This is a really interesting thread. For the Sox illiterate, how easy
would it be to apply and test these filters on-the-fly within
SqueezeCenter?

Thanks Phil/Micheal. I'll have a play tonight.
Since sox is currently used to downsample hi-rez files for 24/94
incapable players there must be a way of flagging file handling on a per
player basis.

extremely gratful for suggestions (or the code) from the programmers out
there as to how best to implement this? Pretty please.

Yes, flac of highly varaibale levels of compression which suggest that
something is wrong.

not sure I can give a considered opinion yet. First impression was
that it sounded a bit harsher than the 16/44 control. There is
definately something wrong with the encoding however!

Have you tried applying the filter outside of SC using a batch file
similar to that used in Post 14? I'm interested to know if you get a
constant file size in the output for a given input file?

Thanks Michael. Could you please post the code you used for the batch
file? Are you converting wav to flac or flac to flac?
MS

Sorry, I didn't express myself very well. Where I want to get to is to
adapt your filter from Post 79 for converting flac to flac. I want to
do this via batch file so I can do A/B tests.

Those older posts are no longer accurate as 24/96 material is now
properly downsampled in SqueezeCenter for the SB3 by a Sox application.

Thanks for all the advice - I think I'm making progress on this one
after discovering a few irregularities in the story being offered by my

You've got me worried now. I thought QC would be good enough on this
sort of product to make the chances of getting two defective units vary
rare.

Well, I finally got a functioning Transporter and it performing really
well. The analogue output into my headphone amp is the biggest
improvement over my SB3.

I think you have been misinformed. WiFi is not limited

to 16/44.1)

Can't see it as a Transporter upgrade - such (apodising) filters require
a not insignificant amount of processing power.
There's a related, recent thread covering apodising flters on the
PerfectWave DACs several threads below

OK, two versions: a player with a high-end DAC and a transport without
the DAC. I'd go for the latter as I could't do without the room
correction on my pre-amp.

So, you have to re-arrange the furniture for the Transporter to sound
better than the SB3!
Sorry, but this sounds like a load of audiophile b*ks to me!

Well, for those who wish to try it, there should be available material
shortly.I remain open minded about the format but if it encourges
better audio mastering practices that has to be a bonus.
