Actually, I do feel like I'm ahead of old analog (e.g. tape). I just
use the ANALOG outputs of my digital Squeezebox. I tested all the
Squeezebox outputs going into the same high-end digital amp. I found
the analog outputs to sound better than the digital ones. I'd like to
see what the analog
Are there any sonic tweaks for the SlimServer or Squeezebox to get it to
sound better? I did an A/B comparison between my modded Sony CD player
and my Bolder modified digital only Squeezebox with the Welborne Labs
power supply. When used as a transport playing the exact same digital
files (EAC
Make sure you have unchecked the option in slimserver that allows
converting flac to mp3 for streaming.
That one possible reason for the difference.
If your DAC doesn't have a jitter reducing mechanism that could account
for the difference.
Finally, try comparing blind and see if you still

The only boxes that are checked are the ones below...

FLAC WAV flac
Try unchecking the first one, so that Slimserver does the FLAC-WAV
decoding

I think you need to have the 47 Labs DAC modded...
Which version of flac did you use when you ripped?

Are both of those a joke, or just the first bit?
Marley3; Could the Sony be sending a 16 bit signal that the 47 Labs
likes better than Squeezebox's, which
The digital out volume was not set to fixed and the replay gain was not
disabled... I'll change those and try another critical listening
session.
My modded Sony has an Audiocom Superclock 4 jitter reduction device
installed, so that may be making the difference. The Monarchy Audio
DIP may even

A good musical sounding DAC is indispensable. I'm convinced the 1:1
digital pulse transformers and BNC connectors made a difference on my
Super Squeezebox and DAC. However, the overall sonic signature is
mainly the result of the DAC's circuitry.

Yes, absolutely!
The analog circuit can make or break a design, IMO. The Lite Audio
DAC60 I owned had absolutely top notch DACs and associated chips (BB
1704) but I felt the output stage was a tad forward in the midrange.
Not the most transparent.
My current DAC, OTOH, has the older PCM63 chips

difference... Also, try what Phil suggested if
