Great list thanks. I don't want to spend crazy amounts, unless they come
with a 110/240V switch!
I would suggest a used Bryston 2BLP. Small form factor, built like a
tank (20 year warranty)and sounds great. Pick one up on audiogon for
$400-800 dollars.

I'd like to put in a plug for Emotiva amps.

They are an up and coming designer manufacturer who designs in
Nashville and manufacturers in China. The value to cost ratio is off the
charts. Any one looking for a great amp at low cost would be remiss in
not auditioning

I could recommend Mark Levinson, Lamm, Herron Audio, but these can get
pricey.
Simaudio is good (that is what I am running), if you are willing to go
Canadian.
Not huge, it depends if my Rega amp works, if it does then I'll just
spend $500 to

I think it's great that while you're in the US you want to give some US

some US-made units you might check out:

Thanks, plenty to look at there. I wouldn't go for a valve amp, a good
solid amp for driving a couple of smallish floorstanders.

There are so many good ones I can't list them all. Also, there is no
reason you can't stick with the British brands you like. They do have
dealers in the US.
Check out AudiogoN for used equipment:

If you are curious about T-Amps, be sure to check out Virtue Audio.

Yes but when in Rome.
I'm moving from Europe to the US, so I need to replace my amps for my
squeezeboxes, I have an old Creek amp and a Rega amp (actually this amp
may work, I'll see when I get there), both are British made and give
great sound.
Obviously I can keep my existing speakers. Are there similar audiophile
Check the back of your units: they may have switchable power supplies
(50/60Hz; 120/240V) and all you need do is replace the power cord if
it's detachable or use an adapter.
Contact the companies. Maybe you can ship the units in and they will
refit them for US power requirements and ship them
Sometimes it's only the connections of the main transformers windings
that differs. Contact creek and rega about it.
It is not unusual to use two 115v windings that could work either in
parallel or series depending on market, not so often in large power amps
but not unusual in pre amps cds or
Thanks. I think the Rega will work, it says 110/240 on the back, but
until I try it. I contacted Creek and they said I would need to replace
the PSU, which is a bit much for 17 year old amp. I'll keep it in case
we ever came home.
I was really asking what are the good audiophile amps you can get

I have found Creek. There must be some US manufacturers of quality

There are a ton of high end amps over here to chose from and some very
good MidFi stuff also.
What are you looking for as in what sound do you like/prefer? Values,
Solid State, or Hybrid?
Just a few of each:
Values/Tubes: Cary, Conrad Johnson, VTL, Audio Research, Manley,
McIntosh, Quicksilver
Roland?

It depends on what you are looking for but for my money the class T amps
are the best bang for the buck. I have the Winsome Labs Mouse and I'm
fixing to biwire\bimap them.
I have the maggies MMG's - modded - The T sound is awesome. At 45 WPC
its not bad. 90 is better - so I'm going to rewire

Yes Rowland! Jeff has designed and produced some of the best solid
state amps available. When I owned Apogee Acoustic speakers, a pair of
Jeff Rowland Design Model 7 mono blocks put an amazing 1200 watts into
those speakers.
