I think I gave you a clue why. And I think I also identified
specifically where in the TP corners were cut.
If you connect the dots, the answer should be obvious.
If you are using either as a digital head end, the TP is a bit better in
that role than the Touch. But both are very good.
The TP is a superior implementation than the Touch going through to the
output stage. So in some respects, the Touch is more responsive to an
outboard DAC than a TP is.
I have and use both. Both are good. XLD iis not always as good at tag
preservation as dbpoweramp is, especially during format conversions.
With XLD, I find myself having to use Kid3 more often to clean up tags.
Thats why I recommend dbpoweramp first. As always, you get what you
pay for.
Late to this thread, but any audio streaming breakdown here is more
likely caused by a networking infrastructure deficiency as opposed to a
storage device or server problem, provided the NAS is not being asked to
work like a 12-core Xeon server.
Digital audio, even at high definition bitrates,
If you buy from HDTracks, it is worth the money to buy DBPoweramp.
Everytime my Transporter chokes on a 24-bit stream, it is one from
HDTracks. Incompatible FLAC format and/or compression rate. Re-encode
it through DBPoweramp and problem solved.
It will also downsample a 192 khz purchase down
My experience is it depends on the original master recording and the
competency of the remastering engineer.
I've suffered through some 'high-res' releases that sounded worse than
the 25 year old Redbook pressing of it.
This can be even more pronounced with older masters where no care is
taken.
jitter concerns should be a non-issue today in a well-designed
instrument.

lack of measureability doesn't mean a lack of difference.
Of course, all of this is separate from the changes that may occur from
warm up, either thermally or electronically, with various components.

a well executed FET design.
Never. Does that mean that the TP should sound worse? Not
necessarily, as it is the complete package that always counts. If the
TP's front end is strong enough to compensate for its downstream bits,
who knows.

all listening to the modulation of a chain

Still, for the guy walking into it with $2,000 and no other
pre-existing digital front end, the TP alone looks like money well
spent.

I've heard so far from it, a more robust supply to the outputs and
better Op-amps may help it. I may throw it up against our modded
Marantz CD67-SE over the holidays if time permits.

instrument from the $3,000 one. I don't
intend to highly modify a $300 box (it becomes academic in my case, as I
will be partnering mine to a higher end DAC). But I'm guessing that a
few dollars spent on the back end might bring the biggest overall
improvements for someone on a budget.
