I may sound like the FP, but I'm really glad that I don't feel the
need to fly like that (any more) and hope nobody does close passes as
in this video near me or my glider!
I guess there's a technical point to this,
The longest ridge I know is the one which goes from somewhere near
Ceduna across the Nullabor plain. The ridge goes for hundreds of kms
until it moves away from the road.
I think it's been soared by hang gliders.

You can either soar the Barossa range which a 2000 foot aerotow will
easily reach (and there's a good airstrip at Rowland Flat right at
the bottom of the hill) or turn left
Also in SA is the Chase Range (31d 41.357' S 158d 39.110' E) near
Hawker/Wilpeena Pound - soarable for about 20k in a NWterly. Arkapena
airstrip is at 31d 40.458' S 138d 38.470'E, so it is less than 2 km to the
range! Have a look at this too on Google Earth.

The Grampians consist of three ranges running roughly
north-south. The western sides are generally less steep than the
eastern side so the eastern faces of the Mt Wiilliam Range and Mt
Difficult Range are the preferred ridges, requiring an an easterly

The old AUGC site (started up by Emilis) at Lochiel had a reliable
resident ridge that ran North South for about 8km. Mostly cleared, 45
deg upslope. Had sheep, kangaroos and occasional AUGC members (with
cameras) on it. Was easily reachable by winch. Worked well in a SW to NW

but according to Noel Lovell who claimed to have seen it, a black panther, that
was supposedly released into the wilds by US troops on RR leave.
