Al, I've seen many records where a priest was listed as a padrinho. Since both Manuel Lourenco Matias and Mariana de Jesus were born with *pai incognito*there may have been a lack of male relatives. Since a purpose of a padrinho is to direct spiritual growth, having a priest would ensure that.
