My great-grandfather was Joao Pedro Tavares. He was born in the village of Agua de Pau on the island of St. Michael, Azores on June 12,1873. His father's name was Jose Pedro Tavares. His mother's name was Elena Ignocencia do Coracao de Jesus. He had three brothers. Pedro Tavares, who resided in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, and Jose and Serafim Tavares who stayed in the Azores. He immigrated to Fall River, Massachusetts approximately in 1893. He married Maria Pereira, whom he met in Fall River. She was born in Warwick, Bermuda. They had 8 children, including my grandfather, Alfred Tavares, who died when my dad was 2 years old. The only info I have is mostly from obituaries, and Joao Pedro Tavares' baptismal record that I located in an old book in the library in St. Michael a few years ago. I had it translated, and I obtained a lot of information from this document. I grew up in Fall River, but never heard a thing about my relatives in Bridgewater. I'd appreciate any further information. Thanks! -- To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [email protected]. Follow the confirmation directions when they arrive.
