and prey that it didn't act up for them the ways it did for me.Turns out my plan to just leave it was taken quite literally. One of my vision support teachers, who is still a friend of mine, called me a few months ago to ask me if I could remember my old log-in. Apparently when it was repaired, whatever suite they were using was still installed. Nobody had bothered to touch or reformat it because they wanted to keep Jaws and some of my other school software around, just in case someone would need it. As it turned out, someone else needed Jaws and my old computer
conveniently had Jaws installed on it. Their logic was, if they could retrieve my old log-in from me, they could get in, update Jaws which I think was running off a school license, assess the other software installed on it, and be home free. It didn't work that way because firstly, I couldn't remember my log-in exactly, and secondly, I knew from experience that if you got it wrong three or so times, you'd be locked out and have to, at a bare minimum, wait like 45 minutes to try again. At one point when the system was acting up, we had to call in the IT department to reset everything. That was not a viable option in this case as they were transferring the computer to another school and wanted to kill whatever crap my school had installed on it. Reformatting the darn thing would've been easier imho. But they didn't want to do that, because the person using Jaws supposedly "only knew how to use Jaws, not NVDA." To a point they're right actually,
there are things you don't learn about a computer until you switch to NVDA full time as I did 18 months ago. But keeping a crappy computer around just to preserve a Jaws license is imho pretty desperate these days. I'll never go back to those times of my life again, I like being independent with choosing what I will run and what kind of computers I will run it on.

Re: What is the worst computer you've ever had

Hi.Well, my first computer was an old medion junk pile from 2002 I guess which I had to get for school to atach my elotype typewriter to print out the worksheets and stuff in braille, it had a 512 MB ram chip and I think single core 1.5 ghz processor.I seriously liked the samsung laptop that I had after that one, sadly it died due to some unknown reason.I than had an asus netbook which I still use when I have to get around, shure, it's slow and stuff, but for word processing it still works fine.My lenovo laptop was actually the one I hated the most, I think it was the thinkpad e535. I bgot it as a gift in 2012 and since than it always needed to be resetted at leased ones a year, the hardware was made out of plastic and fell apart, the cooling system didnt work, and tit was horrible to work with, Thanks to asus briliant computing skills, I have the new asus g752 VS standing here, rocks the desk and everything works as it should.Greetings Moritz.

Re: What is the worst computer you've ever had

Well I grew up in the 90's and early 2000s so tech wasn't always where it is today, so I can't fault my first 2 computers, a 286, and a packard bell 486. The next computer I hated, it was a Compaq Pressario 7 something. It has the AMD K-6-2 processor which locked up all the time and wouldn't let me play games for more than say a half hour before it locked up the entire system, it was a slow junk heap.

We (my family) once had an old eMachines computer running Windows ME. It was horrible. It had to be reset to factory defaults at least once a year, if not more. Installing Windows Updates would permanently slow it down to a crawl. Just ... Aweful. It had 256MB of RAM. I don't remember what kind of HDD capacity it had.
